i found a glitch it was right befor the room that you had to put the dead body in the stream to open the door you can walk on the wall befor you inter the room and if you jump you will fall into darkness its pritty cool try it!

the same as me but mine is on another place where  the 2nd translator is,when i got the key to the 2nd gate ,and when i open the gate where i got the key ,theres no way out, i fell,but when i fell ,everything got black ,and i can see kratos , not yet dead, and when i'm using normal attack by jusy 2 or 5 times thats where i died

It is a glitch in your game, i tried it the other night both by holding on and tapping r1 and Kratos just falls off, he doesnt hang on

Try to Tap R1 very fast in the moment when you may press R1 to continue. Tap It and I think can be done =P
