Vanda and young wrote the song...JPR recorded it first then BRC...whichever...awesome song and both awesome sounds...wish we could have the 70s back LOL
The singer was lipsynching I am convinced. I know this was played as a studio version but his voice is different compared to the other songs he sang. Maybe this was inspired Milli Vanilli
that is just what they are right now, only us old guys still know them. They would have deserved to survive much more than some other 70#acts which are still on theb play list of regular stations.
@applejackass and @nyx0100 Actually the song was written by Harry Vanda and George Young (no relation) of Australian band The Easybeats, specially for JPY. BCR covered it two years later.
@paulhamerton I remember that name but didn't this guy that is in the video replace Ian. I have an album cover where there is a guy that looks like this guy...I'd really have to just google it..its been so long.
@phillygirl06 i`m certain it`s Ian Then Duncan came in for Les later on,if you google Ian on youtube he sings some Rollers songs and im sure you`ll see its him then
@paulhamerton I'm wondering from 1975 on...I remember a replacement on the guitar player and he was 19 and I think that is who this guy is next to Woody. He seems really young and I guess back then he would seem really old to me. LOL
@setenteromusic Yesterday's Hero...sounds like when the band went away...its almost like they are singing about what they were about to become...Plus..for me it was the theme song of my life for about 4 yrs when I got older...live and learn...
I´m born 1968 and I heard this song with John Paul Young the first time in the middle of the seventis and its still have a strong place in my heart. I have it on LP with BCR and EP with JPY and in a home made CD in my car with JPY. Just love it..
@KellieHorn13 okay so this Pat is the one who replaced Ian...and wasn't this one a bit younger than Ian? he looks so young to me now...back then I guess he seemed really old to me...I'd have to google the whole thing...I just know it was around 1975
@phillygirl06 I believe Pat joined toward the end of 1976, if not early or mid 1977. He was on It's A Game record, but when he was removed from the band, his pic on the back of the album was removed.

Luv the Scotts in their short pants, eh?
Almost as much as the guitar riff, at the end, that's missing from this recording...

@tracy71091
John Paul Young wrote the song. BCR covered the song. Both versions are great if you ask me.

This song is wriiten by Harry Vanda & George Young also known as Flash & the Pan.
Vanda & Young are former member's of the Easybeats, who wrote Friday on my Mind.
George Young is the elder brother to Angus & Malcom Young from AC/DC,they also wrote Love is in the air.
They also formed the production company Albert Records.

Harry Vanda and George Young (previously with The Easybeats) wrote and produced Yesterday's Hero for John Paul Young.
There aren't really two versions; Bay City Rollers just changed a few of the words to suit themselves.
