  • hair-raising.

you were riding through a kind of door-tunnel.

surely those cars aren't allowed to park on the mandatory bike lane?

  • Being doored is a Big fear of mine, hasnt happened to me yet. YET being the key word.

  • why are they parked over the cycling lane?

  • should always look in your wing mirror before you get out (Y)

  • why dident you say anything?

  • Stupid dozie bastard

  • there goes all ur momentum, i hate when that happens to me

  • Damn that was close!

Good on you for keeping your cool. Trust me, when you tell someone off, they instantly become defensive and start to justify their behaviour. But if you just shake your head and let it go, you allow the guilt to set in, better chance of them remembering next time.

Mind you, it's hard to resist tearing a strip off them, isn't it?

  • Who is the moron who said cyclists don't pay taxes? Sure they don't pay typical registration fees or taxes associated with drivers but cyclists also aren't contributing to wear and tear of the roads that drivers are. So be thankful more people ride bikes, it's helping roads last longer.

  • @jpete3027666 "So be thankful more people ride bikes, it's helping roads last longer' And helping keeps roads less congested too..

  • @jpete3027666 most cyclists also have cars.

  • taxi drivers are the worst for doing it when they let people out...always doing it to me...bastards!!! ...think i might stick a recorder on me bike :)

  • Well at least you have a bike lane at the streets...

  • it was as if the driver didnt give a crap

  • @Mathewmartialart Exactly!

If you drive a big car or truck, just horn & knock off the door. A freight bicycle will do as well.

Lessons will be learned and cyclists will be safer.

  • a cleat to his door panel will sort that out.

    i generally call eveyone a `cunt`l

  • Where I live in Australia it is an offence to open a door when it is likely to cause an accident, though as a driver it is something that is very easy to do absent-mindedly. When I am riding I make a point of never filtering past a parked car until I can see that there is nobody inside.

  • Unreal... you shoulda ridden outside the door and kicked it shut on his knee.. give the fucking twat a wake up call.

  • i ve been doored really hard..although i was going 20mph i trie and avoid the door but it still got me and i flew in the air landed on my ass and back..if it wasn't that cool of a fall i would be pissed off.the driver though was in shock so i don't blame him

  • Bikes need to watch were they are going, you dont even have any insurance if you cause any damage to cars. GTFOTR

  • @TheBbergner86 That is bullshit in more ways then 1 firstly, what a dumb statement when the car driver was at fault. Need I remind you that if a car driver opens a door into the path of a cyclist, IT IS THE CAR DRIVERS FAULT< AND ANY DAMAGE THAT IS DONE IS HIS RESPONSIBILITY.

  • nearly doored my ass. you clowns on bikes deserve all you get. no test no road tax and you expect to be treated the same as other road users. dont make laugh.some of us have sat four different tests but nothing prepares us for the antics you tits get up to. 10 4

  • @TheHairybaz You do realize how stupid you sound, right?

  • you should have killed him for making an honest mistake.

  • Lost your tongue?Cant believe you didnt throw some loud language at the fool!

  • Pretty scummy that they are all blocking the cycle lane in the first place.

  • hehe fek that get on the pavement son .

  • In a situation like this you'd be better served merging with traffic and taking your place in the road. It's slower, but a lot safer than doing a header into the tarmac. Until police start fining people who park on bike lanes the bike lanes are more dangerous than driving in traffic.

  • paksitani or Indian, another benefit of immigration. sure irish drivers are shite, but do we need to import more bad driving from cultures that are notoriously chaotic on the roads?

  • I know what he did was wrong, and the cycle lane should be kept clear, but if you really wanted could you not have just pulled to the right a bit and not do the over dramatic jam on? Maybe it was good to teach him a lesson but it seems to me when you put a camera on your bike you are more likely to make the most out of it for dramatic effect. Ample space between the extremity of the door and the Merc.

  • how to fix this situation. Step 1: get a motorcycle. Step 2: Attach battering ram. Step 3: Watch for doors opening in front of you, and instead of hitting the breaks, hit the gas, and rip the door off!

  • What a idiot! cyclist have the right a way, its even in the driving school book! People have died because of this here in Canada. People need to learn that the roads (especially bike lanes lol) need to be payed attention to!

  • That boneheaded idiot who exited the car on his right and at the cyclist's left, wasn't paying attention to the incoming cyclist. This is exactly the nightmarish scenario that every cyclists have to deal with.

  • What are these arse-holes doing parking on the bike lane.?

  • @TubeSecurity

There's a bank on the left just before the Texaco... tossers just stop on the cycle lane and jump out to use the atm.

  • I hope someone runs over you when you cross the road and says take it and like it.

How the hell is it the cyclists fault?

  • @masterhand42

    whos fault ?

  • @ripousse The car drivers... If you door a cyclist you are at fault and responsible for any injury or damage.

  • my story I was riding with traffic, cab stops in middle of block, fare exits, I take door sharp corner in my left shoulder, go over the handlebar, lying in snow water until emt arrive. Verdict 5 yrs still, Illegal alien cab driver, not guilty, never found to server warrrant, Cab company not guilty, fare guilty $3400 guilty refuses to pay, still in court. The 3k doesnt even cover, my bike,or time out of work, couldn't use my should for like a 8-12 months, and so on.

  • thats when you take the door and kick it off.

  • I was disappointed to hear no abuse for the cunt

  • The driver of the car should have looked first and waited until you had passed, however it looked like you had plenty of room to go around.

  • And the dude doesn't even give you a second glance, brilliant.

  • you should have wrecked his car period

  • Just remove his door.

  • I've worked as a bicycle and motorcycle courier in Auckland NZ for a couple of years, and bicycles/motorbikes may aswell be invisible to pedestrians and cars alike. You learn to expect this to happen, and you look through the rear window of every car to see if anyone is inside it and has the potential to "door" you. And if I can I just sit wide enough that in the event the door does try to kill me I'm wide enough anyway, takes less concentration. Car drivers don't like you doing it though.

  • Is that on Crumlin Road, at the AIB Bank?

  • Is that on Crumlin Road, near the AIB Bank?

  • smash it mate, nothing else to do.

  • Why are those people parking half on the sidewalk half on the bike lane? Can they get away with that?

  • Do you notice the Cops do not seem to enforce the no Parking on a Cycle lane, that is a continual white Line and about four Cars are Parked on it. I never see the Law Ticketing anybody for Parking on Cycleways. What if you went to the right to avoid the Door and went into a Car or Bus coming alongside you, nasty.

  • I got doored while in the bike lane in Manchester by a passenger. Told the guy he was a prick, he got out of the car, tried to smash my bike and broke my mud guard. Bike was already trashed from impact and couldn't ride it. Got into an argument, the fuzz came over and told me technically it was a RTA but basically shit happens. I was moving to London a week after so couldn't be arsed pursuing it. Regret that. Had a bruise the size of a saucer on my shoulder for weeks but not much else.

  • You should be allowed to take a hammer to the door you would hit then they would never do it again. That would be a great law to get them to look first.

  • It's the single most common hazard I face cycling in Glasgow. You can never just enjoy the journey for watching every parked door/mirror/front wheel for a surprise move in a paranoid manner...

  • Yeah, looking to see if there's a rear passenger or driver sitting in the car with the engine off, while estimating how much room you have to swerve right without falling under a bus doesn't make for the most pleasant ride. It's worst on narrow roads with cars parked up on both sides and heavy traffic... especially if there's a big football match or something on.

Never actually been doored, but I was almost buggied once (some dope blindly pushed her pram into the road from between 2 buses).

  • That was close - what did he do when he saw you? Did he look away and scurry off?

  • He pressed up against his car trying to pass me, staring at him i got a peep of a sorry out of him, would he have remembered this more if I had said something to him? I'm not sure.

  • Hopefully he'll remember it in any case. I have a thought, if it happens again try getting them on side with a boisterous [sp?] "Boy that was close!". Then once they smile kindly remind them to check their mirrors before opening their door, "Ah well, hopefully you won't forget to check next time." If you make it a pleasant memory for them I'm sure they're more willing to remember it than an unpleasant one. Of course it's easy enough to say this when you haven't been almost doored. :)

  • Hi there! Just watched your vid. I was doing about 20mph on the way home about 2 months back and a guy flipped his door right open on me. With sheer luck I avoided it. I had to pull over to steady myself. Actually had a little chat to the guy (politely - seemed genuinely sorry) about it and told him that was about the 4th near miss that day and the closest.

Handy to have some stats to give drivers when they do this. I have quoted RoSPA figures before and have carried the highway code on me

  • ...And you didn't say anything?
