  • great song check out my band the eyes of isabel

  • I loved this song when it first came out, and it's still AWESOME!!!

  • Awesome song!!

  • Wow. Found this song by links! :Can you tell the future? don"t think so!

  • I have not been able to get this song out of my head for the last three days. So, I figured I would come to youtube & see if I could find it to get my fix. Thank You!

  • even take into account,1980 was a bitchin year for me,the song brings back a lot

of beautiful memories, a lot a lot, Thanks for posting it.

  • Fuggin' AWESOME!!! This is when pop music had soul. I hated this type of stuff in 1979 because it wasn't punk enough for me...what idiots teenagers can be.

  • @SanJoseEarthquakes74 at least you like this song now you have lived and learned something

  • this doesn't sound anything like Into the Valley...

  • @sola0997 Into the Valley was done by The Skids.

  • @sola0997 Into the Valley was done by The Skids.

  • Damn, I loved this song. I can't believe I found it.

  • fucking song stealers! this is into the valley by the skids!

  • @jamierourketen Don't see enough of a similarity myself, perhaps it's just a co-incidence? AC-DC's Anything Goes on the other hand...

  • @jamierourketen Completely different - and both great songs!

  • Love this tune need some dough to rerelease it

  • We just recorded our acoustic version of this great tune Check out iguitar1

    Love the dudes glasses

  • The video Concert Hall video is now on youtube. The Headboys - "The Shape Of Things To Come" 1979

  • One of the best songs ever. But the band is totally shocking, deadset dorks.

  • @glebe3047 oh yeah!

  • AC/DC - Anything Goes!! :D

  • It's been 30 years or so since I first heard this; I never get tired of it. Thanks for posting this one.

  • Fabulous song! I remember this being on TOTP, when I was just beginning to listen to pop music properly. This was one of the tunes which remained clearly in my mind, and I now appreciate why! Thanks for posting! :-)

  • Love this song, managed to get some HB's mp3's some years ago, never quite matched this though

  • Hi

    Blessings

    Andy

  • I saved very little vinyl but The Headboys is one I hung onto due to this song. We had a band here in Cincinnati, Dennis the Menace, that used to do a cover of this tune right after it came out. Their version was actually the first that I heard and then had to find the record.

  • RIP my uncle davie, who died suddenly today . Love you loads. One of the best drummers life could offer... Miss you dearly

  • @Golddustz11 Hi Golddustz

Sorry to impinge on your grief and the loss of your Uncle Davie, but is this the same Davy Ross who was drummer with The Headboys? Great drummer, great band, which deserved more recognition.

    My Condolences

  • @Golddustz11 agree, I had forgotten about this song but one night four weeks ago they played the video. I'm sorry to hear that, we have lost too many 70/80's musicians later.

  • Oh my God I have been searching for this song since I discovered youtube about four years ago. I heard it twice on the radio over thirty years ago. I thought it was a great song and was surprized when it didn't become a big hit. Way to go boys you hit it out of the park with this one. Peace.

  • @makingsense53 Like you - heard it on the radio rarely. Found a person who had it on an album in the early eighties and listened to it on a turntable and maybe once since then while back home in Illinois listening to the KSHE-95 classic show. Correct--should have been a hit. Better than anything at this year's Grammy's. The talent was not there and the music nauseating. Gotta like youtube.

  • Glad to say that it isn't that forgotten, saw a covers band doing this more than justice,in my local pub - really enjoyed it. looked them up & they're on you-tube as well, - 90% Proof Shape of Things to Come - if anyone else wants to have a listen.

  • 3 years I have been looking for this. 47 yrs old now, this was the song back then:)

  • brilliant song, a forgotten gem from late '79, glad to have found it here!! thanks for posting it

  • Love the song, but these guys are such damn dorks

  • Lauren, Since you asked, with the question mark I`ll let you in on the "not so obvious." Relationships like man woman? No. Try relationship - New World Order. Before anyone write that I am full of shit, do some research and then the lyrics make sense. Good day and good luck. When the album was released, they were "Headboy", NO "S" at the end.

  • Maybe the most forgotten song in history. Such a brilliant song. Never have I for got it.

  • That was a great album! (showing my age). I wish they would have lasted. Music sucks now :(

  • This is a brilliant song - forgot about it till recently, but isn't that line "play with your own life, but don't play with mine" just one of the best ever?! Pretty much sums up life and relationships, huh?

  • This song is one of the great lost classics. I am so very glad many agree here. I had not heard this song for aboyt 25 years. But many times I would think of it. Thanks to youtube I can watch it anytime I like. The first time I saw it after 25 years my eyes went watery.

  • The AC/DC album Black Ice (2008) contains a track called "Anything Goes" - it is totally ripping off this song! Give it a listen and see!

  • totally agree with the ac/dc comment, doubt if angus and co have ever heard this.

  • A great "lost " classic....love the keyboards in this...thanks for posting!

  • This popped up I had this song on 20 of a nother kind LP!

  • fantastic song!!!!!

  • LOVE THIS SONG IT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES OF WHEN I STAYED IN ST ANDREWS

  • This was just too cool; used to be on a pre-MTV music video program. This video, Gary Numan "Cars' and "Down in the Park', and others were just sooooo cool.

  • lekker nummerke

  • @amonduultje nog steeds best lekker om te horen

  • A truly stunning song from a fantastically talented band. The first LP is a classic piece of work littered with amazing killer songs, hope it gets a CD release one day soon. I saw the band live back in 1980 at the famous Marquee Club and bootlegged the show. Last year I found the tape and put it through wavelab and it sounded great, even got it touch with the band and sent them a copy. Check out their myspace site.

  • I used to have a casette of this. I hope I can find it on Amazon.com or some where else.

  • stunning find,thanks!

  • Brilliant!! 'Nuff said.

  • Brilliant!!!!!!!!! 'nuff said.

  • I heard this maybe twice on the late, lamented KJET in Seattle when I was about 13, and 20 years later I still remembered some of the lyrics. Took me years to find the band, (Do a search of 'The Shape Of Things To Come' on 15kbs dialup and you'll understand.) downloaded it, and luckily burned it before Kazaa bluescreened my computer. (Twice) *Easily* the best song that nobody's ever heard. Someone with radio connections has got to get this back on the air!

  • There were two clips to this song. The ohter one was of them out doors on a bardge from memory. Sheer classic song

  • If someone does a cover of this today its a hit forsure

  • Great song thanks for posting. About a year ago I copied the vinyl and the single B-sides and created a CD for myself. They did record another album I beleive, but the label never released it. Check out Myspace I think they have a site there.

  • I still have this vinyl. Lord ha'mercy, this is nostalgia at it's finest.

  • Fantastic, one hell of a flash back. There was only one weekly radio playing this one back then and there. Great memories. Thanks for the post, very much appreciated.

  • seems i am not alone in knowing of this band...had the album...why did i sell it for 50p at carboot...still live long on internet...'head what?' 'what boys'? 'the boy whats'?...'what heads the boy?'

  • 16 again for 3mins 34sec.

  • There's so many SHAPE songs, and this is the BEST EVER!!!! 1979 was a bitchin' year for me, and this song brings me back.

  • I thought I was the only person in the world who had heard of The Headboys. This is freakin awsum!!! The song and the vid, Cheers man!! ....scored the 45 from a mate in '82, havent stopped listening to it since.... brilliant!!!

  • @WestAucksNZ I used to listen to this on a show that pre-dates MTV; Video Concert Hall.I have loved this tune for years. Can't seem to turn the wife on to it...oh well, still and al, one great tune.

    Mathman59

  • @mathman59 I hear ya on that...mine just rolls her eyes each time i play it. Im sure the B side was "The mood Im in" or something close to it. 1st time ive seen the vid was 1 month ago, hence the excited comment...well worth the 28 year wait!!! A cover by a decent band would be interesting,......still,....it would have to be something special to top this..!!

  • @mathman59

I love Video Concert Hall. I was glued to the television every time it was on.

This song was my favorite back then and still is today.

  • Does anyone have a video or can upload the song Kickin The Kans by this band? I would love to hear it! Thanks!

  • into the valley rif ,good though. where were they from>

  • " You live in your dreams, I'll live in mine, maybe tomorrow we will collide", can't believe i've found this after all these years . Fantastic, thank you so much.

  • i cant believe this is on here, what a tune and what a band fucking brilliant, one of my favourite tunes off all time thanks for posting

  • hi

    Thanks For This, AWESOME.

  • Shameful confessions.... I wrote to Swap Shop when I was 13 and this came out. John Craven read my letter and they played this video (or maybe even had the band in the studio, I can't remember - it was pre-MTV).

Fantastic rock/pop song; very derivative, but in the best way rocks songs can be. Nothing's truly original anyway.

  • ..are you sure it wasn't Jimmy Saville you wrote to?? He's playing guitar on the left!!

    ...brill, by the way!!

  • The guitar for this new wave classic was more than a tip of the cap to Stuart Adamson of the Skids, the track being OF ONE SKIN, before he went on to form BIG COUNTRY, still love this song .

  • THE SKIDS

  • I am glad you have it heard it too. The ACDC track - and I love ACDC - is a rip off of the riff of this track. And 30 years later ha ha

  • Class great video 5*****

    Colin.

  • what the heck? this sounds too close to Anything Goes. I'm a huge AC/DC fan, but man...i'm speechless. maybe a fat coincidence?

  • i have just noticed the same thing!

  • Of course is a coincidence

  • I thought I was the only one who remembered video concert hall!!

  • Thank you for posting this! I loved this song so much, had it on "20 of Another Kind", lost the vinyl, and could not remember the name of the band. This, to me, is the summer of 1980.

  • God, I loved this record in 1980!

  • I was 15 years old and I went for the first concert in my life to the Paradiso theater in Amsterdam to see ths great band.

    Thanks for posting.

  • De Kreuners also play this song in dutch,it's called "wat komen moet dat komt" in 1996

  • I doubt it was intentional theft - but these guys might have a case. Better song than Anything Goes too.

  • Thank you for posting this. I can finally put faces with the music. Found my old 45 and just for giggles did a search on here! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

  • Good to see alot of people agree with me about ACDC taken off this riff on anthything goes, i think that the positive thing about the comparison is people hitting this song and hearing what agreat song it is, and the headboys should be proud of it, also this song should have huge pity the radio staions wouldnt play it here in australia.but anyway great song great riff and good keys.

  • Well seeing how it sounds similar and this is about 30 years older than it, I will say either they used it or they coincidentally came up with a similar one. Either way I will give them credit for it for coming up with a great tune, both songs are good in my opinion.

  • Brilliance often lies in its simplicity.

Haven't heard this song for a very, very long time. But it still manages to get me

    overexcited after all these years.

Nice to see this lot back in town again.

    Metaphorically speaking ofcourse...

  • saw these support john otway at cambridge corn exchange in 1979. got this one and steppin' stones on 45. music press of the time didn't care for them much but i always thought they were pretty good. released an album and then seemed to disappear, shame.

  • 29 years man...and sounds great

  • Been donkey's ears... fantastic!

  • I dont think AC/DC stole this riff. They just happened to come up with a similar riff.

Great song by the way. Never heard of this band before.

  • Brings back great memories - terrible song !!

  • Great video. Any chance you have 'Kickin' the Kans'?

  • Fantastic. I Have this on 45 but have never seen the band before. Thanks alot. Such a great track must have been hard to follow it up, although it wasn't a big hit in the UK and yes AC/DC have stolen the riff on their Black Ice track Anything Goes. Cheers.

  • wow this is so cool, seeing this video and listening to this song after such a long time. this was my first song on stage. long long long long ago

  • Cool video!

  • got this album when came out n still mint condition love this song :)

  • whats the bass player doiing with his nose at 0:21?

  • He's pointing at the camera, the angle just makes it look weird.

  • Jaysus...ur right...nice one...thats sorted that one out...thanks dude

  • they were on Top of the Pops in UK once 79-80 around that time

  • Thank you for sharing this video. I purchased the LP in 1979 while working in a record store in Cupertino, Ca. This song and group rocks.

    California, USA

  • Kickin The Kans!

  • Sorry...Video Concert Hall aired from 1979 to 1981 (not 1983.)

  • does anyone know where to get this album?...been searching for 30 years!! love the song "Experiments" from the same album!! can anyone help me find it??

  • Hey Dogfighter, i bought the LP for about 1 Dollar in poor condition some years from now. In the last years a saw some copies (german pressing) at german record fairs. The price range was between 2 and 5 Dollar. I'll keep my eyes open, if i see a cheap copy there. Shipping could be a forture for a 12inch record...By the way, has anyone heard the Track "Changing with the times" (Headboys - same LP) it's a killer!

  • i have this album playing right now!!!!!!love that song(changing with the times)how about(my favorite dj)kickin the kans,expriments,the ripper.whole album is good

  • All I can say is excellent. I remember this from a pre-MTV late night cable show called Video Concert Hall, anyone else? The song has stuck in my head since then. Thanks for posting.

  • You are correct! This appeared on Video Concert Hall during practically its entire run from 1979 to 1983. This, however, IS NOT the video that appeared on the show. I have been searching for this song for almost 30 years and can't believe that I found it!

    InCrowdKraut: THANKS FOR POSTING!

  • This album was one of the reasons I had to get my turntable back up and running (I did, and it works!) I remember that show and the (real) video on it. Was the guitar solo played from a pulpit or something? Or in an old castle or something?

  • My memory of the original video matches yours, the guitar solo was played in stone turret or whatever, like the corner of a castle. I still have the vinyl version of this. The them of the video had some vague crime element to it. The whole album is pretty decent and I really liked this song.

  • Agreed. The beginning of it had some car arriving at night, but the solo location I always thought was pretty cool. Oh man, it's been YEARS and YEARS!

    Cheers!

  • @dave32063 Yes, I do! Always loved this tune.

  • @dave32063

I thought I was the onlt one on the planet that remembered Video Concert Hall!

  • @dave32063

I thought I was the only one on the planet that remembered Video Concert Hall!

  • @Iisadave

I remember VCH quite well. I was working at Burger King and, after work, we'd all get together and swill beer and watch. Really good (and fond!) memories.

  • Found it! Heard this once years ago and never again. Why did I somehow think it had to do with Jefferson Starship? With something like YouTube in 1980, we could have put the guys into viral success in no time.

  • I have been looking for this song for an eternity.

  • I thought I had imagined seeing this on MTV. It is a relief to discover that it actully exists!

  • In South Florida, we had a cutting edge station called K-102 in the early 80's. It was kind of an early MTV type radio station. The owners sold their souls to Satan and converted it to oldies in 1984. Hmmm...this music would now qualify.

  • Thank you so much for putting this song. Haven't heard it in ages. It brings back beautiful memories.

  • the guys obviously hadn't heard the skids, "into the valley" then, lol!

i have fond memories of this track, whilst working in the motor tax office in dundee i remember one of the girls there was going out with a member of the band.

nearly 30 years ago now and this is the first time i have heard it since then. splendid!

  • I distinctly remember there being a different video played on MTV, conceptual instead of a performance video. Am I nuts?

  • Just brilliant, great post

  • The guitar on this is so like Stuart Adamson of Skids. The intro is just like Into The Valley.

  • simply love this one, so glad I've got the LP saved from the Eighties!!!!

  • 2:27

  • Thank you for posting this! I haven't heard this song in maybe 20 years, and this is the first time I've ever seen the video. YouTube rocks.

  • Wow. A great lost band. I'm looking for All the the way u also

  • I've been looking for this one for a while. Had the original vinyl of this album but lost it in a house fire in '89. Good to see the video again brings back some good memories...

  • we used to play this in a pub band great song and step stepping on the stepping stones.

  • That the Headboys were only a flash-in-the-pan was truly a sad thing. They were loaded with talent as this and other songs from this album demonstrated. Thanks for posting this; it brings back the good ol' days

  • Rare and great video. The A-side of the vynil was terrific, most of all this song. I´d like to get it on CD but it´s impossible. Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you i was looking for this forever were going to do it like this and experiment have it on vinyl and will never part with it thank you again

  • Terrific Track.I don't know why it hasn't been covered loads of times

  • Listen to AC/DC "Anything goes" from the Black Ice Album, those bastards stole the headboys Guitar Riffs and sang a whole lot of shit around it...

  • I have two versions of this, both by the same artist!

Marian Gold did a partial version of it in his '92 solo album, SO LONG CELESTE, but there's a full version in his limited Alphaville box set, DREAMSCAPES.

  • ditto mathman59

  • geweldig nummer

ik heb de lp nog steeds

  • I first heard this played by a band on the Isle of Wight called The Choir so I just had to buy the original. Most Excellent!

  • Where the F*** did you find this??? I have been looking for this for years! Great post!

  • I second that

  • I loved The Headboys!!

    Thanks for posting this video.
