Even if you ar einsured, you still have to pay up front to see the doctor !
I think Bill makes an interesting point, however, Healthcare is something on which is essential. You can't let someone die of cancer for the simple reason he did not work hard enough. And wealth comes from a good wage which comes from a good job. A good job comes from hard work, yes, but also your network, and luck (I know it's a cliché but it's also a fact). My point is, I don't think these pillars are hard enough to support healthcare.

As other have said people may be working hard and trying to stay healthy but are still not able to affordd it. I believe the health care reform had alot to do with altering the health insurance companies which would help to keeping them from making it less affordable to people and make them actually do what they are ment to do instead of focusing on profits.

A lot of the debate comes down to what role you want the government playing, and most people in America want it playing a small role. So if they can oversee the health care industry and force them to lower prices drastically, if that is actually realistic, more people are going to want that than universal coverage. Who knows if it is or not.

A Canadian making 36k is taxed only 15% federal and approximately 10% provincial(depending on province). That's only 31.73% tax. The tax rate on the same income in America is 25% federally +5-10% State. Some states have no state income tax though. US federal taxes also go up to 35%, while Canada's top tax rate is 29% federal. That's not 29% on ALL your earnings, either.
And if your taxes are that high (48%), you're probably earning over 100k. are single, without children and living in Quebec. Or you have a horrible, horrible accountant.
And the average Canadian household earns more than the average American household and pays less taxes and receives more services.

If you wind up with a nasty huge bill, if you talk to the hospital and ask for help, they can apply donations they've received to waive your bill. Bill says some interesting things, the US hasn't got enough money to provide healthcare for it's tax payers but it has enough money to bomb the crap out other countries, odd. In temr sof sharing th eburden of healthcare, the USA has the MOST expensive healthcare system in the world, 70% of people made bankrupt, are due to healthcare bills, 15% of Americans have no coverage, an unknown % are underinsured. Even if you ar einsured, you still have to pay up front to see the doctor !

I think Bill makes an interesting point, however, Healthcare is something on which is essential. You can't let someone die of cancer for the simple reason he did not work hard enough. And wealth comes from a good wage which comes from a good job. A good job comes from hard work, yes, but also your network, and luck (I know it's a cliché but it's also a fact). My point is, I don't think these pillars are hard enough to support healthcare.

Sorry Bill but your right to good food argument is nonsense as that opportunity exists for all, that is a human choice as is smoking, as is drinking. The argument should be about whether people who abuse their bodies have a right to liver transplants etc. Having an accident and not getting treatment is cold and disgusting and many people would have lost loved ones had they not had access to services. Socialism promotes society, Regan and Thatcher destroyed it. Hard work isn't the only answer.

As other have said people may be working hard and trying to stay healthy but are still not able to affordd it. I believe the health care reform had alot to do with altering the health insurance companies which would help to keeping them from making it less affordable to people and make them actually do what they are ment to do instead of focusing on profits.

A lot of the debate comes down to what role you want the government playing, and most people in America want it playing a small role. So if they can oversee the health care industry and force them to lower prices drastically, if that is actually realistic, more people are going to want that than universal coverage. Who knows if it is or not.

@joe80dmanizanerd Well I think the connection to Cuba is that seizing land is currently the only way the government can provide certain universal services. I totally agree with you that as long as we have this little money it's going to be hard to justify any of these programs. Maybe down the road.
And the U.S. economy is still the most productive in the world, it is not near the top overall though because although we make more, we spend a lot more than other countries.

@CaptainPriceLives The EU has a gdp of 17 trillion, the US has a gdp of about 14.4 trillion. China is following with about 7 trillion (which is increasing with a enormous13% /year).
Especially countries in the EU are rather socialistic. They have higher taxes and spend alot more on decent infrastructrure, healthcare etc.
Just an example is the fact that I go to a world top 30 business university for 1600 euro's /year. If I lived in the US i'd have to pay over 50k/year. Which is plain unfair

For the 20 years after age 65 (When we all get sick) the government covers healthcare and it is going broke, but for the 40 year before age 65 (When we don't go to the doctor) we and our employers give money to insurance companies. This money should be set aside for when you get old! The insurance companies had to have laughed all the way to the bank when Medicare came in. @kingdiggz Taxes in Canada are lower typically lower than in America. 5% goes to CPP (up to $2,163). 1.73% goes to EI. A Canadian making 36k is taxed only 15% federal and approximately 10% provincial(depending on province). That's only 31.73% tax. The tax rate on the same income in America is 25% federally +5-10% State. Some states have no state income tax though. US federal taxes also go up to 35%, while Canada's top tax rate is 29% federal. That's not 29% on ALL your earnings, either.

If you wind up with a nasty huge bill, if you talk to the hospital and ask for help, they can apply donations they've received to waive your bill. My friend with testicular cancer did that, and his chemo and surgery bills were waived. Unfortunately, health care is a COMMODITY (Well, service, technically).

Its crazy how many people are ignorant of and entire section of the society that work multiple job without vacations and benefits, work a whole lot harder than you ever will to provide for their families, and they will never make it. Small town conservative values only seem to hold true in small town christiandom.

First of all, paying taxes is not stealing money, and if you feel that way, you may want to first take issue with the military budget. Second, i think that this statement displays a difference in philosophy. Obviously you are not a gentleman that likes to donate to charity. Third, if you can come up with a statistic that provides evidense for that last erroneous statement that cant be immediately debunked, than you are a better man than I.

@Omthiest That's strange, because statistics show that the amount of money you earn per year is inversely proportional to the strength of your belief in God. Additionally, how do you explain two people like Bill and Rachel making their way up from the bottom to the top? Who are these employees who have no benefits and vacation days? That's illegal in the United States. The only workers exempt from regulation are illegal aliens, and they aren't US citizens, so your argument is fallacious.

We can't ALL make it. That is the fundamental illusion of capitalism. It make people think we can all make it. If everyone makes it then there is nobody to take out the trash. The US only makes it possible for people to have upward mobility. But luck still play as part in one's hard work. The wealthier few have more opportunity that poorest majority. O'reilly doesn't understand wealth redistribution. We have to redistribute the wealth in order to make sure the top 2% doesn't exploit us.

I just did calculations (estimates) and the cost of the Iraq war alone can house, clothe, and feed 85% of the entire population in America thats not even counting the defense budget, black book costs, which i can guarantee would house, clothe, and feed the other 15%, Bill O'Reilly has no idea what hes talking about with not enough money, and when you take money out of the equation the Earth has more than enough RESOURCES to give everyone enough to survive

To those who think she sounds stupid, I beg to differ. I think she's open minded. She articulately expressed where she stood, but to go any further would be pulling her program out of context. She is not a debater & I think O'Reilly was pretty mild here. He'd have to be. It would be an effortless task on his part to go too far and alienate Rachael's entire demographic. America Heath care example 1......... It's Simple work for someone else get sick, lose your job, then you lose your employer base insurance...... Then you lose everything because of massive medical bills
