  • hey. amazing video. could you please tell me the location from 0:19 - 0:24 was shoot ?

  • @cokewithredbull It looks like the Very Large Array just 40 miles west of Socorro New Mexico.

  • Excellent work. I love seeing your stuff.

  • THIS is really amazing! Great Footage.

  • and I just cannot understand how this video can have only 5500 views...

  • I've seen it dozen of times and still luv it

  • absolutely beautiful !!!

  • The images are uber beautiful and that camera is SICK!

  • A M A Z I N G ! Our planet is wonderful...

  • wow this should have waaaaayy more views

    truly awesome

    what is the music?

  • such a beauty.....just......speachless........

  • this is completly amazing

  • Sorry for my English, but...

What the fuck, Tom?!! Why are you using such big ISO value?!! There is so much noise thet ruins the picture! You should use longer exposure time(much longer and much lower sensitivity) and you should not move your camera during the exposure - long exposure and Earth movement will do it for you!

Argh! Such a nice idea and feeling, and such a stupid tech mistakes... I can't believe in this..

    3/5

  • @w0lfield The camera movement is what makes these video so much better than other time-lapse videos..

  • @jaysatanfox

I do not meant the camera movement at filming the whole thing, I mean the camera movement during the picture exposure(while making the shot, how else can I explain?) - this make the picture more blurry. The camera should be moved between exposures.

BTW, my English sucks, so you may not understood my point. xD xD xD

  • @w0lfield I get what you mean, but I think the motion-blur it creates while moving works really well :p

  • @w0lfield The Canon 5D2 was designed with astrophotographers in mind. High ISO values are what we want for this camera. If you watch some of Toms behind the scenes footage, you'll see that he has many different methods for camera movement. Some moves are so slow it doesn't matter. Big moves may require stops or at least slow downs.

The poor quality is due to youtubes video compression. Low bitrates ruin even the best of video quality. Youtube sucks dude...

    Search Vimeo Tom@timescapes...

  • I would love to know how you assemble your shots and how you render the final video to 1080p HD! I use quicktime pro and some xdcam export settings...but it is nowhere as crisp as this (there are alot of compression artifacts and such).

  • Absolutely outstanding - Wooooooow

  • did you do the stuff for Baraka way back when?

  • bravo Tom . . . awesome recordings . . . !

  • Oh, any extremely impressive video by the way. IMHO absolutely on par with Baraka. So Baraka's soundtrack is a good match here. ;-)

  • They said 1080p streaming will start next week. But they will re-encode existing videos so no re-uploading will be necessary.

  • Doesn't look like 1080p at all.

  • All hail Tom! Geez, you're getting good at it, SERIOUSLY.

  • Doing a 1080P test for Youtube? I watched it again because it is pretty awesome.

  • Yeah. Do you know if the 1080p is supposed to be live now, Joey? This doesn't look like 1080p to me fullscreen!

  • Next week it seems :D

  • Davvero bellissimo.
