  • He isn't taking 900 pounds worth of strain at the bottom of the rep, as half of the chains are resting on the ground. I wouldn't call this 900*5

  • @woohay fair enough. How much do you think his body weight is? He's supporting that as well. So yeah, more then 900lbs, lol. :D

  • I lift weights and was wondering what those chains are for. I also think that sliding those pins out at the top of the movement defeats the safety of using a power cage. The pins are put in place at below bottom of squat in case you can't make it up. You guys are stronger than me so you can tell me why I am wrong. I know you can make the bar heavier without using the chains.

  • @watsby7 Chains add progressive resistance to the bar, since at the bottom of the lift some of the chain is on the floor and at the top all of the chains are suspended from the bar. They slide the pins out to simulate a monolift I believe

  • decent weight for somo good mornings lockouts

  • how can you increase your bench so much so quick, ive been stuck in the same wieght for a cpl weeks and only go up 5 lbs at a time

  • @magnum151515 train using the 5x5 method or 5,4,3,2,1. upping the weight each time, if you want to lift heavy, then train heavy. also train legs. properly.

  • gene-o, gotta keep them knees out, or you're gonna break them.

    just sayin

  • @pantherlax01 u can really break them by going up and your knees goes in alittle

  • does Gene deadlift? Seen him bench and squat a shit load but no deadlift videos.

  • @snizshizzle Don't know about his recent lifting, but yes he has trained deadlift. Back in 05 he was doing just past 700 lbs.

  • bad right knee

  • @NBison100 look at 0.23 and u will see...

  • impressive but not a true 900 because the chains are progressive weight but very strong none the less

  • how the fuck did u train to get so strong??

  • bow flex.

  • NOT U . HIM

  • oh, ok. well im sure it involves a westside program or variation of it, about 10,000 calories a day, very heavy weights and alot of rest.

  • lmfao

  • gene is hella strong, that is insane lifting. the ssb is a bastard.

  • cool

  • Dang dude, SSB is killer. All those people talking about form...psh. This is frikkin PLing not the olympics. Keep it up

  • wow

  • I guess cheating is okay.. i mean not having to balance for use of the arms is cool, and very shitty stance, his legs at 2x shoulder width.

  • You obviously haven't ever done any powerlifting. In powerlifting, squat is done with a very wide stance. The wider the stance the less stress on your knees but the more stress on your hips. Your hips can take more punishment than your knees.

  • his knees bow on every rep.

  • and just one of them is stronger than both of yours.

  • @afulop Ey, do you have any tips for bad knees? I've done varius of workouts before, at my top I did legpress 250kgx12 (So I don't really get why my knees are bad now) but anyways, started Squatting for some months ago (shoulder width stance with knees) I got good form and all, but my knees just can't take it :/

So I've stopped squatting for the moment, do you have any ideas/tips on why my knees are acting like this and perhaps how I could fix it? I can't find any leg exercise better than Squat.

  • @afulop Is he holding onto the rack ?

  • @45xilx45 I know, he is missing the whole point of the chains.

  • Comment removed

  • Is that Louie simmons on the left?

  • It's Brian Weston on the leftside of the screen

  • Oh, the whole baldness thing just made me think.

  • Strong, but form was atrocious. He did it nevertheless.

  • dude nvm its not? and your right they look like 500 maybe it is different plates like 50lbs plates or 100

  • he's using chains

  • fuck yea training with chains thats the way to do it

  • TRUE MONSTER!!!!

  • Disqualified by you? Who are you?

  • FREAKING BEAST STATUS

  • what kind of bench cycle does gene follow

  • You'll have to ask him yourself. I know Jason Strunk is following Gene's program. In the last 10 weeks Jay's put 100 pounds on his bench.

  • do you have his email

  • he benches about every 5 days, never goes over 450 raw. lots of shirt work.

  • What is Gene's raw bench?

  • Lol, he is pulling up with his lats. With a back like that I bet he could cheat about 300-400 pounds.

  • He isn't pulling up. Trust me. He puts his hands on the uprights for balance and to keep his back spread instead of compressed. If he pulled on it, he'd tear his rotator cuff. try it sometime, you'll see.

  • You would not tear a rotator cuff if you pulled up with a little pressure. I am saying he is cheating a bit by taking weight off the legs.

  • it is what it is...

cheating? so are you saying he could have knocked out another 100 reps?

it's all about MAX EFFORT, no matter what you do, it's how much effort you put into it...

there are many many different and safe ways to train then you and i will ever know...

  • bottom line is he is fuckin stronger than you'll ever be and there's nothing you could teach Gene Rychlak about powerlifting...

  • How about teaching about fashion? He looks like shit.

  • Hes in fucking power lifting gear, do you expect him to wear a tuxedo you pussy?

  • You guys need a proper powerlifting squat rack. :-) It looks so dangerous, you guys sliding the bar underneath as he is trying to hold the weight after he is done. Impressive lifting though. Cheers!!!

  • We have a monolift that others were using. Gene built this rack himself. Honestly it just needs some lube so the safety catches don't get stuck.

  • weve all seen gene squat and bench does he deadlift?

  • Actually he hasn't squatted or deadlifted in competition in a while. Currently he only squats to build leg drive for benching. He can't do regular back squats anymore due to shoulder inflexibility. Happens to nearly every top bencher. I don't think guys like Kennelly or Rob Luyando do anything other than bench anymore either.

  • Wow, you are actually saying that he can't bring his arms into the position to hold the bar at his shoulder level???

That is insane. I wonder if he can feed himself or if he has to have a nanny.

  • He can put his arms under the bar. There's videos of him back squatting over 1000 pounds in competition. Back squatting however causes damage to your shoulders more if they are inflexible. The less flexible, the more damage caused. Damage to shoulders hinders your bench. Thus he doesn't back squat anymore in order to have the highest bench possible.

  • Wouldn't you think squatting with 900-1000 pounds would be really bad for your disks? I wonder what kind of pain this level of lifter has to live with. They must be in constant pain all over.

  • Repeated compression with no relief does cause damage. One of the exercises powerlifters use to prevent this damage from building up is reverse hyperextension. You can look it up if you like. It's highly recommended you do reverse hyper after every squat session.

  • I am disappointed in the knees turning in like that.

  • Yeah, it wasn't good for him that his knees came in like that. Happens when he goes past parallel. Not every set is going to have perfect form. Gene said he wants a mirror there in the future so he can see when he hits parallel. Most of the time he squats to a box.

  • not even holding the bar thats crazy

  • You don't need to hold an SSB, it stays in place. He puts his hands on the uprights in order to keep his upper body wide.
