There is one scholar profession left to be revealed; it's confirmed to be a returning Guild Wars profession.[9] This last profession is "kind of complex and definitely plays differently than other professions" [10], and will also best fulfill the expectations of mesmer fans. [11] It is said it will be revealed before the end of the year.

When you think of ArenaNet, they cherish their owns creations highly. This is probably why there won't be any Eleves, Dwarves or Orcs.

Which other highly successful game than GW1 you know has something that plays like a mesmer? How many game do you have a profession solely based on magical deception, illusion and mind domination? He uses people against themselves. We already know that the last profession will be a caster. It's just annoying that they are keeping this silly suspense.

4. the Mesmery looking concept art fits perfectly in the last shape.

conclusion: i'll be very shocked if its not mesmer/illusionist or something

i hope it is the Mesmer and called Mesmer. the evidence so far is overwhelming and i think that if it wasn't the Mesmer Anet would have said something by now. like they said there will be no monks and no class from factions or nightfall.

I doubt it will be a meser on the grounds that its meant to be a secret and yet they're making blatant hints that are vague enough to be easily interpreted as the mesmer class, one major issue with the class is that I doubt there will be much variation as it was stated before that interrupts were reduced in gw2 and the meser was so critical for its interrupts and control I doubt it will work also it could be a paragon theyre mentioning as it was a huge buff support class

God I hope not! I want to play a Necro, as the game play looks soooooo good, and if the Mesmer is the final, then any other caster class will fall by the wayside. I know that every class has its strengths and weaknesses, but the Mesmer is so good at turning magic based attacks back on the user that all any other caster class can do is run up to the Mesmer and try and take it on hand to hand.

I hope it's a mesmer, mesmers are really cool and unique to guild wars. Yes they'll have to be tweaked but their basic idea of status effects over raw damage can translate to GW2, if handled well.

yes i think it will be mesmer...unless they want to mess with us and call it something different (example: Theif is pretty much an improve assassin with guns...but they change the name cuz it can steal)

Yes it will be mesmer. I've been speculating on how the mesmer's skills will play out in GW2. I can imagine some wonderful things. But like each profession before it, Its going to be something so much more then I could have dreamed of. I look forward to seeing the mesmer.

If they pull of the Mesmer, they gotta make some major changes to it though.

They already said, they won't have straight forward interrupts. You can interupt, but cant see the skill casttime of your opponents. They also got rid of Mana, so the Manadrain is alsoout of the window.

What about a Shapeshifter though?

They said all races will have similar skills to the professions, but weaker.

The Norn can shapesift! Maybe a profession can too.

Or... you know, the final proffession is Harry Potter.

there were a new campaign undergo design after eye of the north campaign. however that expansion was scrapped in 2007 because they wanted to start a new game called guild wars 2. the mystery campaign was called guild wars utopia. in that campaign they introduced 2 new class one was called chronomancer and the other was a summoner. those possibility can also make a return in guild wars 2.

I'm not really sure what it will be. They are hinting its going to be the Mesmer, and everyone already thinks it is going to be, but if so than why wait so long to say it? You would think they would save a new profession for last. Why wait until the game is almost in beta and everyone is going crazy to see what the last profession is just to say its a returning profession? Doesn't make sense to me.

@ZombieSniper64 I think that is because the Mesmer always meant a lot to ArenaNet. Back when GW Prophecies wasn't even called prophecies they had 5 classes that everyone knew (Warrior, Monk, Ele, Necro, Ranger) and one class that was unique to their game - the Mesmer. As many players they found it to be something special. A proof that they were able to create a class with an inimitable playing style and outer appearance. Highlighting it makes sense to me then. :)

There's 1 more scholar/cloth profession. That leaves Monk, Dervish, Ritualist, and Mesmer from GW1 that's not in yet. Monk/Ritualist were incorporated into the Guardian. That leaves Mesmer and Dervish. They said that Mesmer and Dervish would feel at home, so the only possibilities are Mesmer or Mesmer-ish Dervish.

Considering that the Mesmer is the GW mascot, the 8th class shadow has an upturned collar, and the pink lady art, I'd say Mesmer.

It is said to be a returning proffession also its a scholar thus wears ligth armor. The only proffesions that are returning and not annaunced that would wear ligth armor are: Monk, Ritualist and mesmer. Dervish and para are both medium armored. since the monk is certainly not gonna be there it leaves the mesmer and the rit. Also queen Jennah is a mesmer and there have been ghost in the ascelonian catacombs dungeon with the mesmer proffesion. Also mesmer is unique to GW so it think itill be no,8

@kaaspowns Anet said there would be 1 new profession, 1 returning and 1 changed in the last 3, we've had the changed one (Thief) the new one (engineer) the only one left is the returning class, It has to be Mesmer since every other archetype has been taken.

But then again.... rumors have been mentioned that the final class will use leather/cloth armor. Wich can end In some other possibilities, too:

Ritualists, Paragon (?) or something completely out of base.

@GustavoMsTrashCan It will definitely be using cloth armour, it's the last scholar profession (3 scholar [ele,necro,???] 3 adventurer [ranger,thief,engineer] and 2 soldier [guardian,warrior] )

Ritualists don't match the concept art at all and their skills and abilities have already been cannibalised by the other classes so I don't think they will be coming back...

I say it will be a mesmer, but it will be completely different from the GW1s mesmer. They will try to revamp the whole class so not just one of the mesmer attributes will fit in GW2s gameplay...
