  • WOW !

  • damn! listen to Frank's TONE!!

  • alot of good versions of this around bt i think one of my fav versions of it is live in new york version where they've got the xylophone after i heard hes on the looosee bing bing bing

  • FUCK YEAH RAY WHITE!!!!!!

  • SOUP AND OLD CLOTHES INSIDE THE SOLO COMPLETELY WONDERFUL!!!

  • It was my best time to live! frank was our master of ceremonies! In 1976, we honored him .. thank you I could see it was wonderful .. the drug is not such a fucking like today ... It was the best LSD trips ... .. red star as a main course yellow sunshine and nin-yang as a dessert than a dessert .. madness ..

  • One hell of a bunch of musicians!!

  • 5:37

frank at vocals. nothing 'bout ray, but frank's the man!!! definitely one of the best moments of music history ever!

  • Feels good ...

  • Love it !

  • This show is the first ever simulcasted concert in the world, beyond epic. Frank and band played uninterrupted for over an hour and 20 minutes of continuous "out there" music. It's a shame people today watch crap like American Idol and such, Zappa was the man for real musicians to follow and build upon. Sadly, as he has stated if there aren't lyrics dealing with love or angst no one will listen.

  • ...how fucking good was FRANK as "everything " !!!

  • Ray White!!!

  • never again will the world hear anything like uncle frank. he took all this good shit with him. i still miss him. he was like family. i cried when he died.

  • You can literally see smoke coming out of Zappa's guitar at @ 2:19. He is literally on fire!

  • @pentalway because he tucked is smoke under the string,

  • Hey f*ck off everyone ! Frank was the sh*t ! He went to college for classical guitar ! They kicked him out of college , that Juliet school of music , they said you will never be anything ! Look what he accomplished after that ? Frank rest in peace my friend ! I myself attended two of his concerts ! moon ! Dweezil , the kids know what I'm talking about ! Anyway to watch my videos if you want ? But Frank was my favorite and I saved the videos !

    Mr. Terry's neighborhood garage

  • 0:34 her face is fuckin' GOLD

  • Frank wasn't a libertarian. He thought they were insane.

  • HOLY FUCK !!! Frank was eatin' that Les Paul for all it was worth.

  • at 5:40 frank pulls his already lit cigarette out of the neck of his guitar

i heard zappa say tobacco was his favorite vegetable hahaha

  • In the early 80's Frank also was using Carvin amps & pickups, I beleive the Les Paul has Carvin pickups in it ...

  • Zappa was Canook ? Toch?

  • @rawaiiphuket nee (als ik begrijp wat canook betekent, Canadees , toch)

  • ray white is absolutely fantastic in this version, i wonder why he's so underrated, this guy is so good

  • on your knees dio ladro

  • @anyone What is that distortion called that frank is using during solo?

  • @GhostOfMorrison "Frank’s late ’70s sunburst Les Paul ... was modified as well, of course. The original pickups were replaced with Seymour Duncans (according to Dweezil) or DiMarzios (on the Shut Up ’n Play Yer Guitar sleevenotes), plus another in-built Dan Armstrong Green Ringer octave/fuzz circuit, and a rotary switch with coil tapping options, and an XLR output jack. The Les Paul was also fitted with a mini-toggle switch to flip between series and parallel operation."

  • @UTubeIsTrackingYou It will be difficult to figure out exactly what Frank is using on any given song, he is noted for having complex tone setups. There is obviously a flanger/phaser being used on that solo as well. for more insight check out the YouTube video "In the Studio with... Dweezil Zappa" on the GuitarWorld channel.

  • @GhostOfMorrison I'm not sure but it might be this thing (and maybe something else?) "There's one thing a guy named Bob Easton constructed for me called the Electro Wagnerian Emancipator. It's avery attractive little device that combines a frequency follower with a device that puts out harmony notes to what you're playing." the quote is from a 77 interview with guitar player. Hope it helps

  • The reason I laugh my ass off at this song....lo,l...

It's like Frank is endorsing this kind of behavior.......

Like we should all go out and pump people full of juice......

  • @BARRIEMOREBARLOW yeah sure why not

  • The "Soup N Old Clothes" riff was a nice touch at the end of the solo

  • Wow back when MTV was worth a shit

  • forward to 2:16, and let it rip!

  • Posted this VID on my FB Wall....with this cute little comment. "Here I sit..broken hearted, try to merde, but only farted. Maybe I need an Enema"?--- then added that classic photo of FZ sittin' on the can!

  • Great song! I saw Zappa in 1981!

  • F.Z. RULES

  • The Genius, the family and his disciple!!!!

    Just wanderful

    Great Jimmy at the voice

  • I wonder what Frank would say about the music industry today?

  • Comment removed

  • @mrgb46 hed be like WTF my 3 year old can do this lol

  • @mrgb46 I don't think it's really that different in essence from what it was back then. Shame shit, different flies.

  • @mrgb46 the music industry today can kiss zappa's ass.

  • @uygar10ur So true.Frank was a true original and no one will ever come close to what he has done.Today's music is bubblegum pop that is too safe. All flash and no substance..Frank was way ahead of his time.

  • @mrgb46 nothing good thats for sure

  • @mrgb46 I am quite sure he would say " wha6t a bunch of garbage".....

  • goose bumps ... it's so awesome

  • Chad

  • 4 viewers were victims of the actual Bandit (so I guess you can't really blame 'em)

  • @vonbontee Victims or recipients ?

  • This, and "Titties and Beer", just DO IT for me!

  • ZAPPA FOREVER...WE LOVE YOU FRANK! RIP DUDE

  • favoloso... so long

  • we have 3 Republicans here!!! Democrats don't like freedom fo expression

  • Frightening but true, having lived in the town where this happened!!!! An Enema Bandit! go figure!

  • It's the same singer!!!!

  • wow this guy sucks compared to the live in new york singer. but i mean that guy sounded godly, and its hard to sing smoothly

  • I love this Song my Favorite version is the one is on Zappa Live in New York in 1977

This song actually awoke my interrest in Blues Rock

Ray Whites vocals are amazing here and Zappa guitar tone is one of the weirdest and dirtiest i ever heard him play

I think its almost impossible to copy that tone only Dweezil could do that

  • grazie a mio padre, che mi ha fatto conoscere Frank Zappa...

  • pink clothing was de riguer in the eighties..also is steve vai's tongue synced with the editing suite by SYMPTE or is he a dog?

  • gee mr hat i sure hope nobody forcefully enemas me

  • It's a true story, which might have been forgotten had FZ not written this epic tribute.

If the title scares some people away, reality must really be a shock-a-minute form of mindbuggery.

  • the title scares people away fom a great jam.i saw this in 77 high on peyote, changed my life

  • frank will allways be my favrit zappa brother hood share

  • Song is about Illinois Governor Pat Quinn (D)

  • He just be pumpin' every one of 'em up with the bag fulla

    Illinois Enema Bandit Juice

He just be pumpin' every one of 'em up with the bag fulla

    Illinois Enema Bandit Juice

Ray White... man that shit ain't easy to sing 6 times in a row

not everyone realizes this is a true story about Michael Kenyon, a robber who liked to give his female victims enemas, which was not illegal in Illinois at the time.

  • Good God, that is incredible.

  • I love how his songs context could be so funny but his musical work so concentrated and serious.

  • Oh i remember hearing this for the first time on a cold late Dec night 1977 in NYC at the Palladium with Don Pardo.

  • who do I gotta kill to sing like Ray here?

  • College educated girls everywhere take note.....

A call out to my friend K. in Memphis, ex Berkeley, CA....

    ;-P

  • Great to see Timothy McVeigh rocking out on the drums there.

  • quite possibly the finest song ever written

  • so young, so naive... somebody should have told Vai, that's the last good music he''ll play in his life... 3:)))

  • Ray White!

  • very very very nice zappa´s the best

  • ZAPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • I'm guessin he's from St.Charles..

  • höre Zappa seit über 30 Jahre, werde ihn wohl nochmal solange hören.

  • I am 63, and so thankfull that i was young when the finest bands and musicians were playing, and got to see a lot of them. Youtube gives me the chance to revisit my heroes, and for a while, i am young again.

  • GREAT !! but the video freezes......:-/

  • Looks like the guitar on the cover of Shut Up

  • Ray White !

  • It was fucking EPIC when he grabbed his ciggarette and the takes off his guitar at 5:40 after doing work on that solo!

  • Up there with Nig Biz as my favourite Ray White vocals. Simply fuckin' amazing.

  • Immortal!

  • Only could Frank Zappa write a song about an enema bandit and have it seriously kick ass.

  • Juhuu! Ich bin der 85oooste Aufrufer! Und a supa clip, thx.

  • the crime of administering an unforeseen ennema to a co-ed carries the death penalty in several states so just watch out

  • i think this was very futuristic , it should have had me thinking of enemas back then allready

  • I see we have 3 republicans here!

  • @mkultra138

I've been a Zappa fan and a Republican since before you were a twinkle in your mommas eye.

  • @mkultra138

Tipper Gore's a Republican? I'm conservative and have partied with Jimmy Carl Black. HA!!

  • @mkultra138 hey all americans love the blues

  • @mkultra138 @ :16, there's the Illinois Enema Bandit, you know hes on the loose.

  • @mkultra138 4 now.

  • @mkultra138 frank was a conservative lol

  • @gillnackel248 actually a libertarian. I think he disliked both parties, and rightfully so

  • @mkultra138 great joke! I forgot that only republicans don't like Zappa.

  • bestes konzert ever

  • i think the effect is a Octavia. Search for Roger Mayer Octavia.

  • what effect does is he using at 4:20.

he uses the same effect on a live version of Yo Mama

  • @Fender61 Sounds like a very slow paced chorus / flanger or a combination of them

  • @Fender61 it lso sounds like soup and old close from shut and play yer guitar

  • @Fender61 To me it sounds like his Green Ringer. He had them built into his LP and SGs. It's sort of a blend between a ring modulator and and octavia with a very unique middle eastern-ish sound.

  • @Luff2808 U gotta luff ur sh!t!

  • @Fender61 well it may be at 420 but frank dident smoke weed lol its 420 here tho lolololol

  • Nice phasing guitar solo. Like to hear that on accoustic.

  • Absolutely killer! Please don't skip a second of this song. Great extended solo by Zappa, Chad Wackerman on drums looks like he's 13, a 21yo Steve Vai and a simply amazing vocal performances by Ray White.

  • @taez555 hell yeah this kicks ass i have it on dvd zappa brothers unite

  • @taez555 hell yeah the best ever

  • @taez555 Thanks a lot! I didn't know Ray White, nor can spot Vai really, but Zappa just is..just what popular music needed to be taken seriously :D Nothing really happened after Jazz broke it big time at the 30's.. not that any Zappa liveband could emulate any music style there is or isn't. The greatest conductor of all times, if he swings You better know if You have to swing along or do the counter rhythm as he intended, Zappa loved great musicians and gave space to enyone challenging him.

  • @taez555

Chad is 23 years here i guess

i know you were only jokeing

    Steve Vai might be 19

I saw Ray White 2007 with Dweezil Zappa and Ray still has these amazing Vocals

  • @musicisthebestF vai was 21 during this recording.

  • When I listen to this song now... for some odd reason... I think of Sarah Palin.

  • guitar solo starts at 2:18 if you want to skip the stupic lyrics :)

  • best version of this classic !

  • Zappa said,

You monkeys stand in the back and let me play a 5 minute guitar solo.

A guitarist's dream! Way to go Zappa.

  • tops

  • lol at the girl at :36. She's like.. "What the fuck are they singing about? Did I just come to this concert?"

  • HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Miss you FZ!

  • I like the Soup and Old Clothes vamp starting at 4:18.

  • Zappa's wearing a NY Yankee hat in the end, and it was October, just after the Dodgers beat the Yanks in six games. Go Frank! Your fans miss you.

  • the camera men deserved Oscars!!

  • I love that black guy hes so good at singing and playing guitar. Zappa should have kept him in the band longer.

  • @Guitarstring187

    I agree! :)

But my fav will always be Napoleon Murphy Brock, he is really talented and a very cool sax player.

I loved the 2006 tour with Dweezil and Napoleon and the rest of ZPZ :)

  • @LeifJohan hes really good to i think i actully like him better.

  • Lookin' for some rustic co-ed rump that he just might want to pump.

  • @Shali2707 Aperently ive had a run in with the Illinois enema band....I herd i herd hes on the loose.

  • dum dududu dum dududu dum deng dääääääää dum dudu dum däng däää da da da da dadaaa - This is a true Storry!!!!!!!!!!

  • Loving this Video

  • the really slow flanger makes it sound like his amps on fire!!!

  • Ray White!

  • words cannot describe how awesome this guitar solo is...

  • Zappa plays blues tribute to Michael Kennyon...His name lives on forever in this true story.

  • "He just be pumpin' every one of 'em up with all the bag fulla..." isn't that a hell of a tongue twister!?

  • frank makes that guitar talk....

  • I believe they were anticipating Blagovich!

  • Did they know back than that Obama would come to the front??? R I P......FRANK

  • Anybodey no what tjme it is its 4;20 LOLOLolol

  • Great quality!

  • I go to other bands like Claptin Fogertey Pink Flod and other populer bands, and i talk about Zappa maybe some close minds will open its hard to open a closed mind. Some of my frends will here this or another jaming Zappa tune and say they dont like it because ther not lisning there not even hereing it if they here a tune and i dont tell them who it they like it A.H.

  • That is the craziest flange tone.

  • i love the flange on his lead part!

  • @jonwawa the flange was added in post production

  • @MrMariodave - it sounds like it ......me likes it :)

  • @jonwawa well i don´t like it

  • Zappa's solo is simply great.

  • The woman in the audience at :35 looks a lot like Melanie Griffith!

  • Pretty sure that's Janet the Planet, Mrs. Denny Walley

  • This is the true "alternative"... right up there with Tom Waits, Primus, etc. Too bad record companies are only interested in dollars...the music should come first! It is called the "music" business, not the "business" business!

  • Does anyone else notice that around 4:20.. drum, bass and keyboard start playning this repeating tune? It's the same as the backing music on 'Soup 'N Old Clothes' from the Shut Up 'N Play Yer Guitar Album... Actually I just found out that 'Soup 'N Old Clothes' IS a solo from The Illinois Enema Bandit, but from a version performed in Santa Monica, December 11, 1980 ... really interesting

  • Wow! That's really cool. You really are a zapphead. I'll be sure to check it out.;)

  • ahhhh, soup ´n old clothes, greaaat solo, great base!! that special link between drum and bass...i heard it in some others songs. But i never associated that with the illinois enema bandit. thanks.

  • yees, i´ve just heard it. thats the very base, with flute sound and everything.

  • @bramverbeek2 Your are defenitley right soup and old clothes im 50 ive intoZAPPA since i was 14 i heard a lot of other bands before Frank but i got hookd

  • @bramverbeek2 Now i realize since u pointed that out songs have there own title and so does music like St. Alfonzo Ruth underwood played Rolo her pice was calld Rolo.

  • @bramverbeek2 man i´m pretty surprised by that, how can someone know all those details

  • Wackerman is great, but Bozzio played the hell out of this song on the Live album.

  • There'll never be anyone as creative and out there as FZ ever again. RIP

  • The best band you never heard.....

  • Ike Willis, sorry other dude

  • @letorch

search ike willis elio on you tube... ;-)

  • awesome blues with strange lyrics.... pure Frank Zappa R.I.P

  • It must be just what they all need

  • viva mexico viva frank zappa

  • id rather listen to zappa solo over steve vai any day. I like steve but i just totally love zappas rocked out tone

  • cos frank is betta steve vai is good but he isnt close to frank

  • is the illinois enema bandit John Travolta(i swear that dude earlier in this looked liked him)

  • It's about Michael Kenyon.

He was an actual enema bandit who'd force his female victims to a, um... "back-door washout". But who knows, John Travolta might be more related than we think!

  • @tracksabbath29 haha ;D

  • I could listen to him solo all day

  • 00000000000000000000

  • A master. I am proud to say that I saw him several times.

  • think it's the 29th or 30th show?
