  • WHAT IF REASON ISN'T IN THE DEVICES MENU???

  • Thank you man!

  • Hi thanks for the tutorial! I have a question. Can I rewire reason into Cubase and still record in reason? Because when I do the rewiring, I have to do the recordings all on Cubase. When I try to record on reason, nothing comes out. Thanks!

  • I've got a veeeeeery annoying problem. Whenever I rewire my Reason 5 into my Cubase 5, at appears to have worked just fine. Everything works exactly as it should until I hit play on the transport of either program. Everything in the Reason sequencer plays slightly before Cubase, so everything is completely off. It's like they're not synced up correctly or something. Does anybody know why it's doing this?

  • @TheSoundCenter I know it may sound like an odd question but have you checked that both of the tempo's are matched? cubase opens up naturally set onto 120 bpm which could be throwing your set up if your slave prog is set differently, also sometimes cubase forgets start /end points so when you open both drag over all the tracks in cubase and press P this should highlight all the tracks in cubase and give you a start and end time if it's changed in your slave just correct it, hope that helps

  • Respond to this video... also it may be an idea to try and match your sample rates in both programes just to make sure that they are comunicating properly, a pain I know, but they don't always do as they are told...again hope that was some help

  • @LeonPhythian69 I tried what you suggested, but it didn't work. Thank you for the reply, though. And the sample rates are matched. I figured out how to work around it. It turns out if everything starts at bar 2 in both programs they stay in sync. Also if loop is on during playback when it loops back to the left marker they sync up for whatever reason. Not exactly fixed, but moving everything up to the second bar is no big deal.

  • thanks dude, I totally forgot how to do this!

  • Ok please help this is driving me crazy reason is not showing up as a device in the devices tab and i cant get reason to turn in to a slave i am running reason 4 and cubase le5 maybe there are limitations on my software thanks alot guys.

  • dude you got a nice voice.

  • Gracias loco!

    genio!

  • thanks :D

  • I don't know what I have done, but... when I go to Devices>Reason ReWire, I get the message ""Can not use Reason. Close Reason and try again". Any ideas how to get it working back? Maybe I have the wrong settings in Reason, although is in Rewire mode. Really in trouble for a project I'm doing... thanks in advance!

  • @Smorphine Just close both. Then start again

  • @Smorphine I had that problem too, and so far I have found nothing to solve it (not even CyHum3z's EXTREMELY helpful tip). I'll keep you posted if I sort it though!

  • @MrHathouse Solidarity! :)) Which was CyHum3z's advice? THanks a lot. I will post here the answer, if I find it... some day.

  • @Smorphine He/she said "Just close both. Then start again". That didn't seem to waork :L Mine is working fine now; I don't think I changed anything, but I did restart the computer a couple of times for updates to install so maybe that affected it somehow. It's very strange :L Anyway good luck!

  • @MrHathouse Thanks. Somehow I got it working too. :D

  • ahhh this is amazing :D! thanks :)

  • THANKS!!! IT WAS VERY USEFUL!!!

  • sweet video it helped me alot

  • hello thanks for this :) I have a little question, i guess you cant rewire the MIDI input? instead of analog audio.. and when played it will play through Reason... like a VST.

  • helps alot.. appreciate you

  • im using cubase 5, i did wat janjmusic suggested and what others have also said about releasing the thing in the background. cubase still does not respond with anything in the devices section regarding cubase or guitar rigg. please help

  • thanks for the great walk thru, its so much easier when you have a voice telling you as well as visuals!!!!!!!

  • cubase mixed with reason owns :PPP

  • but how i can save this rewire thing?

  • This was great and necessary for a noob like me, thanks a lot. Just an advice if you're getting an "Engine not responding" error when opening Reason:

    1. Ensure that Reason is not running

    2. Launch Cubase

    3. Open Device Setup from the Cubase Devices menu.

    4. Select VST Audio System in the left frame.

    5. Deselect "Release driver when Application is in Background" checkbox in the right frame of the window.

  • Yo, great tutorial. I used it a few months ago and everything worked fine. Now, however, when I go through these processes a message comes up saying "MIDI inputs problem" and that they're being used by another program. Which they are- Cubase, but I never had this problem before and I've done the same thing as I did last time. It won't let me manually select them either, it just tells me the same thing. It works fine standalone though. Any ideas?

  • How can I use ezdrummer and reason? I don't know how!!

  • Hey, I got everything working, but how to I get the reason sound to go through my soundcard?

  • @tblundell123 Go to preferences and select your new soundcard

  • How U Record The Audio from reason or any other slave In to Cabase??? I Need Some Help On That

  • thanks bro

  • does the same process work with cubase 5?

  • Thanks For the info!

  • dude you saved my ass ha. I have a test on rewire monday morning and i was clueless till now...

  • good looking didnt no that. how do i fix the delay?

  • was fuzzy on the channeling, thanks for the vid.

  • I have reason 2.5 and it doesn't seem to work, rewire light is not activated in reasons, and cubase le does not have reasons in menu window.

  • Great tutorial. This is going to help me big time when I start adding analog vocoder sounds to my Reason projects. Kudos!

  • Now what if Reason doesn't appear under devices? I also can't select the ReWire option in Reason 3. Anyone?

  • same issue here and its pissing me off!!!!! did u ever find a way to fix this

  • When i try to open reason while cubase is running it says "Can not open Reason engine." Please reinstall to make sure that the Reason engine is properly installed. Someone please let me know why this is doing this?? Thanks, Ben

  • thanks for the video man great tutorial really helped me out!

  • woooow.. great vid

  • hi

i get an error when i try to launch reason:

    Engine not responding

    please check your rewire host

    can you help me?

  • Try enabling reason channels in cubase before you launch reason

  • When i open reason i get an error message stating a midi input problem. Because of this I can't run instruments with my midi controller. I can run the redrum and mix it down and save the track, but i can't add anything like a keyboard. Can anyone help me?

  • thanks for the video man... what happend when u save the cubase session .. when u open it the next time is it going to call up reason already patched and stuff?

  • Yup

  • I get an error with Reason when I start it. It says "Engine not responding

    Please check your re-wire host"

  • Thanks for watching!?!? Shit! Thanks for the post!!!

  • Brilliant THX

  • I'm SO glad I came across your video...the lack of a record button on the Cubase rewire channel was confusing me, I didn't know that the reason track would be mixed down without recording. Thanks a million.

  • Sorry for the TYPO. After you Click Apply Click OK.

  • Excellent Video keep them coming.RoofBoys to solve your problem when it says Can Not Run Reason, Close Reason Try Again.1st open Cubase then Click DEVICES.Then Click Devices set up Click VST AUDIO BAY,THEN UNCHECK REALEASE ASIO DRIVER in back ground. click apply then click on. NOW OPEN REASON And you will finally see the Rewire ICON lite and make some MUSIC.

  • it dosen't work man?

Its says: Can not use Reason, Close Reason and try again. Its says in cubase. help?

  • I had the same problem: Make sure Reason is not started when you start Cubase! Then it worked for me.

  • Thanks man :)

  • Thanks man! This is exactly what I needed.

  • Cheers man. Good tutorial, I know a fair amount about music tech but cubase had me stumped. This tutorial just told me everything I needed to know to get started. Thanks

  • Great tutorial. Definitely missed the reason link buried in the devices menu. Thanks for that.

  • ok, i open cubase, then reason (before cubase is opened, my usb midi keyboard is already plugged in). my keyboard works automatically in Reason if its the only program; after i open it, it works in cubase, not reason, and when i try to use the Reason tab in cubase's device menu, it says "Cannot use Reason. Close Reason and try again." Still doesn't work. any advice?

  • Unfortunately at this time Cubase only allows you to rewire one stereo track. Basically channels 1/2. Supposedly Cubase will have multiple stereo inputs in the future, but as far as I know even in Cubase 4 this isn't possible. A workaround though is to do a mixdown of either channels 3/4 or 5/6 as a stereo mix. This will allow you to pan around and add stereo effects to that track. Kind of a pain but it works.

  • what about recording?

  • @JanJmusic Does this mean that the different sounds used from Reason in Cubase cannot be managed separately in Cubase (volume control for instance)?

  • Here mate, maybe you can tell me, is it possible to make channels 3/4 or 5/6 route into one stereo channel in Cubase, or they have to remain as 2 mono tracks?

  • You can actually do it either way. Personally I sequence my synth and drum loops in reason then rewire that a single channel into Cubase. The downside to this is you can't apply Cubase effects to individual Reason tracks. I instead rely on Reason effects for Reason tracks.

The alternative approach would be to rewire each individual instrument from Reason into Cubase and activate a Rewire channel for each one. This way you can sequence your tracks in Cubase and add Cubase effects to Reason Tracks

  • Hey I wanted to know if you sequence your track in cubase after you rewire to reason or you just sequence in reason and then send it to cubase.
