  • @chrysanthos66 "those pots are trying to talk to us with those sounds"

    It's the Earth talking.

  • Thanks for the video because now I could share it with my friends. I have lived in the Valley all my life and have never heard of these until about 3 weeks ago. Very interesting place but very creepy. I will never go again before sundown. I thought we were going to sink into the mudd or that the ground would just collapse on us. Thanks for sharing.

  • @LOUISANUNEZ Hello Louis. Thank you for the comment.

Don't feel bad about not knowning about the mudpots. I lived on the East Coast most of my life and never visited the Statue of Liberty until the week before I moved to California.

I think you never knew about them because they are not advertised: Only in the occasional guidebook or map will you see them, or on the occasional web page.

  • I'm guessing the reason the mud pots are Grey/blue is because of the gases?. Very nice video!, the sounds are kinda creepy tho, sounds like earth....is breathing.

  • Hello Miguel.

The reason the mud pots or mounds appear blue is probably because of the (low) quality of my camera, which tends to discolor what it films.

The mounds, by the way, are sometimes referred to as "gryphons."

And yes, the phenomena in this video is very much like the Earth breathing. when you and I breathe, we exhale gases. You are listening and looking at the exhalation of gases in this video.

I was amazed at the variety of sounds these features make. True wonderment.

  • @bapyou

Okay that explains a bit, Im suprise the "owners' of that place haven't made a "healthy mud" bath place lol. You should send out newsletters to your subscribers, i almost missed these 2 new great Videos ! By the way, Marry xmas, and happy new years!!!

  • Hello again, Miguel.

You know, funny you should mention "mud baths." Someome told me that, on occasion, people have shown up at the pots & tried to take a mud bath. So the idea is nothing new.

As far as "sending out a newsletter" about my new videos: I dont make videos to be popular; I make them to post content that interests me and illustrates some of the subjects about which I teach for my students. If people find my videos and enjoy them I'm glad. If not, it is of no consequence to me.

  • @bapyou

Okay, Well just know that aside from your students, i apreciate the videos! Hopefully Next year i will have more time in my hands to do a couple of videos my self, i will be sure to link you too them. And Btw, on my way to upstate buffalo (from maryland), i saw many wind mill farms. On my way back i will try to take some pictures, they were so tall and a vast amount of them. Take care Bruce, and maybe try to enjoy a mud bath :)

  • As far as "sending out a newsletter" ... you're suppose to get a notice automatically when you subscribe to a channel. Did you get one about these videos? I get notices from my subscriptions.

Remember: If you want to make videos, get yourself a small $30 tripod.

    Peace.

  • Hello Miguel.

I wanted to follow up on your question about why the mud pots in this video appear blue. I've figured it out: My camera was set on the wrong lighting function! A stupid thing like that and I've done several videos that are all BLUE ... just because I didn't realize the damned function was set wrong! Ha! What an idiot I am!

Anyway, maybe this is a lesson to anyone reading this. Be sure to check your camera settings before taking video!

    Take care.

  • Mud volcanos also in Romania, Buzau cuonty (landscape like on the Moon), in the Sub-Carpathians Hills. "Science-Fiction movie about the hell " :-) ,great !

  • OK Andrei ... make a video of the mud volcanoes in the Sub-Carpathian Hills of Buzau County, Romania. I want to see them!

  • Great video !!!

  • Thank you !!!

  • Hey, you made it out there.....cool video.

Tons of mud there now after the rains....Hehe. I bet your floormats will need a good scraping. I like the sounds @ 5:13 . Did you feel how hot some of those vents were?

  • Hi David.

I didn't make any observations with respect to the temperature of the vents, though it's plain some are well above the boiling point.

This is one of the coolest places I've ever visited. I've known about it for years but never made the effort to go there. It's amazing they haven't fenced it & started to charge admission. Those mudpots are crying out for a comprehensive scientific study. They should be surveyed & temp. & gas data should be collected.

    What a fantastic place.
