I am curious to see DARK BLOOD. She was not cordial with River Phoenix, he said she makes her skin crawl. I am anxious to see if the friction between the two is apparant...
Phenomenal performance....I really felt her anxieties and her "frigidity" in this movie...amazing. I am such a type B, laid back person...and I swear, during this movie I felt as tightly wound as she was. lol :0)
One of my favorite moments in the movie is when Judy Davis is standing on the staircase and realizes that her husband is lying to her... she doesn't say anything, but... oh it's just perfect.
Judy Davis is just brillant. You're right she should have won the oscar. Marisa was good and she has done some superb and oscar caliber work in the roles since then. Judy is superb!
Judy Davis was amazing, but Tomei was superior. Just because she did a comedy does not make her inferior. Anyone can do drama. Not anyone can do comedy, and Tomei did it splendidly.
hahahah, poor guy... all he wanted was to see the opera and have a nice date... meanwhile his date, who is still married, is using the phone to yell at ther husband, and in between phone calls is either reassuring him everything is fine or yelling at him too!! this scene is priceless :D
I really adore this woman's genius - unlike Meryl Streep, she's never been overexposed and every appearence by her is a precious treat. Judy is simply a maverick - deeply creative and a pure artist.
That pert little (Careful or I'll rip your throat out) half-smile she gives her date at 1:57 kills me everytime coming straight on the heels of that unselfconscious tirade on the phone, hilarious!
Judy Davis won every critics' group award prior to the Oscars and yet failed to win the Academy Award... I think Jack Palance had a minor stroke and called out the wrong name.
I love it, she's totally losing it but cannot help herself so she sinks deeper and deeper....my favorite part of the whole movie and reinforces what I love about Woody Allen movies. :)
Look, Marisa Tomei gave a fine, genuinely funny performance in "My Cousin Vinny," but it doesn't even come close to operating on the levels Judy Davis did in "Husbands and Wives," particularly on that last phone call. Davis mixes drama, tragedy, and ironic, sadistic comedy all during the same lines at times, making us laugh at her pathetic character while pitying her disposition.
one of the best scenes from the film, of course, i have difficulty saying that because i believe ALL the scenes from this film are brilliant - this movie defines love and relationships more realistically than anything under the sun.
i know what you meant i was just been hillarious like the amazing talent that is Marisa Tomei and i am sick of people knocking her win she gave a great comic performance if vinny was set in 1820 i sure no one would of have had a problem with her win.
Judy Davis was so brilliant in this movie - I would have picked her for Best Supporting Actress, if I didn't love Ms Joan Plowright in Enchanted April. Two very different performances and it is such a toss up but in any other year, Ms Davis would have nailed it. She makes being a bitch so wonderful to watch
Favourite moments:
1:19-1:27 - "Oh, you're in love! So fast?" Her expression of wounded confirmation as she lifts her hand to her head is heartbreaking.
1:30-40 - her poor date, gingerly leafing through the book, is a classic Woody Allen moment
2:11 - *raises brow* "A Don Juan story?"
2:01-2:04 "Listen if you're having some kind of personal thi-"

Today, she'd have a cell and would be walking all over the house or worse, hold the call right in front of her date.

Everyone in this movie was on top form. Absolutely brilliant. On of my faves from the master, Woody Allen.

All pretentiousness aside; she was clearly at her best in "Who Dares Wins", opposite the brilliant Lewis Collins.
