its not purely mental or physical stress, its the addition to the fact that field training is not a do as your told program where you just "put up" with the yelling and make it through, the cadets are the ones actually leading the flight and are evaluated on their leadership abilities, problem solving, and teamwork. you can actually fail field training if you fail to prove that you have leadership potential. plus youre expected to know everything upon arrival and take the PFA on day 2
I want it to be as vigorous as possible so I can feel the heat and get prepared to work with people who are enlisted when the times come to be commissioned. I heard that the people in enlisted frequently disrespected ROTC commissioned officers.
@LastXdeth it doesn't really matter how you became commissioned when viewed by enlisted you will be judged by your actions. Enlisted simply don't care where you went to school to recieve your paper saying I went to school for 4 more years. I've seen many academy grads who are nothing but but self centered paper pushers and I've seen outstanding dedicated officers come from ROTC. Without knowing the officer the most repected ones are those who come from the enlisted ranks.
does everyone in AFROTC get sent to field training or does it depend on your major? i am currently a senior in high school and have applied for the scholarship. however, after watching videos like these, i am uncertain of how i would perform especially being female. does anyone have any tips or advice?
yes, I believe everyone wanting to become an officer through ROTC has to attend field training. The instructors will prepare you physically and mentally before and while you are at field training. I know the video looks intense, but when I filmed this video there were lots of women going through the program who did great. Hope this helps.
To become an officer you have to go to and graduate field training. However, just because you are in AFROTC does not guarantee that you are going to go to field training. You have to earn your spot based on grades, AFOQT score, Pt score, and various other categories.
