  • i live in paris my gm and dad were at home when it hit my dad was alone

  • I remember being in the car on the way to Kmart to get Easter clothes, Apparently my parents didnt get warning that this huge tornado was coming, we were just about to the loop coming up 271 towards town, and out the window we saw what looked like twigs and smoke in the air and my dad saying it was Paris lumber being destroyed. I cant remember exactly where we stopped to try and escape its path, but we were in our car through it under a bridge. I thank God for his protection.

  • This was on April 2 1982 not April 3 and I was a young child , my mother and I took shelter in the Safeway Grocery Store on Clarksville Street after leaving there we went to our family owned business on North Main .. I will always have great fear for mother nature seeing the destruction I remember witnessing that afternoon.. Only a nine year old child at this time but I will never forget!!!

  • @salmsrpalms Thanks for the reply. You're correct. The tornado hit late Friday afternoon April 2, 1982. This story aired on WFAA on Saturday April 3rd (I made the correction on the caption).

Do you remember any streets or intersections that were hit?

    Thanks!

  • I was14 years old when the tornado hit, i was at Fords grocery store on Bohnam and 25th street, we watched the tornado as it came straight for us, luckily it turned in the opposite direction, my friend however ran across the field straight for it because it was over by his house and he went to check on his family, when the tornado turned it went in the direction of my house, i went home after to see that my house was still there and all was ok, only a few shingles missing off the roof.

  • that is where i got my name from, Paris1982 was already taken so i had to add a 1 to the end, my email address is paris_1982@yahoo.com, to continue my story, my mom and dad were sitting on the front porch when i came home and a screen was missing off of one of the windows, it pulled the hair on the dog that was in the back yard as it passed about a mile behind our house.

  • My brother got married that night. I tried to tell them it was an omen, but they didn't listen. They went to Arkansas for their honeymoon & followed the path of the tornado. When they stopped for gas in Oklahoma or Arkansas, the people there had stuff from Paris Lumber & mail from Paris. I was in the tub & my spouse said we might need to get out because there were people jumping in ditches in the trailer park. Luckily, it jumped over us. I never got dressed so quick in my life!

  • I LIVE IN PARIS TEXAS NOW BUT I WASNT BORN WHEN THIS HAPPENED IM ONLY 11 YEARS OLD

  • I was a freshman in high school when this happened. We lived off of Pine Mill Rd. It went through the backyards and homes behind ours. It was a horrible thing to go through. I was home alone and terrified!! I shall never forget that tragic day.

  • oh crap thats around my neighborhood

  • One correction - This tornado happened on April 2nd, 1982. I watched it from the north side of loop 820 go right thru the city. I remember thinking it was just a small little dust storm just beyond the trees as it passed by. Bow was I wrong!

  • My grand parents went thru two tornadoes in wichitah falls including the terrible one tht was supposedly the worst in history and then tht one they had their house destroyed each time

  • My grandmother and great grandmother were both killed in the tornado. Their names were Ora Spangler and Martha Jo Spangler. i was 11 years old, and remember it like it was yesterday. It was an awful day for my family!!

  • hey if you live in paris check out my channel ...we do all of our filming in paris texas ...please subscribe and add us as a friend

  • I was a toddler when this tornado hit Paris. We missed the tornado by a mile. My grandfather was the chief of police of Paris at the time and the pictures we have of the damage are awful.

  • I was a baby when that tornado hit.

  • My mother was a couple of months from giving birth to my next to the oldest sister when this tornado happened...

  • OMG! The guys swinging from the pole! That is NOT cool!

I wasn't even born yet when this happened...and I didn't recognize any of the places they showed in the footage. (I'm sure everyone cared to know that, lol)

  • I was only 7 when this happened, but I remember it like yesterday. I was at my grandmothers house on 34th St. and she put me up in a closet. My Dad was at our home on W. Sherman with 7 broken ribs and he watched it all from the front porch. Luckily, none of my family was injured during this. It was a very catastrophic tornado.

  • my dad says that he was playing basket ball right when it went by, a ways away that is, but he said he could feel the suction of it

  • Love this footage, my grandfather and late grandmother lived through this. He worked on the city council, and his office had a basement, and my grandmother was a city worker as well, and her office had a basement. They were lucky to survive this. Their roof was ripped almost off their house, their neighbor's house was destroyed.

  • I was passing through Paris at the moment when the tornado came down from the clouds (as I recall, the cloud it came from did not look that dark). We pulled under an overpass, and climbed up inside for safety. The funnel crossed the freeway right in front of us, and we watched as it destroyed the town. They say do not get under an overpass, but what are you going to do, sit on the highway and get blown away in your car? We saw no ditches. In this same situation, I would do the same again.

  • good God, i remember sitting on 271 watching it rip through town....horrible

  • I was in 5th grade when this tornado hit. We were coming home from Rockwall, Tx...a UIL competition, when we began hearing news of it on the radio. We got home to what looked like a WARZONE...I have never in my life experienced ANYTHING lilke that.

  • I remember being 6 years old when the tornando came through Paris. My granparents had buried an old school bus and made it a celler for us. My grandparents, aunts, uncles, as well as my cousins stayed in the celler for the duration of the tornado. When we all emerged we found a mailbox in our yard from 12 miles away. This tornado was devastating.

  • is Amazing the Power of a Tornado.
