If you are still looking for ways to attach it firmly, look out for a suction tripod mount for cars. This works great or surfboards, can be found cheap on ebay and they all have a universal tripod mount. Nice try though!!!

I been wondering about a good way to attach fishing line to part of the camera and mouting surface (or for what im doing, attached to the Helmet visor bolt), to ensure you can never loose it. But thats for motorsports. Wouldn't know how you'd do that to a surf board. But glad it didn't just dissapear on you! The ocean has ways of doing that ;) .
