Goosebumps every time, ESL like thee best version (video, cuz LP didnt have, though it had La Villa), the drums, the break from In the Mood--> opening riff classic! --gets me jumping!
The sick-thick bass, the crazy tonal run and cat scratches at the end with Big Al leaning and poised for his pinky to fully saturate his barred-chord(s), its too much!!! The feedback makes me CAN'T STOP THINKING BIG.
So, is Alex Lifeson one of the all-time most underrated guitarists? I love his playing. And, he can play anything. But, no one except Rush fans notice him.
Grande Finale has got to be one of the best Rush tunes out there. I still remember the 1st time I heard it. Practically wore out the tape listening to it over and over again. These days I play it in my Rush cover band, and it still rocks the same as it did 30 years ago! All I can say is - Incredible song writing guys!!
Alex is OFF THE HOOK! At 3:16 he becomes a human violin, buttering that guitar neck. He so good I started laughing. The greatest rock band ever...EVER!
Wait-did a little research. This is Exit...Stage Left. After the medely at the end they closed with 2112:Grande Finale. You can tell by Geddy's Rickenbacker and Alex's Starat and red jacket.
W.E. H.A.V.E. A.S.S.U.M.E.D. C.O.N.T.R.O.L. to me stands for "Waylaying Earth, Heaven's armies Vanquish Each Army Showing Six-six-six Until Messiah's Empire Displays Control Next, Taking Reins Of Lands"
What the fuck are you talking about? I think the only one who's crazy here is you! What "In The Mood" is about is obvious, but the story of 2112 is simply the result of the kinds of books Peart was interested in at the time (individualism/philosophy/the power of one/with an outer space flavour as far as 2112 goes) Big deal. Science fiction's a lot less scarier than brainwashed, depressing, we're-all-going-to-die wackos that go around talking about the bible and prophecies.
G.R.A.N.D. F.I.N.A.L.E. to me stands for "God Returns And Next Defends Forsaken Israel, 'Nuking' All Land's Enemies" (Why do you think all the world's attention is trained on tiny Israel? It's because the Grand Finale will happen eventually....)
Are you kidding me? 70's Rush is absolutely brilliant. 2112 is one of the most genius concept albums out there, Rush was amazing in the 80's yes but their 70's stuff is superb.
Yes, up until about Moving Pictures, but even then, their output from "Rush" to "Moving Pictures" or even as far as Grace Under Pressure was very good.
everybody gets it!

i like how they did the medley in the ESL DVD.
however,
i was pleasantly surprised to hear a bootleg from the Moving Pictures tour.
instead of starting out with By Tor,
they begin with a reggae snippet of Working Man,
slip into the rock version,
then immediately segue into Hemispheres/Armageddon.
only after a bit of Armageddon do they switch into By Tor/In The End/In The Mood/Grand Finale.
this version gives me the chills everytime.
deathless stuff. crushing guitar and drums.

i just don't see a science fiction story unfolding with this type of almost redneck-sounding rock'n roll. Rush got a lot better after this album.
