I'm sorry, I want to get things cleared up. This is NOT his "father". Can we get a ruling on this? His "father" is long dead. This is someone else. Correct? At least two people ive talked to have said "father" and I see no evidence of that.
this scene is perfection. i purchased the movie for this scene...i can watch it over and over without tiring of it...the dialogue is incredible so simple and poignant...the humor perfectly understated and dry...barry corbin is an amazingly underrated actor...and tommy lee jones, well his talent goes without saying
"After awhile, one of them said somethin' in indian". That's funny stuff. I could live out in that little shack, ride my bicycle to town and be just fine with all!
Great scene. I associate a lot of this with how I see things. Worlds changing awfully quick, and even the responsible younger ones can hardly keep up. Not to mention the dialogue between him and his father reminds me of me and mine, trying to borrow wise advice from a man worn hard by life's trials and tribulations. By far my favorite scene in the movie. Thanks for uploading.
Oh well damn. In all of the times I've watched this I never took notice of that. Thanks for pointing it out. It seems like he sees him as a semi-father figure though. Even if they may not be related in that way, he's obviously looking for advice from someone he finds to be much more wise than himself.
Ellis is Ed toms uncle. His fathers brother. He was a deputy under eds father.

All the time you spend getting back what's been took from you, more is going out the door. After awhile you just got to get a tourniquet on it.

I love how you can hear the wind howling the entire time they're talking. It's like the last frontier. Two old pokes meet over week-old coffee.

Great scene, but this not his father. He says "...Your daddy every tell you how Uncle Mack come to his reward?..."
