  • So thats what happend to Mr. Clark when he left eastside high.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, Academy award winner - Morgan Freeman :D

    Just plain awesome....

  • Morgan Freeman used to be young????

  • From top to bottom and left to right,

    readin' stuff is outta sight

  • People from age 15 to 25 who see this, are most likely to leave negative or very moronic comments. Very, very few of the young people today have appreciation for good educational tv shows like this. They would rather sit in the dark of their rooms playing XBOX instead of actually trying to soak up the purpose of a good education or lesson learned.

  • @introducing68 Aww c'mon, give us a little more credit than that!

  • @introducing68 generalizing much?

  • @introducing68 Gonna scream at all of them to "GET OFF MY LAWN!" next?

  • @introducing68 why dont you fuck off you boomer. yeah because we never had sesame street or bill nye or beakman's world or barney or author or school house rock and any number of shows on PBS. People from age 30 to 60 will see this an per their egotistic mindset that has ruined the world will leave a comment putting down their children's generation as if they learned nothing from this educational show.

  • @preston9019 People between 30 and 50 are not Boomers. We are Gen X and most of us detest the Boomers even more than you do. ;o) But we did have awesome TV.

  • @DianaDeLuna 1964 (so a 47 year old) is when the baby boom is cut off. Oh god gen x is almost worse than the boomers. they take every thing that sucks about the boomer and they do it again!! I can not tell you how many gen xers think the 1980s is the pinnacle of culture. At least the boomers had the 60s.

  • omg is that Morgan Freeman????????

  • god was so much funkier in the 70's

  • Man he's funkeh!

  • Morgan Freeman is just awesome... then and now. I'd love to see the look on peoples' faces today if a kid was reading a matchbook!

  • Just to put things in perspective for some people: Sesame Street predated TEC by two years, and Mr. Rogers preceded it by six. So that means a producer looked at the state of American children's programming, saw those two shows, and said, "NAAAAH. I can do *better*." The fact that the above scene was the result should, I think, give pause. (Don't get me wrong - I'm a HUGE fan of both Freeman and Moreno - but wow, talk about embarrassing stuff. ^_^;)

  • @nfinn42 If you were not around back then watching these. Then it might be hard to grasp as to us. This stuff was the best thing ever. For those not around looking at this and thinking just wow. We who were around back then think the same way about the crap that is out there today. From the tv shows ( fake ratings made reality shows ) to the music. Just all meanings, emotionless crap made by computers.

  • @ZBlacktt Oh, I agree that the modern stuff sucks. But what I see in the above clip is a desperate attempt by hopelessly clueless producers to cash in on the "Jive" fad in the 70's. "Quick!", you can hear them shouting, "Make some money off it before it gets away!" Then one of them wipes his horn-rimmed glasses on the lapel of his leisure suit and adds, "Perhaps we ought to have one of them say 'turkey' a few more times. I hear that's really swell with the kids these days." :P

  • @nfinn42 You think Electric COmpany on PBS in the 70s was "cashing in"? Does this LOOK like a big money operation to you?

  • @zhimbo Well, I certainly never said I thought they were doing a *good job* at cashing in. :P

  • Hillarious!! I was born in 1976, but I watched this with my older sister as re-runs on PBS. I had no idea that was Morgan Freeman!!!!

  • OMG- Brings back memories!

  • OMG :)

  • Its no wonder why I started smoking dope at a young age in the 70's.

  • He used to be so cool! So why does he have a problem with a bunch of people who want our country to be financially solvent? GO TEA PARTY!!! Tea Party is HEAVY, easy reader!!! Live with it!!!

  • @Roggiedodgie ...oh. Right on. #notreallysurewhereTHATcamefrom #completehorseshit

  • @matttriano it came from the fact that he said the tea party hated Obama because he was black. Get out of the 70's and read the news sometime ya big dummy

  • What fun it would be to go back in time and bump some lines with him! He must have really been a wild man back then!

  • That was just to cool!

  • From here to Shawshank...what an amazing journey!

  • I love this but i think he was on coke when he did this

  • At the Academy Awards one time when Freeman won Best Actor for something, he told Morgan "I remember you as Easy Reader" to which Freeman shook his head but laughed. What an icon.

  • i love man's dancing

  • One of my earliest memories is my first day of nursery school... the teacher asked what my name was and I told her it was Easy Reader :D

  • It's the plumber. I've come to fix the sink!

  • Sesame Street and Morgan Freeman advocate the end of marijuana prohibition.

  • Comment removed

  • m Its ELECTRIC Company totally different production buddy Not Sesame Street.... look at the right hand screen clearly someone doesnt know their PBS.

  • i KNOW Morgan Freeman musta been embarrassed outta his mind when they played this clip @ his Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony on TV Land a few weeks ago....

  • @skingerskanger I don't know... I'd be pretty proud if I made this.

  • @skingerskanger He knows this show started him on the path to being a legend. Nothing to be embarrassed about. Rita Moreno, already arguably a legend when this show came out, has spoken positively in recent years about the Electric Company.

BTW, I hope they do something with the new version to make it watchable. I do like a couple of those kids, they have potential to be good actors later on.

  • you know Morgan Freeman hit that, right?

  • Morgan Freeman is IMMORTAL.

  • 5 people don't think readin' is outta sight.

  • Easy Reader was my favorite EC character. This led to Morgan Freeman becoming one of my favorite actors today.

  • morgan freeman easy reader

  • dude does not age....wtf is he??

  • Another classic I remember when I was a child.

  • Mr. Freeman has always been the hippest cat in showbiz! A legend!

  • It's Jimi!!!

  • Thats not right

  • I totally bought heroin from that dude in the 70's...

  • Start this video at 1:27 and then start the "Rehab" song by Amy Winehouse, playing both songs at the same time. It will blow your mind!

  • @Dulcimerist THAT. Was amazing.

  • @Crotchrot

    Good catch!

  • @Dulcimerist That just made my day

  • @Dulcimerist OMG!!!!

  • @Dulcimerist Wow.

  • @Dulcimerist You're a genius.

  • Morgan Freeman is one of the reasons I can read today!

  • i grew up watching this stuff. Is it any wonder I smoked pot? LOL I don't think so.

  • @motokops22

No shock. Even Freeman admits that he was stoned for most of these performances.

  • Morgan was really cute! I use to watch this with my nephew, he was a little kid I was in high school. I think I just watched it to oogle Morgan. I had a crush on him.

  • Omg, it's been forever since I've seen the show! Lol Easy Reader was one of my fave characters too. What a blast from the past.

  • I Loves me some Easy Reader!

  • Readin' is cooooool.

  • LoL! The 70's were awesome! You go Morgan!

  • Easy Reader doesn't SMOKE? Yeah, right...

  • rita moreno and morgan freeman rock! what a way to get educated in the 70's.

  • "what's happening, Carmeliiita?"

That's code for "damn baby, I'mma fuck you good"

  • Lookit it this way....Mr Freeman got his break on here....Laurence Fishburne was Cowboy Curtis on Pee Wee's Playhouse......Halle Berry played a stripper in The Last Boy Scout...Jamie Foxx started on In Living Color.....amazing what bit parts and small roles can do when you got the drive ......

  • @CJShameless And how do you know he got his break here? I do belive it wasn't till either "Driving Miss Daisy" or "Learn On Me" that he got to be a household name, and that was a few years after TEC went off the air, and nearly 15 years after it went out of production.

  • as a kid i loved Easy Reader, lol

  • Morgan Freeman is outta sight!

  • This is the shit.

  • Rita Moreno and Morgan Freeman! This brings back great memories.

  • WOW! I can't believe how young he looks. I barely recognized him. Anyway, I wasn't sure before but this video comfirms it. Morgan Freeman was born to act!

  • UH UH UH

  • That was out o' sight. That's som' grooovy english.

  • I remember when we as kids could buy our parents cigarettes for them. They were 60 cents back then. The 70s were remarkable, werent they?

  • Call it embarrassing if you want to. Morgan's awesome! Not to mention one of the most famous and well respected actors out there! I absolutely love the old school Electric Company and Easy Reader was my favorite character.

  • @Snowieification It was proper for the time. Gotta reach the kids. They did this very well. Most kids that watched this show will tell you Easy Reader was their favorite character

  • @Snowieification Agreed. 100%

  • Oh, dear...XD

  • this is so sexual...lol

  • Morgan Hendrix.

  • Whenever I hear that "Rehab" song by Amy Winehouse, I'm always reminded of this song. XD

  • This video is one pizza boy or plumber house call away from porn.

  • Morgan Freeman is a thug!

  • ‎"I wish I could tell you that Morgan read the good read...and the Stanley let him be. I "wish I could tell you that - but acting is no fairy-tale world."

  • @sparktank ha ha ha good one

  • Rita Moreno... One of very few EGOT winners.

  • Morgan was out-of-sight!

  • It looked like he smoked hella weed back then.

  • the only thing that changed about morgan freeman is his hair...i hope to age like him!!

  • damn morgan freeman was GROVVVVVVVVVVY!

  • old morgan was higher than a research monkey when he was on electric company-he admitted it .. he's thin as hell. p i m p i n g

  • There was an Electric Company reference on last Sunday's episode of the Simpson's.

  • Easy Reader knew that PHONICS is the superior method of learning to read.I am convinced that the "Educrats" conspiried to kill this show.

  • haha he looks like kid cudi

  • Man, those cats over on Sesame Street are squares, you dig?

  • ever since I was a little boy people have always loved the sound of my voice, so i figured he either get talking or get dying'. the work was really easy, I'm just sitting here reading from a script. the wall across from me has something soft and spongy like a Twinkie... like a Twinkie

  • Morgan Freeman owned this show. There was nothing more groovy growing up than watching Easy Reader and learning how to read. "Top to bottom, left to right" baby! Wish we'd have more of this kind of show on now.

  • i didn't know reading could be so cool.

  • Do you think Morgan Freeman banged Rita Moreno after this was filmed, or before?

  • Only in the 1970's could a kid show have a guy asking for a light, lol..... Plus, we all know he was stoned here for real, lol. Gotta love the 70's..... I did.

  • I never really understood why Morgan Freeman was so embarrassed about his EC years. I thought he was the shit when I was a kid.

But after a short revisit to the past, I can kinda feel his pain a bit.

  • @BJrok

    yes.

  • Morgan Freeman has always been amazing...no one ever remembers he was on here

  • is he saying "easy rita" ? lol....

  • Puerto Rico My heart's devotion Let it sink back in the ocean Always the hurricanes blowing Always the population growing And the money owing And the sunlight streaming And the natives steaming I like the island Manhattan Smoke on your pipe And put that in!
  • This is the most awesome thing I've ever seen in my life. I be the words "Where's the weed" were said a lot on this set.

  • Easy Reader was SOOOOO tappin' dat ass.

  • 3:03

no clap rita?.. oh okayy! do a hand wave! lmfao.

    atta girl.

  • Morgan Freeman is marrying his Step granddaughter technically they are not related.

  • Look at Morgan Freeman on here shuckin and jivin as a young man. This is embarrassing.

What was that 70s movie where he played a pimp.

  • @Yobachi2007 -embarrassing that he taught a nation of young children how to read?

  • @beatmakersuniversity

    I didn't say that.

The performance is embarrassing. Conflating it with teaching anyone how to read is bullshit. That doesn't make the shucking and jiving not embarrassing, it's still shucking and jiving, and completely unnecessary to teach children to read.

  • @Yobachi2007 -whatever I am kind of sick of the youtube" Malcolm's" lol you call it "shucking". I call it classic 70's tv by one of the greatest actors ever on one of the greatest tv shows ever created for children.

  • @beatmakersuniversity embarrassing that you are a fucked up idiot

  • @dmia123 Thank you.lol you act like it is my fault your mother and father are brother and sister.lol take your manic depressive German ass to sleep or maybe you should slit your wrist what good are Germans anyway.?

  • I remember Easy Reader wearing a jean jacket with patches on it and sunglasses.

  • theres some serious sexual tension goin' on between them two

  • who knew morgan freeman was such a pimp? lol

  • Can someone upload the clip of the China Shop and Rita says like "Clumsy, clumsy, you're so clumsy!"?

  • he's a first class, genuine, readin' freak! fantastic!

  • It's nowonder he became such a great actor......He had to redeem himself of this crazzy shit!

  • christ man morgan freeman is in everything...

  • This Was The Shit....lmao

  • I miss watching this every morning during school.

  • I think this is the stage in every actor's career called, "Any gig that provides a steady check!".

  • lol any think that morgan freeman pretty much looks the same

  • I sending this out in your honor Vaughn

  • acceptable nigger?

  • @kgsolaman5000 - He WAS considered an acceptable negro until he MARRIED HIS OWN GRANDAUGHTER! OMFG! Think I'm joking? Google it. "Morgan Freeman marries own Granddaughter"

When I do THIS... people don't lie...

  • @FasterThanYou321 You gotta be shitting me.

  • @Bombeni - If I lyin', I'm dyin'! Google "Morgan Freeman Marries Own Grand-Daughter." He's 72. She's 27. They've been fucking since she was 17 and he was still married to his wife. They have pictures. I don't make this stuff up. It is the Negro way, I'm afraid. I don't like it, I just report it.

  • @FasterThanYou321 No that never happened in any way shape or form. You must have a subscription to WORLD NEWS magazine. Please check facts before posting them as bonafide. I wouldn't believe a word you say about anything now.

  • @Bombeni - I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were slow. The fact is, he has had a TEN YEAR affair with his Granddaughter, and a wedding is planned. Yes, I realize that you can find an article on a some disreputable websites that claim it is not true. However, for every one article that says it is not true, eight articles confirm it. You must have googled and landed on one of the disreputable sites.

  • @FasterThanYou321 Yeah I'm slow, lol. I actually believe in checking the facts before acting like an idiot and stating blatant lies. Wikipedia is a much more reliable source than any blog you can read. It says nothing about him marrying anyone since his divorce 3 years ago. So where is the "reputable" source you have?

  • Great set design! There is no doubt about when this was filmed.

  • This show helped me to read and to love reading and writing as a child. Thank you :)

  • I was born in 1975 and The Electric Company was always my favorite PBS show. How cool is it to say that you were educated by Morgan Freeman and Rita Moreno?

  • Love this

  • damn morgan looked fine back then

  • Outta sightchusss!

  • HAHAHAHA!! OMG!

  • One of the early seasons? This is about as early as it gets: it's from the very first episode, from October 1971.

  • love this!

  • being an Oscar winner, why did Rita Moreno do Electric Company ?

  • A lot of reasons, but I think a big one is that she believed in the concept. It was probably a tantalizing professional challenge as well, you know; as a prolific young actress who was already a veteran of Broadway and Hollywood, the idea of doing a daily children's educational/sketch comedy show for public TV must have seemed like a really interesting new direction to try. That she pulled it off so well is a testament to her immense talent. Ditto for Freeman.

  • @snacional

She's a performer. The public would think such an actor like Richard Burton would play in such sophisticated roles. Burton and other like him, such as Joan Crawford, who too was an Academy Award winner, had appeared in TV shows and in B-movies. Asked why they took such a role, their response was that they are actors and their job is to act.

  • What really made The Electric Company shined were the great talent contributions of Rital Moreno and Morgan Freeman; this "dynamite duo" really left their inspirational learning skills on many kids, including me!...teaching someone something in a form of rockin' and rhythm can really persuave a goal!

  • Well don't fprget the show's *other* dynamic duo, the lovable and hilarious team of Skip Hinnant and Judy Graubart.

  • OMG. I loved Easy Reader. He was so cool!

  • lol! hell nah i used to watch this as a shorty growing up in the projects in Chicago.

  • Rita + Morgan = DYNAMIC SOUL!!!

  • he's acting like he is on pcp ha

  • I remember watching this on a nearly religious basis; 'Twas the combined influences of Morgan Freeman and my dearly beloved, dearly departed grandmother Esther Jane I was reading when I entered kindergarden.

    Timothy

    :o)

  • Timothy - I don't even know you, but yeah for your Granmother Esther! I loved that.

  • Their is nothing embarrsing about a black man getting his read on. God Bless you Morgan, Mr. Freeman

  • @ednoroirika : nothing embarrassing about ANY person learning how to read.

  • Love the Curtis Mayfield -like soundtrack in the background.

  • Wow, he really does look like Hendrix! He could play his Dad Al now!

  • Loved loved this show when I was young...followed by Zoom Zoom Zooma Zoom... i think I can still do the elbow arm swing...oh wait my arthritis Ouch....Sure makes me wanna be a kid again!

  • so whatever happened to Stanley?

  • no seriously i cant believe that Morgan Freeman has been that young looking.

  • aia da

  • God bless YOUTUBE!!

If there's some embarrsing shit you done in the past. chances are they're going to end up here and someone will find it.

  • The hell easy doesn't smoke...

  • LMFAO!
