The reason that this game was not included in "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection" is because this was not a Genesis game. This was for the SEGA CD even though they did include some bonus games for the Master System. This would have been interesting to have a bonus game, but I think SEGA wanted to keep this game more rare. It always has been a rare game. Sonic CD is my all time favorite Sonic game, out of the whole franchise. In my opinion the JAP/EU version of the soundtrack was better thanUS

The Sega CD didn't have the best library--but Sonic CD, Rise of the Dragon, Final Fight CD, Sega Arcade 5 in 1, SimEarth, Eternal Champions, Shining CD, and the far superior versions of the Ecco games were among their greatest efforts as a first-party (Phantasy Star 4 was originally made for the CD as well). There were a few good third-party games, namely the Lunar series, Robo Aleste, Soul Star, Snatcher, EA Sports and Earthworm Jim. Plus, it was also a CD player, the first for many kids.
The UK/JAP version soundtrack is much better than the USA soundtrack imo, the jap/euro music was a bonus i got in the collectors edition of sonic generations.
This review made me buy this on XBLA it's awesome :D Got all the achievements now so happy! This was a sonic game I never played as a kid so it was a new sonic game (For me) from back when sonic was good!

All of the handheld games have been good; the Sonic RPG by Bioware, Smash Bros Brawl with Sonic, Sonic's Ultimate Collection, Sega and Sonic Racing, Sonic 4, and Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations are great. The Rush games are Sonic at his best. I'll admit that there were about four years of relatively bad console games, and none of the games since the 16-bit era are quite the same, but it's not exactly a series that's dead.

Sonic CD is hard to find. There is only three formats i can find the game. There is one for the PC, Nintendo Game Cube, and Now Xbox 360 has it for a download for the arcade. I have the Sega CD version but it's scratched up and the system is broke. The Sega CD systems break was to easy and that's what i hate about the system add on. It would be nice if someone made a retro Sega CD system that can play the Sega dreamcast back to the first Sega CD.
@CloudTheTank I would adore one of those and you could emulate Genesis/Megadrive, Master System and Gamegear and most likely 32x from a DC so you would be SEGASET.

i believe your information is inaccurate on its rarity its on sonic gems collection which can be got for the gamecube and various other consoles i think and a enhanced version was just recently put on steam for the pc however i beilive finding a older version for the sega cd console would be rather difficult
@urollx No Sonic Gems is only for the Gamecube. And this review was written 2 years before the enhanced version you mentioned came out. However, Sonic Gems isn't that hard to get if you you have a Gamecube (Or Wii), so yeah Sonic CD really wasn't that rare even then.
@Bonzardo A little correction about Sonic Gems, it is not Gamecube only, it's also avaible for the PS2, but it just came out only for Japan and Europe.
Most overrated Sonic game ever. There is some fun to be had for sure, but it can't touch Sonic 1,2, 3 and Knuckles. The level design is atrocious, it takes all the motivation to explore the zones away. I also don't like having to travel back in time each stage and the spin dash sucks. Good music, mostly good graphics are the positives.
@Number1StarSB Sonic 2 is the best sonic that game keeps you on your toes and challenges you the whole game and will take many countless hours of gaming to master the emerald runs and unlock super sonic which is a big help in the later levels though you still have to master the last two bosses.

@MegaKid1999 Because of the "feel" it has. Time travelling adds a lot to the game. You can either explore or dash through. Saving the future on every level makes it feel very special - seeing how depending on you the future is bright and pretty or dark, dirty and depressing.
The European/Japanese version has a STELLAR soundtrack to it where past and future themes are great remixes of the present songs. And the levels are HUGE. It's like taking Sonic 2 and upping it to N.

Just to say that Sega has now made this game more publicly accessible with Sonic Gems Collection and the iOS version. But a true Sonic fan should get the original copy, in my opinion.
The reason why you like the 'past' music tracks best is because they are the only Japanese tracks included in the US version of the game. The Japanese version of the game includes awesome music for all 4 time zones! Great review, best one for this game I've seen on the web.
32X had a better library? There were only 34 games on 32X, compared to over 200 on Sega CD! It had the best platformer ever Sonic CD, the ground-breaking Snatcher, Lunar 1 & 2, Final Fight CD as the best version on a console, Earthworm Jim CD, Mickey Mania, MUSHA sequel Robo Aleste, and Shining Force CD. And Soul Star, SEGA Arcade 5-in-1, Ecco 1-2, Vay, SimEarth, Mortal Kombat CD, Spiderman vs Kingpin, Thunderhawk, EA Sports, Dark Wizard, Eternal Champions (9/10 from Game Informer), ect.

I always found the Metal Sonic race to be absurdly difficult compared to the rest of the game. Luckily Sega realized this and put a 1-up screen at the beginning of the boss stage.
I'm sure there are easier ways to finding this game, but it was also available for the PC (it was also included as a pack-in game for Packard Bell PCs in the US)

And there's also another soundtrack to sonic cd which you did not say in the video it's called the japanese version and if any of know this mark guy tell him about the Japanese soundtrack and tell him he to review it. It is available in the apple app store which makes it more easy to find and it also has the us soundtrack (which was in this video but I still like this video. It makes ME want to put out a reiview for sonic cd but only with the Japanese soundtrack which in my opinion the Japanese

@eacy7deacy Yeah Sonic Gems is Gamecube only. I found it the other day for five bucks and Sonic CD is the best thing on it. The other games are cool but I'm not sure "gems" is the right way to describe them. That being said, It is nice to have the game gear titles on the big screen since the SMS ports are expensive and my GG is a piece of broke down crap.

The ps3 release came out! It's a wonderful remastered version of Sonic CD with the addition of "Tails" as the hidden character. It has to be reviewed soon before another reviewer does!!

The reason why you like the 'past' music tracks best is because they are the only Japanese tracks included in the US version of the game. The Japanese version of the game includes awesome music for all 4 time zones! Great review, best one for this game I've seen on the web.

32X had a better library? There were only 34 games on 32X, compared to over 200 on Sega CD! It had the best platformer ever Sonic CD, the ground-breaking Snatcher, Lunar 1 & 2, Final Fight CD as the best version on a console, Earthworm Jim CD, Mickey Mania, MUSHA sequel Robo Aleste, and Shining Force CD. And Soul Star, SEGA Arcade 5-in-1, Ecco 1-2, Vay, SimEarth, Mortal Kombat CD, Spiderman vs Kingpin, Thunderhawk, EA Sports, Dark Wizard, Eternal Champions (9/10 from Game Informer), ect.

They had LISTS on the counter of all the games and systems in the stores it, was an adventure to see what you can find, and it was fun shopping there. I always found the Metal Sonic race to be absurdly difficult compared to the rest of the game. Luckily Sega realized this and put a 1-up screen at the beginning of the boss stage.

@jvdthwip Oh I know, Knuckles Chaotix was one of the absolute best Sonic games around! I never owned a 32X, but I was lucky enough to play it at my cousin's house, since he got it and a few games after Sega started slashing prices
