Why are there so few whales in todays world? Not because of a few Greenlanders needing food. It's because in the 1800's Americans lit their homes with Whale oil. Ships from Nantucket searched the oceans looking for whales. Records indicate thousands and thousands of whales being killed by ships from the eastern seaboard. Only when the supply started drying up did we start lighting our homes with other energy sources. Greenlanders didn't make the Whale endangered- we did.

The Inuit live above the Arctic Circle were its too cold to grow crops. So, their main food comes from the sea. There are few restaurants in Greenland- and few stores (most are over priced and poorly stocked)so the majority of people lead a subsistence lifestyle- which they've done for thousands of years. I saw a program where Asian fishermen had hooked sharks, and cut their fins off, then through the live body back into the ocean. The video was of the shark dying to the end. That's cruel and a waste.
