I have a true love 4 splash cymbals also-they're great 4 accents & soft crashing which i do a lot of--they r my signature on the kit & they have given me my identity as a player--Im a Sabian guy now--but I still have my 6" & 8" A Splashes from my Zildjian days-they're awesome :)
Thanks so much for posting the full video! I had this on a VHS tape after buying a couple of Zildjan cymbals back in the early 90s. I lost the video and couldn't find it in its entirety since then.
The china stabs he plays at 13:36 are sooo tasteful! Anyone else slightly annoyed at the way he plays his ride bell, playing it from the palm side of his hand rather than the back, if you know what I mean. Really don't see a lot of drummers play that way.
A great example of musicality over technique! As a piano player and composer, Manu has a great sense of melody and rhythm. He's also got some fine and creative chops. But more than anything it's about his groove and all those taste notes he throws in between. This is from a Zildjian cymbals video from some years back. And that's Ian Croft, now editor of web mag. i-Drum.
FYI, I've almost always seen Manu use a K crash (and smaller straight A), and an A Ping Ride (except for some of his more recent European jazz stuff, where he'll sometimes use a lighter ride). I guess Zildjian was trying to push the 'new' A Customs when this video was made? Haha.
