Doesnt any one else have a 4.0L ?? I cant find many videos of people who do and are increasing performance. everyone seems to have the little 2.3 and are trying to atleast get 4.0 performance...
installing a tach without punching a hole in the firewall is a piece of cake. one wire goes to your headlights, one wire goes to accessories, one wire goes to ground, and the last wire goes to the wire with the color you described on the plug on the back of the gauge cluster. i did that for my tach and it works perfect
also you can switch around the spark plug wires. the 2.3 had 8 plugs because the half on the intake side fire on the exhaust stroke for emisions. if you switch around the wires on the 1st coil closest to the grill you can get both plugs fireing in the cylinder at the same time.
also take out or deactivate ur EGR valve it does nothing but add hot exhaust gasses to the engine...AFTER the mass air flow sensor wich is a big no no as well
@badkins510 the coil for the driver side of the motor fires its plugs on the exhaust stroke. the firing order for a 2.3 is 1324 so while cylinder 1 is on the combustion stroke, cylinder 4 is on the exhaust stroke. this means cylinder 1 is firing and so is 4. so move the #4 wire for the driver side to the #1 on the driver side and put 1 on 4. do the same for 2 and 3. i did this to my ranger and the extra low end kick is incredible. hope this helps you too.
@mitch9521 Yep! thats my dads. I wish he would get it going. It just needs the clutch and brake master cylinders cleaned out due to it sitting for 10+ years. He's hopped it up and its really nice! I drove it and it makes my truck feel like a turd! haha
hey you can take a gauge cluster out of an explorer years 93-99 and it will fit in your truck and the tach will work immediately without work on it you may need to change out the spedom to make the milage match but there are videos and forums on how to i did it for my 96 ranger
You can put 19lb fuel injectors(yellow top) in it to replace the 14lb ones. They can be found from almost any ford FI v8. They work good when you have upgraded the intake and exhaust. I have them on my 94 ranger.
@mrawesome14b buy a free flow exhaust and get a new air filter. i bought a flowmaster exhast for about $85 and a stock air filter for like $8. They have cheaper exhausts, i just went with a flowmaster cuz they sound really sick!
wait how much hp did the valve caps give you?
