  • what about bio-fuel (ethanol) like brazil has. its half the price of gas for the consumer and we dont pay for the money to go to the middle east instead employing our own citizens to grow/harvest/convert...sensible?

[this coming from an unemployed (but actively searching) u.s. resident concerned for his future]

  • Instead of change the way we live, we just keep our addiction to energy- energy that is mostly from a non-renewable resource....

  • I miss San Francisco.

  • We still need oil for other things just not as fuel for our cars.

  • What AlJazeeraEnglish "forgot" to tell you that Better Place is a Israeli start-up, so if you hate Israel, as TV & Iran told you to, you might want stay clear of these French/Israeli Nissan humming fuckers on wheels & continue dependence on Saudi oil (which in turn finances Wahhabiism (bad terrorist guys) infeltration of cities near you

  • Those long charging cables are unimaginable. A flat box recharger station on the floor of parking space with socket cover for rain and flood will be much better. How about a solar penal roof on top of each parking space? Can strong coil magnets on all major freeways for recharging vehicles while they pass through?

  • @Blockygraphics Hydroelectric is in and everywhere it can be built. The next thing will be excess wind power electricity to pump water uphill as power storage.

  • Electric cars are the answer. It's very easy to charge a car with your own solar panels and have no fuel cost, or pay very little for electricity.

  • lol.. where does the electricity come from??? FOSSIL FUELS!!!! very hard to break that cycle...

  • @midgetman433 Interesting! I thought that northern Ca used a lot of hydroelectric power. SF is getting a 500 MW solar plant.

I do apologize if my information is inferior, out of date and or politically motivated.

  • @TRUMPHENT yes.. but the rest of the country is powered by coal and nuclear power plants.. and applying this on a wide scale doesn't look realistic to me... plus i dont like the idea of "charging" up my car.. rather just fill it up with fuel.. i dont believe electric cars are the future.. hydrogen fuel cell powered cars are.. they run on hydrogen which is renewable and and the only byproduct is water vapor.. seems a bit unrealistic but you should look into it..

  • Its awesome how the bay area in general is way ahead of every body else.

I use to live in SJ, Silicon Valley FTW!!!!!

  • Well, anyhow, it's a good start.

  • VIVA CALIFORNIA - thaz what I say coming from WEST COAST!! esp. BAY AREA.

  • We already had electric cars and people loved them that had them back in the late nineties. But they were all rounded up for some B.S. reason.

  • @Instrumentally oil companies boycotted them

  • @peppeddu The same thing is going to happen with the Cooper MineE, made by BMW. They were up front with it though, they lease them out for 1 year, then they'll get them back and evaluate the program(we hope)

  • @Instrumentally they had to figure out how to rape the public with the battery fees first

  • @Instrumentally

We had them in the 80s as well. Once again, the disappeared.

Guess what? Oil companies are the largest corporations in history....you would be a fool to think they had nothing to do with it. Sick fools, keeping the economy AND technological advances behind 20-30 years so they can make money on oil and charging ridiculous prices to the good citizens of the world.

    Shame on them.

  • They NEED to keep these comment sections open, I almost stopped watching AJE because I am a huge advocate of free-speech and minimal censorship. Open discussion and viewer feedback are some of the pillars on which youtube is based.

  • america has no money to build such a system. we are moving toward rail system. train is the most efficient mod of transport.

  • @KhmerD0g for long distances yes, but in the early 1900's newyork city had electric car charging stations on every street.

  • aljazeeraenglish does not believe in open discussion...

  • @vdubs4life1964

Trolls do believe in spewing racist language all over the place unfortunately. "AJE does not believe in open discussion". Riz Khan and The Listening Post are two shows on AJE that are all about it.

If people would stop being hateful dickwads, perhaps they will open the comment sections. Plus you can use the AJE chat on livestation which is moderated. So there!

    :)

  • @micahgee I dont like to throw the baby out with the bath water... Plus, there is nothing you or anyone else on youtube can say that will offend me.. The fact that people get offended by words is absolutely insane imho.. They are just words..

    Peace.

  • @vdubs4life1964 They used to have their videos available for discussion until the amount of mainly anti-semitic (not that I condole Israel's policies) and racist comments overwhelmed any real discussion anyway.. flame elsewhere..wah

  • @vdubs4life1964 It does but you know how YouTube is with the crazy ediots who like to hate on everybody.

  • @ArabianKnight1201 But in the end, they are just words... Anyway we have a comment rating system in place.. Stupid and immature eventually get voted down so far that you are not able to see them..

But its all cool... I cant make anyone change their mind.. I'm just pushing forward and asking questions as I go.

    Peace

  • This means nothing until we switch to renewable and/or clean energy.

Electric cars don't work if your powering them with coal and oil...

  • @6663000

Getting the electic cars is an incremental step, you are right. But its better than nothing.

  • @micahgee

It IS better than nothing, but I would say that right now most of the electric car market is trend environmentalists who have them as a status symbol, in an attempt to be viewed as compassionate.

  • @6663000 shhh, stop using your logic and just go with the flow

  • good initiative.
