I do not believe in executions for any reason. Prisons keep dangerous people separated from society. Executions are for revenge. "Thou shall not kill" and "Revenge is mine, sayeth the Lord."
As more and more people in this world are being victimized by an increasingly inhuman economic system, desperation grows. The sole purpose of the death penalty in this context is to terrorize and manipulate the population into obedience.
I just waanted to say to all of the people saying that these men BOTH deserved to be executed that within the next few years Jason and his supporters will be going back to court with newly discovered evidence of actual innocense. Also Mr. Herzogs movie is about humanity and not the case itself so any opinions formed based soley on this film incomplete.
the death penalty should be everywhere in the world. as long as its humane. you put these murdering freaks out on parole and they are back on the streets, with no money, no job, and they are ready to steal and kill again. there lives have no value. some of you may think im wrong. but that's just because you havnt been the killer's next victim
@SukiSukiNiiNii You obviously haven’t seen Kieślowski’s “A short film about killing.” It will undoubtedly change - or having yourself question - your opinion, lest you were looking away half the time.
I can understand where Herzog is coming from, but sometimes the ultimate punishment needs to be used. Some people simply cannot exist in society and actively try to destroy it. These men needed to be executed.
the guys killed (adam and jeremy not the idiots who killed them) were extremely close to me and this made me have chills. ive seen that car in person ive been in that house. those guys were part of my crew and i believe that the death penalty was the right way to go.
I'm glad I caught a screening of this. It's a superb documentary. It presents a deep look into the motivations, emotions, and consequences of all people involved -- victims, convicts, the executioners. It shows a bleak cycle of tragedy through the families of the victims and the murderers. It's NOT anti death penalty propaganda AT ALL. Herzog doesn't excuse the crimes, but he also wants to show the murders as people. I highly suggest this doc.
I can hear it now: "Why do we kill people to show people that killing is wrong?" It's on a million bumper stickers, so it's bound to show up in these comments. Okay then, why do we kidnap people to show people that kidnapping is wrong?
See how that works? Murder is not morally equivalent to legal execution. Trying to conflate the two is confused at best, and more likely is just simple sophistry.
@mo0nbuggy i dun give a European pimps second string hooker what or where YOU are from because we all know the answwer is SPECIAL EDUCATION. i am an AMERICAN citizen and I believe in freedom so drink some red wine, eat a cheese, and say cheese motherfucker because I just blasted u with some AMERICAN FREE SPEECH.
@mo0nbuggy gee, uh, maybe ur faggy way of speaking or maybe ur affiliation with ilogical statements. Youve got to be euro, if not ur probably from Zaire or something.
@mo0nbuggy and you are a bigoted, ignorant, misinformed fool with no ability to comprehend the fact that every single nation on this planet has its flaws. The United States is jam-packed with great, kind, and intelligent individuals. It is not conducive to anything positive to maintain your mindset of blind ignorance regarding stereotypes of others. Do not judge us by our middle-American inhabitants who do not know any better. Wise up.
@hificomponentsystem No execution is not wrong. If you willingly take another person's life for your own selfish gain, then your own life should be forfeit. Execution removes animals like Michael Perry from our society. He'll never again have the chance to murder another human being and good riddance to him..
I'm not happy that he threw his life away, but I am relieved that he's been removed from among us.
I understand your point of view, but the fact that people feel they have a right to take away others lives despite their actions. I agree with captivity to prevent sin suvh as that bu t all life belongs to GOD.
@hificomponentsystem You are correct that all life belongs to God, and that includes the lives taken by this animal. In the Bible, the commandment "Thou shall not kill" is translated back to its original language as "Thou shall do no murder". Murder is the premeditated act of killing someone strictly for selfish gain, in this case, to gain that car. Michael Perry did not deserve to live rent free at our expense, especially since he seemed so remorseless about his crime. I'm glad he's gone.
@thafoofa Very good point. However, being glad someone is dead (im assuming) translates to hate. In the Bible it is said that hate is an equivalent to murder. furthermore because all life belongs to GOD, it is meant that it is not anyones authority to take that away from anyone including yourself. However you have your opinion and I respect that.
@hificomponentsystem Likewise, I respect that you have yours. I'm not happy that this man is dead. Maybe a better way for me to say it would be to say that I'm relieved that he is not among us any more. Every moment that this remorseless creature drew breath would be another chance for him to kill again. It's an ugly business any way you look at it, but I guess this is what happened when sin was let loose upon the world.
@YogzDaBeatChild reformation: Help the person become a productive member of society. Not only would this save human lives, but would also severely decrease the amount of re-offenders if introduced to normal jail sentences.
@YogzDaBeatChild I hope this helped you understand the other side of the argument better :) when it comes to the politic and practical problem with this solution in wherever you live I cannot comment on. but atleast this is how I would go on improving the system.
@YogzDaBeatChild additonally I'd say the point of death penalty is not for the good if the society, its more of a revange from the people that has been insulted by the act. You can say 'Oh but you'd feel different if it were YOU who lost a child', and yes I would feel different, I'd probably be so full of rage I couldn't think about anything else than revenge, much less anything that could resemble justice.
I do not belive in monsters, only misguided and damaged human beings
@YogzDaBeatChild I think the better alternativ is treatment. I see no problems with it. I live in Norway and here the harshest penalty is 21 years in jail, and that has worked out quite well. It works like this: you treat and help the people that commit these terrible acts, BECAUSE they are simply not fit in our society. if they are not 'healed' by the 21 year period, and not ready to be put back in the community, they may serve another 21, and so forth.
@BoxingIsFun I'm not sure how one decides who "belongs" or does not.. When a murder is committed, I try not just to look for the "who dun it", instead I try to understand the social influences (such as poverty, lack of education or lack of medical aid) that allowed such a depraved act to occur. When we ignore the ills of our society and solely blame the individual for their mistakes, we effectively allow more murders to happen. As social creatures, we are responsible for each other. Real talk.
@BoxingIsFun More specifically, some people don't deserve life. I'm sorry but this is the truth.
People need to realize that "killing" somebody who has killed is NOT the same as real killing due to greed, power, or simply because they wanted to. Whoever does compare these two or use them in the same sentence needs to go take ethics 101.
Of course the man seems sympathetic, he's locked up. Set him free and give him a weapon, and he's a monster. I say execute the fucker, if he hasn't been already.
@RebelfireLives Nope. I'm not. Since when did i sate i was doing so? Ending a life is bad. Be it either murdering an innocent person, or murdering someone for any reason other than self-defense or related scenarios. The man is already locked inside a prison.... he won't have any contact with society for the rest of his life, therefore he can no longer harm anyone. Yet, someone decides that his life now has to end. It's that eye for an eye philosophy....... what a shame.
I never said you were, I guessed that you were trying. Ending a life is not always bad. These men have proven themselves to not only a danger to society, but also a burden. Why exactly should we as a society provide housing, food, clothing, and recreation for those we have banished from civil life? It's not an eye for an eye philosophy, it for the protection and preservation of society.
@RebelfireLives Mmmm technically you're right. But look. If it's money issues, then the U.S shouldn't have a problem..... Look at all the billions of dollars that are spent each month to support war...... funny... billions are spent with the goal of killing and destruction. Yet those morons complain about not having cash for this or for that..... but here's the point. IT's STILL wrong. Even if they have no means to support those prisoners...
@RebelfireLives And put yourself in the shoes of his mother..... really.... try it. And imagine how it would feel to know that your "baby" ( despite having taken someone else's life ) is going to get killed. Simply because someone says so. That "Eye for an eye" thinking. is also visible in war. Take the killing of Saddam for example. America was "trying to stop the blood-shed, and violence" Yet, when they captured him, they hang him on Live Television with thousands of families watching.....
If I was the mother, and I found out my child had killed a woman over a car, I'd be horrified, probably broken. But would not think my child was some "victum of the system".
@RebelfireLives But it would hurt you to see him die. Wouldn't it? Don't bull-shit me. It would. Imagine what they must feel. Sure he's a monster. But he's her son.
@RebelfireLives No. It's about what it feels like to be on death row. What it feels like to know that you're gonna die and know exactly when you're gonna die and how it's gonna happen. Man is the only creature that is conscious of his own death. I don't give a fuck about these people, their poor choices brought them where they are. It's just interesting to see how each deals with the situation they are in, some accept them, some are in denial, others make up bullshit stories about afterlife.

sometimes justice is about punishment !
is it ironic to stop killing you kill the murderers?
or is more realistic that...
somethings are just simply unforgivable...
and the death penalty... is punishment for heinous crimes
