The monotone announcements sure did sound awkward :/ I dread at the thought of the driver saying "Coxwell", which I guess would sound more like "Cocks.....well"
Yeah, I miss the humming buzz during start and stop, the old conductor's whistle and most of all when the lights would flicker on & off on the rough patches of the bloor-danforth line..! lol
I still remember when the whistle thing was going on even by the end of the 90's.
I agree the automated doors are more efficient now.
However,I still can't stop missing the good old red baron subway trains that used to run way back in the 80's and the beginning of the 90's.The last time I rode on one f them was in early 1991 and then they were discontinued.
Does anyone else remember the red baron subway trains besides me?.
@mixedbreed19 Those were different cars. I think the ones you are referring to were from the 60s. They had plush grey and blue seats and the colouring of the plastic was greyish. There were also orange and cream coloured interiors, which I think came later.
I think these were the trains that used to buzz when they started and stopped. I never understood why they did that.
@elevatortraction Yep, before the chimes were installed, the TTC door guards used whistles. They were pretty loud, but I guess they felt the chimes were more efficient. When the RTs were first run, they started with chimes because there's only one TTC employee on a train. It must have been a several years before the chimes were retro-fitted onto the TTC subway trains.
@AmazingFantastic The transistion began on the Sheppard line in 2006, later added on the Yonge-University-Spadina in 2007 and finally on the Bloor-Danforth Line in 2008.
I remember this was my way back to home everyday, I lived there just for 8 months , But I miss many things, And see the TTC again was so good... Thanks for posting,
The H6's are good trains but the whole train vibrates when they stop after pulling in to a station. Probably, the H5's are the best trains so far, because they run smoothly and stop smoothly.
This has the H4 sound

the h6 is almost the same as the h5 but the difference is that, the h5 has red seats and the h6 has orange seats. not much a difference

The red seats in the H6 is so ugly, TTC should replace them with the orange seats.

I love the noise the train makes after it has finished buzzing when accelerating in this particular video. It sounds very... subway-ish. (1:24)

Actually some don't
046547717 4 years ago
Another minor factor is the driver. Some drivers put on the brakes too hard, that may make the train vibrate more.
jjkkll889900 4 years ago
the h-5 has automactic regenative braking.
