  • there were no squeels or high pitched screams on tattooo fuck that

  • Just downloaded the entire new 'album' and will be giving the entire thing a fresh listen throughout the day.

Been hearing rumors that the tunes are old demos and unreleased tunes from 'back in the day'.

    Any confirmation of this?

  • @TangoSpiceCompany You're going to dig it my friend!!! You're right - some are reworks from back in the day and some are new, but overall, (with the exception of 'Tattoo'- still my opinion), I think every song KICKS ASS! It feels like a stew of: Fair Warning and Women and Children First, with a little VH-I & VH-II spice mixed in. ENJOY!

  • @mentorsofmetal So far so good, all the tracks are worthy of being played very loud.

Sad to say that it would have been better to hear 'Tattoo' without watching that sad video, may not seem like such a POS song.

Some things ya just can't unsee...

  • These guys did some proper ass kicking trax..'Aint talkin bout love,Light up the sky,Hang em high in the early days ... Hot for teach.. Mine all mine, etc. But they could do gorgeous melodic stuff too.. Little guitars,Women in love etc with the same apparent ease. I love both styles. This just sounds like its stayin safe in the middle ... Not really provoking any feeling or emotion. Im a big fan of VH AND DLR.. I just wish they would of pushed a bit harder,..maybe taken more time and delivered.

  • Hey dude, b4 you spend 6 minutes critiquing a new song from an Iconic band like Van Halen, know what the actual album title is! It's funny hearing you say that "1984" was too commercial so to speak lol! You were in diapers my man. What is too commercial anyway? that's all so called die hard fans of any band wanna spit out." Metallica went commercial, Van Halen, etc"... Hey, if the tunes were shitty, they wouldn't get any air play! bcause the mass likes it, it's labeled commercial! ridiculous!

  • @stratstan Hey Dickhead... b4 you spend 6 minutes responding to an online critique, make sure your response is accurate. Never assume (you know what comes next), but since you're a little slow, let me help you out. First of all, I was born in 1968 (I'm pretty sure that gives me enough years to talk about '1984' and how commercial it was. Second it's not about whether the music was good or not. I'm speaking from the standpoint of a "true" Van Halen fan (you wouldn't understand).

  • Nice shirt! I own the same one. Bought my at Target for $10 a few years ago. It's not a official Van Halen shirt though so the band makes no profit off of it!

  • Also “Tattoo” has also earned the title of #1 Most Played Song at Classic Rock Radio in its 1st week and the No 1 Most Added song at Mainstream and Active Rock Radio and #1 on the Billboard Charts Hard Rock Singles

  • didnt like it at first was questioning myself if they could do it again? but hearing all the sampling from the other tracks im very confident to say they did it "As I" Blood and Fire" Stay Frosty""You And Your Blues" prove just that easily and i am really digging Tattoo now its great since they went out with 1984 some people put there expectations to high to top that album which is not possible you cant go beyond perfect

  • Tattoo is NOT a song I can roll down the windows and crank......

  • The video and song completely sucks balls! I've given it a chance, but this is like Metallica trying to still be Metallica...... it can't be done.

  • JUST LISTEN AND DON'T WATCH. IT'S WAY BETTER...TRUST ME

  • dave? who is that?

  • chickin foot! is sammy! van halen is EDDIE! WTF people

  • look, Eddie van halen is the man! Alex played a part as well. time changes everything,The thing to remember is what Eddie did then and thats THAT! He was and IS the badest man on the planet! There is no one that can play like him before or sence!! SO pick your battles!!! Hendrix? steveie Ray? there are more but,you watch Eddie do his solo. He owns the damn thing!

  • Tattoo, what do I think, It sucks!...DLR needs to be dumped his time has come and is for ever gone. VH 1978-1984 is epic but long over...

If there were any salvation for Van Halen reunion it would be with Sammy and Mike, Eddy and Alex. Hands down today they could do it.OU812, 5150, Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, Balance all great work after Dave.

Van Halen moved forward with Sammy and now backwards with Dave and Ed's son whom isn't even close to Mike Anthony's tallent. Van Halen is over!

  • @JBL8863 Things do change with time moron, it doesn't sound bad, and if you don't like to watch DLR dance, then don't watch, just listen. If you have any ears for music, they still have it, and will be good and will get better. As for Wolgang, he's no Michael Anthony, but his rythm is there and he also will get better. Just listen!

  • @momofmoto No one can reinvent the wheel...Early Van Halen was the wheel and that magic worked. As for them today they don't have time to get better. They have been playing long enough as musicians to be able to deliver.

The only part of this song I like is comming from boh Eddy and ALex guitar & drums....Too much sound edditing done to the backing vocals...DLR still can't sing, he never really could even byears ago..Backing V are over edit and sound artifical. It don't sound like them.

  • meh, looks and sounds like they're trying too hard. Alex and Eddie, beg plead and grovel to get Sammy and Michael back, NOW!

  • This was a review?

  • Ya, um 1984 is a Diamond selling album. Everyone bought it. And if you were a big VH fan, you would know Ed told us not to expect a 'beat your head against the wall' kind of album. Overall, lame review.

  • I have gotten use to the song and it's sounds good. Listen to the lyrics there are emotions to it and when Dave talked about it, it made sense to me. Hey their are more songs to hear and bullethead is one of them

  • How old was this twat when 1984 came out? Probably in diapers.

  • @bicycleseat1 16 fuckface... you were 12.

  • @mentorsofmetal I Agree with you completely. Luckily, 6 of the New songs are from their 1976 Demos reworked. If you wanna hear something that ROCKS, check this out.

  • @mentorsofmetal

Zen Kura The Warning (on Youtube)

  • We've all got opinions ,we are all entitled to them, we all want and expect different things out of the bands we loved when we were younger, and that is fair enough also! I became a fan of this band at the age of 11 with Van Halen 1.This new tune does not personally dissuade me in any way from remaining a fan. Is it their best tune ever? Nope. Is it in the top 5 or ten? Nope. But it is not a bad tune in any way in my opinion. It SOUNDS like a V H song and that is the most important thing to me.

  • What everyone is missing is that the LYRICs r brilliant; there a lot of levels to Dave's song craftsmanship.

  • @metrakos I agree metrakos, they are brilliant but nobody looks deep enough to see that!! Go to VHND people. and listen to Dave explain them!!

  • @supertenor

    Yes....I do

I don't include what they did with spamula burger as being part of CVH....

and I really wasn't too big on the releases of 96'

  • @krazykracker33

One thing to be thought a fool another to open your mouth and remove all doubt

    Fuckin loser.....

  • The tune is a grower

Best thing they have RELEASED IN 28 years

Dave will always be Dave....LIVE WITH it

SO FAKKKKK THE LOT OF YOU

    Give it up

The new album will rip a new asshole in spams ass and the rest of you fuckin naysayers

    Classic Van Halen.....

  • @WBYMAG "Best song realeased by VH in 28 years??" Are you you on crack?

  • DLR theatrical? He's a cartoon! I would think his years in exile would have taught him something. Guess not. I have been anxiously awaiting this album for months, I hope they don't disappoint.

  • I listened to the song four times, loved it, but then I listened to it again three more times over the course of yesterday afternoon and this morning, and I just cant like it anymore after four. Probably the weakest lyric writing from Roth I've ever heard. As a fan who started with an album like Women and Children First; I can't even stand this song after ten listens to be honest. Its very mediocre. So, basically I'm getting a bad vibe from this single! I really hope this isn't disappointing...

  • ah, eh, err.. uh... thats... er... uh..

  • This song sux ass. They phoned this shit in. Get Rosie odonell off the bass

  • Weak song lyrics, for 12 yo kids, hope the cd is better cant get use to it , gotta laugh at the lyrics every time i hear it, hope for harder guitar licks

  • @numskidude fuck you chickenfoot will never, EVER be even close to being better than van halen

  • If you think DLR is overly theatrical....Dude...ITS DLR......go listen to something else...what can u say.

  • As a Van Halen fan i thought that tattoo was a bland and boring song. I would like to see them go back to the roots of like 1984 and 5150. And i would like to see eddie do a lil more, shred a lil harder. I would also like to see Micheal Anthony back in the picture as well.

  • I hated the song at first, now I like it a lot. The video sucked. No color, no women, no humor. It was just bland. I hear the rest of the album is supposed to be a lot of heavier. I think I will reserve my opinion for the album.

  • I think its a great song! You just have get use to it, it grows on you.

  • CHICKEN FOOT KILLS VANHALEN!!! TT

  • Tattoo is an amazing song!!!!

  • tatoo is good but your not going to give your best song your going to give them a good one

  • I Like it ,its VH !!! Dave has always been theatrical ,if he wasn't a rock star he probably would have been a Vegas act , lol Don't worry Eddie still has it , this song is a fun song , so like it or not it is what it is .......

  • Tattoo sucks, Not feelin' it at all. It sounds just as they are: old, tired, and out of ideas. They need inspiration... bad.

  • As a long time female VH Fan, this song may have been more appealing had I NOT seen the video first. They look tired.

The attempt to recreate the hype and feel of any previous VH tune or video for that matter, is as kids say now: epic fail. For the love of all things scared, let's pray that this isn't the best song on the album.

  • I think it's decent, but dull. I'm not a huge fan of most of their stuff with Sammy, but this song, at least, makes me wonder if it wasn't Sammy that changed the vibe of Van Halen, as opposed to Ed taking it in a different direction. For quite a while now, Van Halen's songs have definitely had a formula that is very pop and less rock, and this follows it closely. If you're a fan of Dave, you're going to love them no matter what. Me? I see his big smile, and I just see a used car salesman.

  • it's a 4 version of van halen in my opinion... michael anthony's vocals are a key element to their sound as much as DLR's voice or eddie guitar... the vh camp have been centered more around a rock type sound since dave left and a little less on the swing/diversity they had back in the day... it'll be interesting to hear what the rest of the disc will bring it just puzzels me that Tattoo was the first single as opposed to She's the Woman... but hey the best advice is to go in with an open ear

  • Comment removed

  • album is called Different kind of truth not world. Heck i love the DLR showman ship in the video, its vintage dave. As for the new song, it rocks. they will never be what they were but this is a great start and from what i've read the other tracks on the disc are awesome.

  • I think Tattoo rocks and I'm a long time VH fan. Apparently the rest of the CD is quite heavy. She's the woman sounded great and should be fantastic on the CD.

  • Tattoo could be like Strawberry Fields was for The Beatles in 1967. That was a throw away tune they just put out to see if people liked their new direction. The critics all then asked "where is all our Helps and Nowhere Mans at"? Then they just dropped what else they had been working on for so long on the people and the rest is history as they say. It may not be on the record at all, if you understand that logic. Nice song to have a good time with or didn't anyone get the memo?

  • I really liked it. I did a track review of it on my channel. Feel free to check it out.

  • @augustblue72 I did hear that... and I'll keep listening man. Thanks!

  • @mentorsofmetal

I think it's great. All the analyzing is not necessary. Look Dave has got to be close to 60, at least late 50's. Give him a break. I Think it's just perfect. Different then what

they've done in the past. Everyone stop your bitchin.

  • This song really, really, really GROWS on you...........keep listening man................they can't keep putting out the same soun ding shit. Even though this does sound like HAGAR could've sung lyrics over it......besides it is basically the older track Down in Flames, as we have all heard.

  • Not my favorite tune, but who really expected them to recapture the magic of 1978?

Never gonna happen. If the new album sounds good, then so be it, but if not I will still catch them live when they come through town and enjoy it.

  • @Laroosco Yep - you're right... I think I'm hanging on too tight to something that can never come close to what it once was.

  • @Laroosco I will admit that I was holding out for something way more crunchy. I will listen to every track when they are available, and I do expect for at least an effort on their part to get back to some of early heavy sounds.

This is Eddie Van Halen after all, one of the best rock guitar dudes ever!

Could be Tattoo is a nod towards getting some radio play, and who could blame them, a guys gotta eat.

  • Awful! And the fag dance Dave does is disturbing. Never was a Halen fan really, but could appreciate them.

  • @pandmonium2k7 Those are some disturbing moves!!

  • @pandmonium2k7 Dave's been doing weird moves for 35 years...

  • @pandmonium2k7 Ditto bro...

  • Michael Anthony looks like he is having too much fun with Chickenfoot to go backwards into another foray with Eddie and the boys.

  • Van Halen's first three albums came out when I was a in my last two years at Lake Havasu High. Partying hard to those songs on the beach are some awesome music memories

In "my opinion" Tattoo is a very weak choice for the first release.

I fully wanted to hear a throwback to those early days. Not many tunes hold up like 'Atomic Punk' and 'On Fire'.

That first album was so good I had in on vinyl at home and freekin' 8-Track for the '66 Impala Ragtop! Damn fun days!

  • @TangoSpiceCompany Atomic Punk & On Fire... Now that's what I'm talkin' bout!!

  • What's your mental malfunction? "Tattoo" sounds like old school Halen ---- no other band sounds like that. Maybe you need to clean out yer ears?

  • I too was kinda hoping for an old school hard rocker for the first single so Tattoo wasnt what i was expecting. Its not bad, but i do think it was the wrong choice for the first single. Gotta remember theres 12 more songs that havent been heard so ya keep the faith!
