People who watch the 90s NBA would say Jordan would destroy Kobe, people who watch the 80s NBA would say Magic and Bird would own Jordan. Fuck, why do everyone try to show off like they know everything about basketball. Why don't we just sit our ass down and enjoy the fuckin NBA games.
These teams along with along with the early Celtics, '67 Sixers , '72 Lakers were the best teams ever. Jordan's teams only won without a real center to contend against. Since kareem left we've had the era of the lightweight with the exception of fat Shaq. Shaq didn't have near the skills of Kareem and Wilt would have mugged his fat ass and stolen his lunch money like taking it from a fatboy in junior high !
"Jordan's teams only won without a real center to contend against"
So what were guys like Ewing, Mourning, Smits, Mutumbo & Shaq?
Shaq didn't have Kareem and Wilt's skill? Neither did Russell, yet U STILL count him as an Elite. Why him, but not Shaq? Is it because he played against MJ, the guy U obviously dislike & are trying to discredit?
Shaq is 340-565 (.602%) in 30 Finals games..#1 All Time in Finals history! Neither Wilt, Russell or Kareem are anywhere CLOSE to Shaq in this dept..
@luschena Not so true, what about likes of Hakeem and David Robinson? The problem was that Kareem, and Parish and Wilt had allready built teams to complement them and the two above were the sole superstars in their teams respectively. But true they never met in P.O. ... if they were in eastern teams history would be a lot different. Well MJ struggled against Pistons but when they got older and not so hungry the doors opened to trophyland.
i'm a huge celtics fan but i love that classic magic, kareem, worthy team...a poster of magic johnson graces my wall and blieve me thats saying alot considering how much i hate the lakers ..And honestly, i think the c's should go back to the classic green and white logo/look
Bird is the only Celtic player i RESPECT!!Magic & Bird definetely the biggest rivals ever!So happy to watch them playin' against each other! After the game they were still "Brothers" and lovin' each other!I can't thing anything like that happenin' between other Lakers - Celtics players.
Great video. If I'm building a team, my first pick is Bird. Like Magic his teammates loved the guy. Watch the passing in this video-Bird and Magic are like mirrors to one another. Both made their teammates better!! Bird's trump card is his shooting and his clutch performances and game winning shots and steals. Magic would be my second pick-his court vision and b-ball IQ put him ahead of Jordan. Jordan is my 3rd pick-the most explosive and spectacular scorer and tremendous will to win.
who now would buy a ticket or bring their family to watch an nba game ..this was when it was a game .now a bunch a tatooed candys in la la land no wonder attendance is at a all time low .canceled my season ticket at the garden .miss the game but now BORING BORING
I don't care what people say about MJ, because MJ never faced the extreme competition that Bird & Magic had to deal with.. If MJ was drafted in 79, his legacy would been a lot different. I do think he would have won a ring or two, but definitely not 6. No way, not against the great 80s teams
MJ DID face them, he just wasn't as successful as them due to him not having an adequate supporting cast at that time. Y'all forget, MJ went to a team that ONLY won 27 games & hadn't seen the playoffs since '81 UNTIL he showed up..
In the 80's during the Playoffs, MJ for his CAREER, avg'd: 30ppg vs detroit; 39ppg vs boston & 32ppg vs philly & was JUST as deadly vs them in the reg season as well!
Had MJ had ANY kinda' support during those days, he would've had MORE success vs the ELITE teams..
I don't care about that 30 or 32 ppg stat. I look at FG%. Bird, MJ & Magic all shot around 50% for their careers. So what does that tell you? Who missed the most shots? MJ missed alot more shots. If Bird takes as many shots as MJ, I guarantee he would avg 30+ ppg etc... The stars do what is needed of them to win.
I agree if MJ had a good supporting cast they would've had more success. I am not denying MJs greatness. He was awesome, but no better than guys like Bird or Magic. They were all great.
What I am saying is MJ would never have won 6 rings or 5 MVPs in the 80s, no matter what supporting cast he had around him. Bird, Magic, Dr.J, Kareem etc...Way too much talent in the 80s. Example..Magic won MVP during MJs best statistical season of his career. I do think the Bulls could have won but not 6.
@blackadam06 - Forget Jordan the media kissed his ass every step that he took. He would have never won it all against teams with centers like Wilt, Russell and Kareem.
@BigTimePride - Right on the money. MJ never won a title until Kareem retired. The media exaggerated and the talking heads at ESPN kissed his ass. Jordan this and that -hell I wish Jordan would have gone in the paint against Wilt. I assure - he wouldn't have come back very often.
With Kareem in the mix and an adequate Parrish , I feel that I can safely say that the Showtime Lakers and Celtics were the best teams ever in the NBA. This was a great rivalry only Wilt vs Russell was better !
Never going to see another rival like Bird & Magic. I think I speak for all of us who were fortunate enough to have seen these two legends define greatness.
Dr. J revolutionized and increased the popularity of professional basketball before Bird and Magic entered the league. When they entered the league he was on his way out, but still the top dog. Those two transitioned quickly into the top dogs. Hence, he set the stage for them. To say otherwise just shows ignorance of basketball history.
Gotta give alot respect for these two greatest basketball players, Bird and Magic. Before MJ there's them. I'm not gonna say MJ is better than them just because I'm a fan of MJ but as a fan of the game basketball.
The game of basketball will never be the same with out Magic & Bird.
I love some of the talent that is in the league right now, some very amazing players, but seriously, if you were to take these two guys and add Jordan, is there any question that they would destroy any three from this era? They were just too good. There was something special about them.
magic is not just a pg & bird is not just a small forward. they are basketball players. played the game the way it should be. leaders, motivators, winners.
Larry Bird and Magic Johnson brought the NBA back to life with the friendly rival that they had. Not a thing can be taken away from them. They played the game the way it should be played with passion and team work.
I gotta say that it is really hard to pick which one is better, both have said that the other is. But with the game on the line i would have larry bird shoot the shot. MJ said that once.
Yeah there is nothing between them they are just as good. I agree with the game on the line id pick bird, but I think magic was slighly better athlete althoigh bird was better shooter.
I think it would have been 4 -4 rings each if lakers didnt have a slighly better team during the 87 - 88 seasons.
No man I love Bird but Magic is my #1 pick over everyone. If you take any 4 players in NBA history and then add Magic to the last spot, he gives you the best chance of winning bar none. Most other greats needs certain players on the team to compliment them.

No, I didn't forget that MJ went to a team with only 27 wins. However, do you realize they only won 38 games his rookie season?
Bird went to a team with only 29 wins? Bird led them to 61 wins his rookie season without McHale, Parish, DJ etc..
80s....Bulls make the playoffs MJ's rookie season. MJ misses the entire 2nd season and the Bulls still make the playoffs.

"Forget Jordan the media kissed his ass every step that he took"
Like they didn't do that for Bird & Magic in the 80's..
"Jordan this and that"
Go look at his resume B4 he won a title. Nobody puts up the kinda jaw dropping production he did as a guard, and NOT get noticed.
"I wish Jordan would have gone in the paint against Wilt"
If he dunked on Shaq (and EVERY OTHER center for that matter), what the hell makes U think he wouldn't have done it or at least attacked Wilt?
