You do you think past the idea of slavey to the europeons? Aficanians, when the europeons first made landfall on the west coast of africa, they were trying to sell their black slaves to the white europeons and that it when it crossed over it to the western civilivision. Before that you could earn your freedom as slave, but after the fall of the roman empire, the dark ages, black plague, and rebirth, slavery was pretty dead in the western world until they hit the african coast, READ HISTORY!!
wow someone mentions slaver as soon as southerns stand proud the damn war was the war of northern aggression look up the meaning of the word civilwar nothing about this civil and slaves were not the issue till licoln made the proclamation because the south was about to get aid from england
@jparment You've got your history all garbled. England would NEVER ally herself with the south in this confilct if for no other reason than the fact that the south was a self-declared Confederacy of Slave-Holding States. Lincoln did not make it an issue. It was an issue since before the American Revolution and you would know that from reading the papers of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. John Adams was among the founders who wanted slavery banned in the Constitution in 1776!
@jparment Further, you completely dismiss the issues of slavery which arose in Congress and the Supreme Court: e.g., the Missouri Compromise (1820), Dredd v. Sanford, (1857), to name just two of many! Lincoln did believe slavery was morally wrong but he DID NOT want it to become an issue during his presidency. But slavery would almost certainly have become an issue regardless of who was elected in 1860.
@April 21, 1820: Thomas Jefferson"...but this momentous question, like a fire bell in the night, awakened and filled me with terror. I considered it at once as the knell of the Union. it is hushed indeed for the moment. but this is a reprieve only, not a final sentence. a geographical line, coinciding with a marked principle, moral and political, once conceived and held up to the angry passions of men, will never be obliterated; and every new irritation will mark it deeper and deeper.
@67forceman You mean you lament the demise of The Slave-Holding States of The Confederate States of America??? Sad. I'm lad it failed. And glad that our cinnamon skinned brothers and sisters no longer need fear the enslavers' claims.
@BEFinAR .A Marine Lt , friend of mine stated and I would agree after the South lost, Southern patriotism never flagged. Rick felt the huge number of Southern born Marines gave the Marine Corp the "feel" of the Southern Rebels. The Long Gray line of the South has marched into history, men of the South have not forgotten, or forgiven. Col John Thomason, wrote Fixed Bayonets!, He commanded the Marine Horse guard in China. He father was a CSA Regular! Raise a Rebel yell, Semper Fi, Mac.
@progressiverebel & BEFinAR: Thank you all for your service and you make a good point that doesn't apply solely to the Marines. It seems that a very large contingent of our Reserve and Guard troops (Marine, Army, Navy and Air Force) that have been called up and have served proudly have been from the southern states. I think that shows more than anything that "Rebel" boys are probably what keeps our country free.....

@TexasReb93 When you enter a country illegally you do not get to call the shots. But of course, anything is grist for the communist mill, right?

@StephanusTacitus first off
blacks in america had to suffer for another hundred years through segragation even though the south had lost the war
america didnt make them equal as they promised them during the war they still suffered for 100 years under the stars and stripes
enslavers?
theres a big difference between slavers and slave owners
slavers went out and stole the blacks in africa they were blacks who betrayed there own
slave owners puchased them
southerners were NOT slavers
