The game tries to paint things in shades of gray with war being hell and both sides being just normal people. But it's tough to make you feel sympathy for the other side when this is the first thing you see them do, with much worse things happening later on.

also, small scouting teams dont attack, they just scout the terrain and avoid combat as much as possible to be able to report back.

If you play the game, they mention that all students receive military training at their schools. A good policy when the entire continent is at war and you're an unallied neutral country.

You cant really speed up the tank, just be more careful with your action bar since just turning the tank decreases it.

There's inspiration from France, certainly. Take the Gallian colors, for example: red, blue, and white. The Mulberry invasion is best based off of the Normandy invasion (D-Day). The forested levels are a lot like the Ardennes, which are located in France and Belgium. There are plenty of inspirations from different countries if you look hard enough.

I think it's best to assume Gallia is a mix of all the archetypical little European countries who like peace but end up getting war.

There are many of us that DO care a lot about the game's story. If you don't like it you can either skip the story parts or simply watch a speed run of the game.

According to the plot, Gallia has a national policy of Conscription for it's citizens both male n female by the age of 15. So basically he already had military training since he was drafted b4 going 2 university.

Also even with training its not easy for most people to kill even if its for your life. And from the protagonist's personality you'd think this would leave some mental affects afterwords.

How do you think people in the game shrug off a bullet to the face, requiering multiple shots like that to kill them?

It's simply like how in a cutscene one random shot can kill you, but in a gamefight you only take some HP damage

Although for a game that delves so deep into characters emotion youd think Welkins would be going all emo or depressed from his ending of many human lives.

These sorts of hardships are something most anime protagonist must face during their adventures and it adds growth.

This game is very similar to an anime so which is why I'm comparing it to one.

And it's totally revolutionary for a turn based stratagy game. No movement grid, no direction placement, and you can use the same character again if you chose. TOTALLY SUPERIOR TO OPERATION DARKNESS! THAT GAME SUCKED DONKEY DICK! Grid movement, bad graphics, and if a story character died, you faild the mission!
