  • i hate the ridiculous waste of food in our western society! but companies will get round to streamlining waste vs profit & then Mark wont have any freebies! i work for an american owned company & am appalled at the amount of waste ( at least 3 tons of edible product per day) but they will realise you cant be so reckless with food/nutrients in the future! i look at the food we throw away & think of how many people/families/villages could survive on what we throw out & it breaks my heart!

  • it's my goal to start producing 25% of my own food from a garden along with chickens and bees. I would also like goats and pigs, but I don't think I could slaughter them myself unless I was a week from dying of starvation. But the point is if I was even making a quarter of my food at home I would feel better and more secure.

  • I would add bicycle electronic generator to the list of things to buy before going completely moneyless.

  • "Be the change you want to see in the world." Awesome quote!

  • and you could also apply alot of the ideas in the vid and just be much more frugal in your own life

  • how does he get internet connection? I'm not complaining, I'm just curious, this is a really cool project he's undertook btw, thanks for uploading.

  • @shimwah Your right he has to be living off of somebody.

  • There are many indigenous cultures around the world that have no concept of money and they are by far more civilized than many of us. Our ancestors lived like this. Money is not evil or nefarious it's whatever we make it to be, but whatever it is it's not working.......

  • Oh my God...all the wasters just throwing away that food! WOW good for him.

  • I'm seriously considering this.

  • Anybody can live without money if they buy all the stuff first... i.e: Trailer, boots, tarp, stove, etc... etc... Truly living without money means starting with nothing and making/acquiring everyhting as you go along without $...

This guy is not doing that.

  • @CactusWolf He wasn't exactly raised like this, he had to start from somewhere so he used what he had at the time to set himself up for this new way of life. He's not looking to make his life harder by starting from scratch, that would just be stupid.

  • great video...

  • I thought he was supposed to be VEGAN? did I just see him take 'German HAM' out of that filthy bin?

  • Kali Yuga has kicked it up one knotch...

  • i agree,he is sexy..i would live with him without spending money, hey mr boyle..im single:)

  • y doesnt he fuk off back to ireland and be self sufficient?.......[only kiddin]

  • I have morally protested by losing all my money on roulette

  • fuck u all he has a laptop lol, guy is not living off the land but works for food. lol fuck right off he is not anything special

  • Very good idea!

  • does he smokes weed??? I could live without money, but without weed... I love weed

  • He is sexy

  • I like his bold example and I think its an extreme effort in response to an extremely dysfunctional economic system.

  • I'VE READ HIS BOOK and i agree with all of his philosophies on society, economics and the destructiveness of globalization. BUT there is one thing i find very important which he didn't go into detail on, which is SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY.In my opinion, exploration through technology is of absolute importance, to answer questions about the universe, but also impossible in a localized society. To deny ourselves the answers to our questions is to suppress intelligence and natural progression of life.

  • Like it, I LOVE it!

  • I totally get what hes doing. It must be a lot of work to live like that but the feeling of being free from the capitalist monopoly must be worth it. I am thinking of buying a caravan and doing it myself...hmmm.

  • Thats fuckin sad man, all that food that the companies throw away.

I used to work at Wendy's, & at the end of the night they would throw way a whole lot of food thats still good.

  • How does he pay rent?

  • Are you living on public or private land? That is the one thing I wonder how folks do this...land usually belongs to someone. If you own it then at least here in the US the government has property tax. It is so difficult to get away from money if you own your own house. Even without utilities the government still wants to tax us.

  • @MelodyAtHome I'm reading his book, and basically it's privately owned land, so the people who own the farm pay tax and stuff, but he barters for the use of the land by helping out on the farm. It's one of the key concepts he's pushing; to use alternative methods of exchange, like bartering or better still, just unconditional giving, in the hope of receiving in return. And yes it does work :)

  • that dudes legit, he just some weed trees growing up in there

  • Isn't it lucky this guy found so many out of date razors so he could conform and look just like the Guardian journalist who spent a few quid on blades?

Living without money my arse, yes our society could do with learning lessons about waste but is this pikey willing to work to support a community? I think not!

  • @DE4THbyFE4R why should he support a community, unless he voluntarily wants to? people these days are overly dependent on the welfare state, cradle to grave

  • @przem23 My comment about supporting a community was in no way referring to the welfare state.

Communities are destroyed by the state, we can agree that dependence upon the state has become out of control, is that the fault of the people or the state though?

My main point was about community, it's all well and good one man taking a step away from money, finding ways to live for now without using it, if he does nothing to enrich the community around him how does it help anyone but him?

  • @ibourne80 Hundreds, if not thousands, of tons of unspoiled, unopened food is thrown away yearly. All this goes to landfills as waste (...look up 'food waste' for more info...). There is nothing wrong with taking from the garbage that which is discarded...the current socio-economic system generate an overabundance of waste. If more people were aware of this...starvation would be a myth - should be a myth.

  • This type of lifestyle is just living off the waste & handouts of society, which is not the solution. It works only if a fraction of the people live this way, while depending on society's labor and money economy to produce the scraps necessary for their survival. Anyone can live in a trailer and subsist on dumpster diving. Only difference between this guy and a bum on the street is this guy has some land and adequate shelter. Noble effort, but the "independence factor" is lacking.

  • @No1warp9 The guy is essentially a scavenger or like you said- a dumpster diver- looking for things that people throw out. You can look at this person and say he's not contributing to the economy, but on the flip side this person can be seen as "recycling" the garbage that would end up in the landfill anyways. Now to say this person is a "bum" is a bit of a stretch- this guy is living through an ideology of simple living. How he does it, though, is a different matter.

  • I don't need much to live living in a van on free wifi.I couldn't live without the internet an you will see why if you check out my video .

  • Just think of all the bs that guy doesn't have to put up with. No boss stomping on his nuts, no landlord hassling him for rent 2 weeks early, no creditors calling at 2 in the morning, no power company double billing . . . he might be onto something here.

  • he says he dont spend money,ok so how do he charge his laptop battery ,pay the internet, and pay the terrain where the trailler is,besides trailler documents. This guy preffer search for food on the garbage but he have a laptop with internet wow.Yeah it would be nice to live with out money but whille all world runs with it we cant live with out it,like it or not!!Happy easter to every1

  • @M8OO8M A fair amount? What, all of 10$ a year, if that..? From library expenses. Oh jeez, he wants to read.

The food from the supermarket was in the garbage, meaning if no one takes it it goes to waste. He's feeding himself with food that would otherwise of gone unused.

  • what does he do with the soiled newspaper?

  • @Orf Probably re-uses it.

  • wow an homeless with a laptop , a trailler and a degree lol

  • @guido69x That pretty much describes me. Just add a few more degrees.

  • What a cheap bastard

  • @firdaus125 Do you reflect yourself sometimes??

If you do it with that sentence you wrote you can find something that you probably will be very heppy in future.

It it that a longterm solution: faster, harder??

  • this guy is awesome, but he needs subtitles, I can't hardly understand him!!

  • Most ironic vid to have ads at the start of

  • Anyone know what Mark Boyle is up to these days?

  • I Llike this guy, he is not just a waster trying to make an excuse to get away from the shitty little bubble we all call 'society' by claiming benefits.

The one thing I would say is that when the system fails, and it will soon, Tesco or anything like them won't have any food on the shelves in the first place let alone anything to throw into skips. I wonder how many people really could handle a total collapse of the money system which is controlled by the Central Ganksters and Rothschild monopoly

  • @MrUAV100 I hope you know this guy barters with work for food... he grows a very small amount and you cant live off a couple garden veggies a year, dont idolize this guy hes really not living off the land. When the money system fails you dont thing that trading will just return back to a currency? we have been using currency for thousands of years so it will move to a different value. ie franks to euros etc etc grow up

  • @reid300 Don't patronise me you fucking arrogant cunt!! Not exactly an expert in history are you? It is not true that currency was always silver/gold or money of some shape or form. You are the idiot here and will most likely wish you could survive a collpase where all is gone (no more Tesco) and only skills like this can save your stupid little small minded brain from shrivelling up due to starvation... Fuck you!!

  • @MrUAV100 obviously, but affiliated with every civilized nation is usually a currency. Im not an idiot...b4 then bartering etc. Your retarted if you think we can go back to anything b4 modern currencies

  • @MrUAV100 Excuse me. What's wrong with claiming benefits? There aren't enough jobs to go round so some of us have to claim benefits. Also there aren't enough farmers allowing you to live on their land for free in return for a bit of help. Plus some of us on benefits have taken tips from Mark and have gone skip diving and grow vegetables.

  • @lemsip Nothing wrong if you are genuine (lots of people abuse the handouts)and need the funding but relying on the 'System' for handouts when you could survive without going to the Government for cash. When it all falls apart, and it will, the best way to be prepared is to become totally independent BEFORE it's too late. If anyone can't see that the current world financial system is about to collapse, similar to Roman history, then they are 100% fucked if not ready when it does come to us.....

  • @MrUAV100 Don't use Mark Boyle to have a go at benefit claimants. Shame on you. You could have an accident and not be able to work and even if you decided to struggle into work with the pain no employer would hire you. Then where would you be. You wouldn't be able to claim benefits as that would make you a hypocrite. You disgust me.

  • @MrUAV100 I think the point is to eventually create a community of like minded individuals and then grow 100% of their own food. One person cannot live completely independent of "society" but a community could... possibly.

  • this really shows how many things we take for granted, not to assume that his life is bad, but so many every day things that we dont even think about, how we get it, and how important it is

  • @M8OO8M True, but on the flip-side if there were more people living like this, thus having some sort of community, then together they could farm or find a way to work together to feed the community without relying on "the system". Being on your own would be much harder, so a bit of parasitism is necessary. But it's the vision and idea that you can survive without money that he's trying to portray, which I find very admirable.

  • I feel that we could all live the life of money without money.. watch the zeitgeist.

  • I'd hate to wipe my ass in leaves

  • A comment from someone I won't name: "Now that he's on the news his book will sell like crazy. How long will he be living in the trailer and eating thrown out food then?" A bit snotty but it's a touch truthful: he won't be the "No Money Man" then. My guess is that he'll throw the bulk of the money into charity or set up a program to feed the homeless. He seems the type to do that.

  • @Bunkysmom65 He's using the Money from the sales of the book to set up a community that will function without money.

He is still living without money as we speak.

  • @northernhoard Sounds like a big project. If you happen to know, I'm curious....by setting up a community, what exactly will that be? Is he going to buy a tract of land for people to set up their trailers/huts/whatever on and allow them to live there while they go about their daily survival....When I think of setting up a community, that's where my mind goes...is he talking a physical setting up or an information and help group type of thing?

  • @Bunkysmom65 I think that he is going to set it up along the lines of Tinkers Bubble in Dorset where all of the houses will be off grid and growing areas for food production, it is workable as there are a few projects around the UK where people are living on very litte money.

Its worth joining the freeconomy site that mark has set up, if you type in just for the love of it (one word) it should take you there.

He is a friendly guy and answers messages and queuries that you mail to him.

  • seems like a really smart guy, but i can't understand a word that he's saying.

  • Someone should lend mark the " THE RINGING CEDAR SERIES " Anastasia book one of the series. see you tube videos about the series.

It's about a woman like Mark that lives off the land with spiritual elements.

  • @RETIREMESOON so funny that you mention the Ringing Cedars, as I've had the editor and translator of the English edition on 2 of my radio shows! Nice to meet another fan of the Anastasia books:)

  • His story about grocery workers being forced to throw out perfectly good food simply because of expiry dates and broken packaging is absolutely true! We I started working in a grocery store, I was immediately taken aback by the amount of wasting we did. It's not even funny...We used to throw out perfectly good food products simply because consumers wouldn't buy them. I don't blame the companies, I blame us, the consumer for wanting nothing but the best. We started this vicious circle...

  • @IsraelZealot1 Don't blame the customers. Stores order in too much food and they could easily get rid of excess food about to go off by selling it cheap at the end of the day or giving it away to the homeless.

  • now I can't understand where he's got this idea, though, he's became my new, kind of idol. God job, Mark Boyle

  • Interesting video. Getting "off the grid" and away from the big corporation dominance is a dream of many. Mark does a good job doing that, but one of the big things I didn't hear answered is the property he squats on. While it is fine since he is reasonably well setup with a little stream nearby and lots of land to do farming on... I am wondering why he is not getting chased away constantly by the land owner. Also, I wonder what he trades for his internet connection and cellphone.

  • @roberthowald He's not squatting. He's living there with permission of the farmer in return for helping him with work.

  • Interesting how he's managed. I don't know that I could do it, but more power to him. I do have a question though: if the stores didn't dump food in the skips for him and others to take, wouldn't he have a hard time getting by, especially in winter? There are homeless people out there that need that food - while society is messed up and he objects to the waste, it's the waste that is helping him and others survive. One coin, two sides.

  • @Bunkysmom65 excellent point. I agree we waste FAR too much in our society, but it is exactly this waste that he and others are living off. What should be done, and is done in some places, is that the food that is not acceptable to sell but is still fit for human consumption is distributed to the people who need it most, rather than tossed in the garbage.

  • @SpiritualShow Thank you for seeing my point. While others have pointed out that food can be obtained from other sources or bartered for, I can't help but wonder how those who have nothing to barter with, or the usable skills to trade labor for food, would do if there were no waste products for them to latch onto. It's beyond sad that people live this way. In Marks case it's a choice, an experiment. For countless others, it's their only option. It maybe wasted food but it's their survival.

  • @Bunkysmom65 Food could be found elsewhere and bartered for work instead. Finding it in the dumpsters is just the easiest path and makes sense trying not to waste the food. The stores are not really helping anyone here and I am glad that Mark is using the situation to raise this serious problem in our very ill society.

  • @Bunkysmom65 I he didn't rely on waste, he would've needed to learn how to knit and mine iron ore:-) He would've needed to become a jack of all trades.

  • I heart mark boyle!

  • a very well done and informative video. As employees at a grocery store we are forced by the company to throw away tens of thousands of dollars a year worth of produce, and meat products. In just one store we throw away that much now imagine the whole world. Amazing story and reported properly.

  • I want this...love it...love hime!

  • What a smart guy! he doesn't care what others think and he won't make richer anyone:) It takes guts.

  • this is the ways lot of people live in poor contries, and even worse, im not surprise

  • DVD Please...on HOW TO GET OFF THE GRID.

    Make them NOW.

There's all these "interesting" documentaries. Fiiiiiiine. Now....tell us HOW to

    make our own food, etc.

  • I like him :)

  • Hermits have been doing it for years, nothing extroirdinary.

  • What he does is fine for him. It would work in small population centers maybe. There is a reason why the system changed though , and it isn't any conspiracy with banking. Bartering sounds great but is no longer practical.

  • respect!

  • The end is especially profound - a green grocer with his own shop would never throw out perfectly fine food. Love the wiping bum with Daily Mail. I would not be able to use a toothbrush found in a skip though.

  • was the lighter free? i assume it was

but lighters are like 50 cents here lol

  • I really like the idea of getting out of the corruption and lies. Were they dumpster diving? Didn't look like our dumpsters. Interesting vid.

  • Mr. Boyle uses United Nations buzzwords like "sustainability" "Climate change" and "peak oil.

When I hear these terms I form the conclusion that I'm listening to a pied piper.

Having said that, money is the key to our enslavement. Pied pipers always give you some truth to prepare you for the big lie. They have generally taken oaths of secrecy and obedience with secret societies.

I just tune them out. These guys are EVERYWHERE.

  • @BobbyL5757 Thats a really interesting comment but i would love to know what you base these assumptions on? Something from own experience? something you heard by friend? rumor? some conspiracy? please tell me so i just dont throw your view on this, away like thrash.

  • @BobbyL5757 Those words came from eco campaigners in the first place so Mark Boyle is reclaiming them. They were co-opted by big business and the NWO to confuse us all.

  • @BobbyL5757 Just because the government uses those things to further their agenda doesn't mean those things aren't happening. Non-governmental sustainability is a good idea for any community. The government just hijacks natural movements for control and higher taxation, but we shouldn't let that stop organic movements.
