i have a 292 in a truck, i am wondering if dual weber32/36-holley 5200's be sufficient for a stock motor, with just some shorty headers. maybe a mild cam like cliffords 260* in the future? the reason i ask is ive got three of those carbs lying around, and moneys tight so hoping those would work. thanks!!
I have a 292. Triple weber 45 dcoe's and the clifford intake. Bottom end is balanced to within .3grams. Block is at -0- deck and head is milled .060". 1.94/1.60 valves and lots of porting on the exhaust side besides your lump port mod. Harland sharp roller rockers, 7/16 pinned studs and clifford hardened pushrods. Homemade 2in. primary 4in. collector 6 into 1 header with a Borla xr1 race muffler. Cam? Clifford or custom grind from a major company? Want 6-6.5K rpm and well over 300hp. Doable?
That RPM range can be hard on a 292, they will have harmonic problems. A cam to get you there is a Clifford 280H but maybe better is a 280M ( solid lifter).
Didn't have enough room to type all machining done. I also balanced recip. assem. to within 0.3g and have a fluidampr harmonic balancer. In your experience, would this be enough to prevent harmonic issues? I found that compcams cam and it works out pretty nicely in desktop dyno with the flow numbers Im getting. Another one was a 312 deg. solid lifter cam from Isky. Wonder if that may be too much though. Thanks so much for all the help.
@tylerkb12 292's are notorious for harmonics. Use a HD V8 flexplate and loctite the flywheel bolts. They tend to have harmonics around the 52-5300 rpm level. If you get past that, you should be good. Tom
What kind of headers do you have on there? Are those the cliffy truck headers? They don't look like they go that low and I was wondering if I could put them on my 69 Special Deluxe 2-Door Coupe
Tom, I have a similar combo, with lump port heads, but my max hp was 270 at ONLY 5200 rpm. I have lump port heads, didn't flowed them though, but I believe with more agressive camming 300 hp should be possible, just shy of 6 grand, what do you think? My cam seems to be wilder than yours, also, 238° @.050, but generated less power at less rpm.
what cam are you using, a Clifford 270, did I hear right? It's a pretty mild cam. thes e lumps do work! I think, with a little bit more cam and compression, 300 hp should be possible. Are you goin to test 3 webers, also?
I have a chevy 250 and was wondering what you'd say it would take to reach about 200 horsepower and can it be done without making it a gas guzzler?

I'm sorry, did you say 1350 rpm with 270 Clifford cam? Could you put the cam specs? Hydraulic/mechanical, lift, duration 0.05"... I'm from Brasil.

@tylerkb12 tyler,
Sounds like you have a good foundation started.

@SuperInline6
Yep a mild Clifford 270 cam. We did test this with 3 sidedrafts and gained a bunch of tq. Hp jumped also.
telowe2000 1 year ago
@telowe2000
What sidedrafts, Webers?
I'm doing triple side draft 1.5" SU's on a relatively stock motor and am curious as to what kind of performance i should expect.
4ageminor 1 year ago
@4ageminor Hp will be nearly the same. Tq at lower rpms , like 3300 rpm will be up about 10-15 ft lbs over a 4 bbl carb. Tom

Did this motor have those intake lumps installed?
