@chemical331 if you look at the foster mothers and how they dress, Astrid is kind of reflecting them, molding herself to them, like mother and daughter, and Astrid's mother hates that she's attaching herself to other female figures. Astrid's mother is afraid she'll lose her to someone else, so she tries to control her and keep her close even from prison. And she's not tired of the nice families, she thinks she destroy's them and that her and her mother are the problem. its sad u know.
Poor Astrid...trying to forget about her psycho mom and all these people are trying to get her to go back to her mom. The best thing she can do is move out and move on...what other choice does she have?
@feelerr i know! i love it, its so lovely, likes its drawn and pulled slowly from somewhere deeper than the throat, but soft and gentle like a flower.
"You just wanted, wanted, wanted." Well, that's what babies and small children do, Ingrid, and you need to take that responsibility. How very selfish of you.
The reason she chose someone sorta bad for a mom this time is because she's seen what happens to the people she gets close to. She doesn't want that to happen again to good people.
I just read the book while I was in the mental ward. This helped me get through alot shit I was dealing with. Hence my screen name. I love this of movie, especially the part shen the mom sees Astrid for the first time in like two years. It's like the way my mother and grandmother and aunt at me when I wear mens clothes (im a girl). Well I'm rambling.
Beeing able to show tears, true tears from deep down the soul, is courage. Showing your true face when you are able to scream. And there are no many who can do this. It took me 10 years to go see help, to cry before their door and ask for help. 10 fucking years.
wasn't there another family?? where she always went to the neighbour, that was a prostitute...? and she took drugs and stuff?? wasn't that in the book??
wow ok lol sorry to disturb u i know u were playing with ur self ! welll ppl should learn that life is short and U MUST DO EVERYTHING QUICK OR ELSE ur dead ! by the end of the line when the word love becomes Signficant , i swear to god idk what i just said
Ingred has got that lawyer wrapped around her finger. I can't believe the lawyer bought her load of crap. It's so obvious that she's only out for herself.
the movie isn't meant to be an exact replica of the book. They have to change some things around to make it a better movie. Everyone's visions about the book are different. They cant make it exactly how you picture it.
Urg...you cut the best scene in the film in half! This is the most dramatic climax of this film between these 2 characters. The screenwriting, direction & editing here is superb!
I haven't seen this movie in ages. And now that I've seen it again, I can't take Susan's character seriously anymore- she played Sydney Heron in Grey's Anatomy!! Now all I can see when Susan talks is a bubbly peppy chick.
You know, even though this film moves pretty fast, I think that Astrid's character (going from shy and sweet, to how she is now) evolution is done really well.
I personally think Ingrid Magnussen is the best character ever written, or at least, that I've ever read. But, I'd be surprised to find a better character. So fun to read and get into.
and they took out two foster homes. one where she gets her face seriously fucked up and her body scarred, and meets rich olivia. the other is when she gets starved by a latina designer.

first family, she looked more sexy (for rob)
second family she looked pretty and preppy (clair and she was actually happy)
third she loks goth and rebellious (hates her mom and tired of all the "nice" families)
