Adobe Flash Tutorial - Syncing Animated Mouths to Voices

This was a great help thanks alot! Ive synq'd it up nice'n'good!

I do have a problem though: The sound is embedded within the graphic as per video and when i look in the graphic and hit play; I can hear it. But I have applied the graphic now to my main scene and cant hear the sound even when I preview the movie. I can get sound if I change the type of symbol to a movie from Graphic but this then messes up and repeats in a stange way.

Does anyone know how to sort out my nubtasix problem?

@SyphonFilterVirus Hey, When you select the symbol the properties appear in the properties panel/box/window. In that box there should be a "Looping" extended menu. Under this menu, when opened, is "Options" with a drop down menu right next to it. "Single Frame" should be one of these options. :) Your comment was two months ago, but did you find the single frame option before this?

If u have any recording software, Preferebly Addobe Soundbooth, Plug in a mic (Could use a singstar one) record ur sound and save it go back to flash, then file, import, import to libary then choose your file and then create a new layer named sound and find the correct place in the timeline where u want ur sound then go 2 libary ( next 2 properties) and Drag and drop!!

Google screen recorder software and you will get hundreds of results for software that can record everything from your desktop. To record your voice you will need a mic and set the recording software to record audio from it.

with my version of flash (flash 8), when i pause an animation after hitting enter, even though the frames stop changing, the sound keeps playing, and so i have to hear the entire clip before i can play it again. This can be especially tedious if i am trying to sync music to an animation, since it plays the entire song without stopping. The only way i can get around this is to just create a preview animation, which can waste a fair bit of time. Is there any other way around this?

Great video on the mouth comp system, dude! Couldn't live without it! A tip for newer users.. make sure you have sound set to stream... Also, press F6 to insert keyframes.. save a lot of time. Happy animating!!

You can drag the bars around to move them to your preferred place. Just try figuring out how to set up the document. Try different tabs. Are you using Flash CS4? You should have no trouble making your way around.

This was very helpful, I just wonder if this method would work well on more realistic-like flash animations.

Also I probably should figure out what all the appropriate mouth animations are. I could see myself making two different drawings for what could pass as the same sound and forget some other important sound until it comes up.

I'm using Flash CS4, and I've got my graphic in a graphic, but I don't see any "single frame" option. All I have is a drop down for the symbol type, something that says "Instance of: Symbol 1" and then next to it a button that says "Swap..." which takes me to a window where I can select a symbol. How can I make it so that I get a single frame and not just a playing graphic?

yes you do, if you are using this method. There are other methods of animating mouths, and probably the easiest and fastest from my experience.

Make sure the sound is set to stream and not event. Click the sound file on the timeline and the option should be in the properties box.

Well I have a problem =(. When I hit enter there's only the animation that goes off, even if the marker is going on the audio clip. I can hear the clip if I do a 'Test Movie' but this is not very good to see what sound goes where. Is there something to do to activate the sound playing in the timeline without using Test Movie? The program is more than likely not the problem, but if you do a google search for PC sound recorders, I'm sure you'll get some results. I work on a Mac so the software I use may not be available to you.

How so? Does it crackle, or is it too quiet? Chances are your mic settings are not right. If you go into your sound settings you can adjust the mic volume, that may help. Beyond that I'm not too sure what it could be.

You're asking how you record voices to the computer? You will need a PC mic, which you plug into the computer. Then, assuming you use Windows, open a program called Sound Recorder and from there you can record voices by talking into the mic.
