This guy Czesław Niemen ( Tcheslav Neemen ) is a legend in Polish rock. He was a musical and vocal virtuoso in the 60's and 70's mostly. He is not alive anymore but is fondly remembered by all Poles who were young at that time. If you bothered to get a translation of Niemens "Dreaming of Warsaw" (Sen o Warszawie), you would know that the lyrics of this song is tottaly on a different subject than Janis Joplin songs "Piece of my heart".

Niemen song is about his love to his town, poetic praise, local patriotism. Joplin song is about love (between men and women) gone bad...

As to the music & sound of the two songs, they come from same era, plus you tend to compair everything to American music, it's called subjectivity.

I suggested that he may of been ripping off "Piece of my heart" by ERMA FRANKLIN not because the Americans are better then the Polish but because the Americans invented Rock n Roll // Rhythm n Blues & were singing it first.

Niemen obviously enjoyed American music & was without doubt Influenced by it.

Rock, R&B, Jazz and Hip Hop might indeed be an American domain, but it does not mean that all good things in pop music have been or are created exlusivelly in US, or "it must be copied from American music"...

The fact that Americans have started something, does not mean that Europeans, Asians etc can imporve it or make it better. Yes, the Niemen song is in a Hippy rock tune, I am sure NIemen heard Joplin, but I do not believe he copied it. I would say his song is better then Joplin's.

Unless someone who is american knows me well, he/she is usually assuming the worst or underestimating me, based solely on the fact that I'm polish. I've met many including well educated people, who ridiculed everything Polish..
