They never fixed the part - they just held it around for a while and told you it was fixed. I don't trust any mechanics which is why I do almost all of my own repairs. If you look at my videos you can how I fixed the key getting stuck in the ignition of my 02 grand Prix.

It's funny how you say "good thing i had no gas, I had like this much gas"...If you had a small amount of gas in a large tank filled with the explosive part of gas (the fumes) there would definitely be a explosion. @killdac I'd look up you're vin no. online first to see if your GP is one of the recalled cars. It was a recall for over a million 3.8 gm vehicles I believe from 97 to 03. I've gotten my recall notice in the mail for my 99 GP GT last year about a similar problem but still haven't taken it to the Dealership yet. Or just call a local Pontiac Dealership and they should give you more valuable info.

@killdac Youre gonna want to change your valve cover gaskets, front and back, and also change your fuel injector o-rings and fuel line quick disconnect o-rings (where the fuel rail attaches to the fuel line.) There is some controversy as to what causes the fires, either o-ring, quick disconnect, or valve cover, so I changed all 3 on my 01 GT.

slightly like my GTP, mine is a 95' but she still caught on fire. we pulled into hooters parking lot and thought the smoke was from a truck next to us, come to find out my power steering hose blew up and got all over the exhaust manifold. we saved it, sorry about your luck dude.

If i remember right the recall is to replace the rocker-cover gasket which in some cases leaked oil onto the exhaust manifold which sometimes caught fire lol.

man, that is some shit. i just took my 98' grand prix into the dealer to get this recall fixed. know what they did?, put 2 clips on my spark plug wires in the front. bastard is still leaking oil onto the exhaust. "they said if it is leaking oil now it wont leak onto the exhaust", now that I've seen this video im taking it back to the dealership tomorrow and telling them to replace the gaskets.

yea I just had this problem repaired on my gtp something about the headers leaking oil when you hit you start to break and the oil gets on the headers. that sucks man I hope they gave you a new car since you took it to have the problem fixed
