People from age 15 to 25 who see this, are most likely to leave negative or very moronic comments. Very, very few of the young people today have appreciation for good educational tv shows like this. They would rather sit in the dark of their rooms playing XBOX instead of actually trying to soak up the purpose of a good education or lesson learned.
@introducing68 why dont you fuck off you boomer. yeah because we never had sesame street or bill nye or beakman's world or barney or author or school house rock and any number of shows on PBS. People from age 30 to 60 will see this an per their egotistic mindset that has ruined the world will leave a comment putting down their children's generation as if they learned nothing from this educational show.
@preston9019 People between 30 and 50 are not Boomers. We are Gen X and most of us detest the Boomers even more than you do. ;o) But we did have awesome TV.
@DianaDeLuna 1964 (so a 47 year old) is when the baby boom is cut off. Oh god gen x is almost worse than the boomers. they take every thing that sucks about the boomer and they do it again!! I can not tell you how many gen xers think the 1980s is the pinnacle of culture. At least the boomers had the 60s.
Just to put things in perspective for some people: Sesame Street predated TEC by two years, and Mr. Rogers preceded it by six. So that means a producer looked at the state of American children's programming, saw those two shows, and said, "NAAAAH. I can do *better*." The fact that the above scene was the result should, I think, give pause. (Don't get me wrong - I'm a HUGE fan of both Freeman and Moreno - but wow, talk about embarrassing stuff. ^_^;)
@nfinn42 If you were not around back then watching these. Then it might be hard to grasp as to us. This stuff was the best thing ever. For those not around looking at this and thinking just wow. We who were around back then think the same way about the crap that is out there today. From the tv shows ( fake ratings made reality shows ) to the music. Just all meanings, emotionless crap made by computers.
@ZBlacktt Oh, I agree that the modern stuff sucks. But what I see in the above clip is a desperate attempt by hopelessly clueless producers to cash in on the "Jive" fad in the 70's. "Quick!", you can hear them shouting, "Make some money off it before it gets away!" Then one of them wipes his horn-rimmed glasses on the lapel of his leisure suit and adds, "Perhaps we ought to have one of them say 'turkey' a few more times. I hear that's really swell with the kids these days." :P
He used to be so cool! So why does he have a problem with a bunch of people who want our country to be financially solvent? GO TEA PARTY!!! Tea Party is HEAVY, easy reader!!! Live with it!!!
@matttriano it came from the fact that he said the tea party hated Obama because he was black. Get out of the 70's and read the news sometime ya big dummy
At the Academy Awards one time when Freeman won Best Actor for something, he told Morgan "I remember you as Easy Reader" to which Freeman shook his head but laughed. What an icon.
@cursingchimp who posted: "you know Morgan Freeman hit that, right?"
I was going to mention that myself. I'm glad you took care of it though. :) Was he hittin' that or was THAT hittin him?? :D Man, it's a wonder he didn't disembowel her.
Morgan is one cool dude, tho. Look up here at YouTube the snippet of an interview he did with Chris Wallace on 60 Minutes where he gave his opinion on the notion of "Black History Month".
i KNOW Morgan Freeman musta been embarrassed outta his mind when they played this clip @ his Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony on TV Land a few weeks ago....
@skingerskanger He knows this show started him on the path to being a legend. Nothing to be embarrassed about. Rita Moreno, already arguably a legend when this show came out, has spoken positively in recent years about the Electric Company.
BTW, I hope they do something with the new version to make it watchable. I do like a couple of those kids, they have potential to be good actors later on.
Morgan was really cute! I use to watch this with my nephew, he was a little kid I was in high school. I think I just watched it to oogle Morgan. I had a crush on him.
Lookit it this way....Mr Freeman got his break on here....Laurence Fishburne was Cowboy Curtis on Pee Wee's Playhouse......Halle Berry played a stripper in The Last Boy Scout...Jamie Foxx started on In Living Color.....amazing what bit parts and small roles can do when you got the drive ......
@CJShameless And how do you know he got his break here? I do belive it wasn't till either "Driving Miss Daisy" or "Learn On Me" that he got to be a household name, and that was a few years after TEC went off the air, and nearly 15 years after it went out of production.

@FasterThanYou321 No that never happened in any way shape or form. You must have a subscription to WORLD NEWS magazine. Please check facts before posting them as bonafide. I wouldn't believe a word you say about anything now.
@Bombeni - I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were slow. The fact is, he has had a TEN YEAR affair with his Granddaughter, and a wedding is planned. Yes, I realize that you can find an article on a some disreputable websites that claim it is not true. However, for every one article that says it is not true, eight articles confirm it. You must have googled and landed on one of the disreputable sites.
@FasterThanYou321 Yeah I'm slow, lol. I actually believe in checking the facts before acting like an idiot and stating blatant lies. Wikipedia is a much more reliable source than any blog you can read. It says nothing about him marrying anyone since his divorce 3 years ago. So where is the "reputable" source you have?
I was born in 1975 and The Electric Company was always my favorite PBS show. How cool is it to say that you were educated by Morgan Freeman and Rita Moreno?
A lot of reasons, but I think a big one is that she believed in the concept. It was probably a tantalizing professional challenge as well, you know; as a prolific young actress who was already a veteran of Broadway and Hollywood, the idea of doing a daily children's educational/sketch comedy show for public TV must have seemed like a really interesting new direction to try. That she pulled it off so well is a testament to her immense talent. Ditto for Freeman.
She's a performer. The public would think such an actor like Richard Burton would play in such sophisticated roles. Burton and other like him, such as Joan Crawford, who too was an Academy Award winner, had appeared in TV shows and in B-movies. Asked why they took such a role, their response was that they are actors and their job is to act.
What really made The Electric Company shined were the great talent contributions of Rital Moreno and Morgan Freeman; this "dynamite duo" really left their inspirational learning skills on many kids, including me!...teaching someone something in a form of rockin' and rhythm can really persuave a goal!
I remember watching this on a nearly religious basis; 'Twas the combined influences of Morgan Freeman and my dearly beloved, dearly departed grandmother Esther Jane I was reading when I entered kindergarden.
Loved loved this show when I was young...followed by Zoom Zoom Zooma Zoom... i think I can still do the elbow arm swing...oh wait my arthritis Ouch....Sure makes me wanna be a kid again!
So thats what happend to Mr. Clark when he left eastside high.

One of the early seasons? This is about as early as it gets: it's from the very first episode, from October 1971.

being an Oscar winner, why did Rita Moreno do Electric Company ?
snacional 1 year ago
A lot of reasons, but I think a big one is that she believed in the concept. It was probably a tantalizing professional challenge as well, you know; as a prolific young actress who was already a veteran of Broadway and Hollywood, the idea of doing a daily children's educational/sketch comedy show for public TV must have seemed like a really interesting new direction to try. That she pulled it off so well is a testament to her immense talent. Ditto for Freeman.

@snacional

Well don't fprget the show's *other* dynamic duo, the lovable and hilarious team of Skip Hinnant and Judy Graubart.

I remember watching this on a nearly religious basis; 'Twas the combined influences of Morgan Freeman and my dearly beloved, dearly departed grandmother Esther Jane I was reading when I entered kindergarden.
