  • Hey cold steel, can you give us a video of you guys trying to cut this bokken with one of your swords?

  • @kimanyv these bokken are impact resistant, not cut-resistant. They would be damaged

  • thats right dude use it like a bat. lol

  • Lynn Thompson should write a book or memoir. At the very least post a list of books that influenced him the most. That would be great.

  • Wow.....My friend has these and we fight with no saftey gear, but I never knew these were so dangerous. I have the gladius swords and they're twice as powerful then the Bokken, so those must be REALLY dangerous. I was fighting with them (Gladius sword) and I hit someone's hand with meduim strength, and it was hurting for about 4 weeks. Does anybody know where to get some training gloves? Those would be nice.

  • @Super0jetFromLU ouch! I really recommend wearing safety gear when sparring with these! It depends on how you fight/train but we use a mixture of Hockey and FMA (Filipino Martial Arts) gear

  • Can you leave the tsuba off, if your used to a one-piece bokken, without messing up the mechanics?

  • @JohannVF Yes, you can leave the Tsuba off

  • Am I the only person who find that more white people are obsessional over marshal arts than Asians?

  • @yazmanofsteel Depends. When it comes to thing such as weapons, its much easier to practice these arts in America where our weapon laws are much looser. Almost anyone can get ahold of a katana in america if they wanted one, which is why such things are so popular here. Not because we are 'white'.

  • OMG!!!

  • They Should make a training Bo staff or training Tonfas or a compound bow something like that.

  • the guy who break stuff in this annoys me...he could at least use good technique...it's not all about brute strength and power

  • @metallica2X4 they make knives and swords that are unbreakable and super sharp so they have to push the weapon to the breaking point or it doesnt break

  • @metallica2X4 I think those tests are more about testing the resilience of the bokken.

  • I think this will do perfectly. A person is always stronger with two hands when using a sword. I'll go easy on them and use one.

  • I got one of these today for Christmas IT'S AWESOME! :D

  • The other day I was walking down a dark alley when I was attacked by a ruthless gang of cans, watermelons, and wood pallets; luckily I had my Cold Steel Bokken at the ready...

  • hmm I don't understand....

This thing should be named " Tekken" since it is made of steel.

I mean Bokken means "Wooden sword"

Calling it "cold steel bokken" doesn't make sense to me. I'm kinda confused.

  • @1207daone It's not made of steel, it's made of plastic (sort of). Cold Steel is the name of the company who produce these. What's 'plastic sword' in Japanese? :)

  • and so they said those swords are safe :P

  • song name ???

  • batle with out honor or humanity

  • katana slices through this, watch SBG test.

  • @jord505 a katana could slice through a traditional wooden bokken too :)

  • @rich1051414 what im saying is they say its 'cut resistant'

  • @jord505 i guess it 'tried' to resist the cut :)

  • bokken means wooden sword in japanese, so there can not be "cold steel wooden sword"

  • @ReMaKF That's the brand name..

  • and with that one handed stroke hundres of pretentious sword experts were offended. cold steel aghh yeah.

  • @maxgunn555 Well It is a wakazashi. If you look closely you can see that the higher hand is gripping the blade.

  • why have polypropylene when you can have a hand carved wooden bokken from japan its self

  • @yesimfromengland Because in terms of durability the polypropylene would likely never have to be replaced with full contact sparring. A hard wood bokken won't last a tenth as long.

  • I thought the "bok" in bokken is supposed to mean "wood"

  • I am no expert on martial arts, but this doesnt seem to have any real representation of any kind of sword fight to me, its just two grown men wearing funny suits hitting sticks together and making noise.

  • @Phrix0s precisely movie sword fighting has nothing to do with actual sword fight . this is what traditional japanese sword fighting and clothing actually looks like . duhhh

  • Comment removed

  • These are the real power ranger samurais'

  • Yeh but who spars with a real blade?

  • @dudearlo i have a katana (not wooden) with a "training edge" on it so i would say people who have progressed from using the bokken.

  • @yesimfromengland i know the difference from a katana to wakizashi to ninjato and bokken alike

  • SwordBuyersGuide proved that this bokken is fairly crappy and is easily sliced in half with another blade.

  • @HairofSteel555 Paul did a nice review indeed. But why put a bokken agains a real blade anyway? Bokken are used for training, kata and even sword tricks , not...fighting against swords! Just because it can be cut with a blade doesn't make it "fairly crappy".

  • wanna practice karate in the garage?

    lets goo

  • no offense but I'm ok with my shotgun

  • my bokken acually looks like a sword it has the round thingy, the weaving on the handle

  • white guy says HAI WHA DA

  • I see an angry white kid throwing a tantrum...

  • @AmeKurou carbonken I say

  • @racto98- the O Bokken is a longer slightly more rigid version, ment too match with the O Katanna warrior series

  • I've actually seen a cold steel bokken be split in half going up against a katana and a traditional bokken only having a few cuts on it

  • @capcomfan2010

When exactly are you going to go up against a guy with a katana using this training sword? Against cuts, a regular wood bokken lasts longer(I used my CS bokken to smash a glass bottle, there are nasty gashes on it now). But if you were to use something to smash for blunt force trauma, I'd rather use this CS bokken. I've had this particular CS bokken for about 9 months now and is as good as new. My previous wood ones lasted me 2 months approximately under regular sparring use.

  • @aznricecannon well you wouldn't unless you were trying to test the durability

  • i bought a set of these and we love them.traditional hard wood has a nice feel but these will last forever.and that little bit of flex takes out the shock so its nice on the hands when you have those long battles.

  • i heard they have 2 versions of this bokken one's made of higher quality then the other and cost 20 bucks more think its called Bokken O so witch one is this

  • I love watching White people fantasize about being Asian...It's awesome

  • @larukulunaseas : It's even funnier when Asian fantasize about being the superior European Knight.

  • Comment removed

  • @selfmadeboys88 lol k

  • @larukulunaseas -facepalms-

  • @larukulunaseas it's funny watching humans fantasize about being humans from different regions . . . . It's awesome. Fixed

  • @larukulunaseas It's funny because it is in every anime :)

  • @larukulunaseas

So is an Asian person who wears a business suit, drives an automobile, works on the internet, watches television at night, plays golf or tennis a couple times a month, etc. fantasizing about being a white person? you can appreciate, adopt, and utilize parts of other cultures without fantasy or wishing you were something else

  • @larukulunaseas im white and I approve

  • Can i has 2 for free so me and my friend can has sword battles plz.... lol

  • Great for martial arts practice and katas. Virtually unbreakable. But cut resistant? Real katana slice through it like butter. Invaluable training tool, and I still want one, but again: this bokken cannot be used against real swords. Calling it cut resistant is misleading, so I thought I'd clear that up.

  • @UrbanMusashi

you should know that there has been a guy who could fight against katanas with bokkens, in fact also other sharp metal weapons. kinda bit of irony saying this to the person who is using the name of Musashi

  • @mdt141 I am aware of this. Sword Buyers Guide did a durability test with a wooden bokken, and the cold steel bokken. The wooden bokken can resist a real blade (and yes, I know of Musashi's final great victory against Kojiro using a large suburito he carved from an oar). However, this Cold Steel bokken was sliced like a hot knife through butter. So obviously, you didn't understand my comment fully. Hope this clears things up.

  • fuck a pocket knife or one of those expandable baton for protection, all I need is a pair of kali sticks or a bokken

  • The Pallet Cutting test is one that i like a lot, you guys need to add it to your sword tests, they can more accurately show how sharp and useful your swords actually are, Love it, it should be a mandatory video segment on all medium to long slashing weapon classes and your blunt weapons

  • also I found these to be lighter then my wooden boken and they tend to get bent after a while and take some straightening.

    In summery,

They last forever compared to wood, but don't provide the same ridged feeling as they tend to flex more. I prefer a good wooden boken, but if you want something for light/med contact that will last more or less forever, then this is a good buy. Especially now that they only cost like $30, mine was about $60 when it was new. Also they have a larger variety now.

  • I've got one of these and I have to say its not bad. It's lasted, I donno exactly, about 4 years and isn't showing too much wear. I admit I've been fairly gentle to it, and I can confirm that HITTING A CINDER BLOCK WILL MESS UP THIS SWORD. I know this from experience. With my wooden ones I used to put on a demo where I break a bunch of tile, cinder blocks and boards. When I went to practice this with the Cold Steel one I took a big chunk of rubber off of the blade.

  • im getting a cold steel bokken!!!!! that is my weapon of choice!!!!

  • 3:21 o_____o

  • that dude was looking like if i dont make my master look good i could get fired so i midas well take this ass kicking lol plus the master failed at 1:46 with dismembering the hands lol

  • that dude was looking like if i dont make my master look good i could get fired so i midas well take this ass kicking lol

  • It is correctly called Bokuto. But the term Bokken is more popular. And Oak is good. I've made a dozen from oak, but it dosent hold up as well as Hickory in the long run

  • I thought it was called a bokuto more often...

  • the guy who keeps getting killed during the demonstration was on deadliest warrior as william wallace lol

  • Holy shit this thing is beast!

  • Comment removed

  • WOW.. A lot of comments. And most of them silly. I've used one of these. And they are very tough, no doubt. I make hickory Bokken, so I am certainly bias but I don't prefer these. Not that they don't function, obviously they do. But this is for junior students. I toy before your ready to commit to a more serious training weapon. I like the Cold Steel products. Quality, no doubt. But pass on this thing

  • @ReiMonCoH Hickory? i made one out of north american white oak. it dented an aluminum baseball bat.

  • where can you buy these things?

  • i have one. it does scratch but i havent been able to break it. i dont like the scratched look so i just spray paint over it. =) good as new.

  • Ow God ! ! ! even their boken destroys staff

  • look at that fuckin scratch!

  • steel fuck

  • DIE WATERMELON DIE!!!!!!!!

  • It's not a bokken (木剣 "wooden sword") if you make it out of steel >_>.

  • @gaxxag buts is made of polyproblane so its rubber/plastic... o.o

  • @gaxxag lol, the brand name is cold steel, who would really make a practise sword out of real steel -.- (It's actually made out of a some sort of plastic)

  • @gaxxag It's not made out of steel...

  • @gaxxag

You know, Cold Steel is the name of the company that manufactures this bokken. :P

Although you are correct, it's not a true "wooden sword" because it's made from polypropylene.

  • @gaxxag These swords are not made out of steel, they are made out of very durable plastic. The company that makes them is called Cold Steel because they also make real knives and swords, but these particular broken are made of heaviest grade polypropylene (plastic). I actually own 4 of them and they are very good for practicing with before switching to live steel.

  • I think the only way to break this is melt it in a furnace. It chips up with sparring use but other than that its almost indestructable.

  • ils ont l'habit, larme mais pas la technique. un samourail ne tremble pas apres un coup

  • White Samurai Funny Time!

Way to honor the Great Martial Tradition of the East by smashing those pallets.

My last resort weapon on choice? Running.

A watermelon will never be able to catch up.

  • Conen O'brian?

  • So Cold Steel does exist. What"s more interesting is that they make stuff like bokken. I should take Tosh.0 more serious.

  • Prefer the Brooklyn Smaher or Crusher.

  • wayyyyy too wobbly... not recommended.

  • I like wood bokken better, i think the cold steel on is good for abusing(now mine is all messed up)

  • urm that bokken should have snapped by now, thay guy is huge

  • fuck ya now i can practice without killing my sparing partner

  • I also love beating things up with sticks awesome vid

  • These bokken are fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. I've been collecting the lot (katana, wakizashi, longsword, bastard sword, and dagger) and so far the only weakness that I have found is that in storage the black elastics used to secure the removable crossguards dry out eventually and crack. The hold is still solid even without them, and a bit of good glue solves it permanently anyways.

Only mod I had to do was rub the tips on some carpet to round them for sparring safety against thrusts.

  • Got both, this Bokken and some classic wooden bokkens. I think a wooden bokken is closer to a katana than this one, because the impact is harder...

But for sparring and fast training, this one is awesome.

  • Gotta get back >>> back to the past Samurai Jack

  • 1:50 - левый чувак остался без пальцев ))))

  • Ég er tröll.

  • What exactly is the point of the man in the end segment using the bokken in a totally non-sword manner? Really, what the heck?! Maybe he should get a pipe and be a thug.

  • @lewissacer

You're a troll, aren't you? All the people bitching about proper kata/form/manner/whatever just piss me off. HE WAS SHOWING HOW DURABLE IT IS! You had fencing show at the beginning, later he shows that it can withstand beating stuff with it with brute force, don't you get it? D U R A B I L I T Y test! God damnit, think before posting.

  • I'm sorry, no, no. That pallet at the end there - I don't know where you get that shit from, but there is no way in fucking hell those things are gunna bust up a pallet like that. I used to chop those fuckers up with a nice shiny AXE, for firewood and i'm telling you those ARE NOT REAL PALLETS. I'm a fairly big dude and had issues using a fuckin MAUL to do it.

  • @theninjaswerehere True yes... But the Cold Steel bokken is impact resistant but are weak to actual cuts. Wooden bokkens will brake at impacts, and against a katana, but its more resistant to cuts than Cold Steel bokkens. Still i would prefer the Cold Steel... Doubt il ever need my bokken to be cut resistant

  • Smasher guy will beat you to death then eat you for breakfast.

  • it is a good boken, yet unlike most wooden bokens this is easy to cut in half with a real sword, but then again how many people are going to use a boken against a real sword lol

  • yeah nice. how they start our all good and traditional demonstration, then they go and redneck it up

  • @theninjaswerehere i was being serious

  • @theninjaswerehere that is a fact, read it in wiki, the most reliable source of information on the internet

  • that is freaking awesome! where can i buy one?

  • Because what I want from my bokken is to smash stuff up!

  • so im prety sure that when you draw your sword bokken or actual katana the blade should be facing up. did not see the other guy do that in the kata demo. and i prefer the wooden hand made bokken to this bendy ass thing

  • song name ?

  • The big dude has no technique at all while smashing away on the big wooden platform... You should buy a baseball bat if you want to smash away. Bokkens are to be used by experienced martial artists.

  • @VaanTractor when they are smashing away at things they are just showing they cannot break, as they said at the start

  • @VaanTractor its just a demonstration to show that they can

  • anyone remember the luggage commercials where gorillas bang away on them? well, who let this ape have a plastic katana!!??

  • it's not more cut resistant than a wooden bokken

  • what is that sword style? i am seriously impressed

  • 45 47 he thinks hes badass

  • @sesmry so is a bat :P and i ment long o, and yes you do pronounce the second k look up to pronounce romaji, it helps whenever yiur at a sushi restruant you can pronounce everyhting correctly :P

  • @Asdfghjkl27able That's odd coz when I was in Japan training under a Japanese 10th dan who trains in the Butokuden he pronounced it Bo-ken.

  • I hope I get my O Bokken today. :D

  • * sry got cut off...when you can just use a bat? As far as practicing, yes, use this, but as a weapon?

  • @Asdfghjkl27able Miyamoto Musashi the greatest sordsman in Japanese history used a boken as his primary weapon for years. It was certainly an effecting killing tool.

  • Pronounced bo-k-ken with a short o. In japanese-englosh pronunciation double letters get their own syllable. A more litteral spelling would be bokuken. And also, why pay 50 bucks or watever for this as a weapon when yiu c

  • @Asdfghjkl27able .....and it is bo as in wood and ken as in sword. You don't pronounce the second k.

  • how heavy is it ?

  • @shittyfuck It's a bit heavier than a wooden bokken, but not by much. I prefer using a bokuto as it is a lot heavier.

  • They make them with tsubas (hilts) now.

  • Ah!

    Now i know how they(The Japanese ppl)trained on opening doors...use a bokken!

  • cute twirls, faggot.

  • well, that "fight" couldn't be any better rehearsed

  • i can't use those damn things...I need a sword with a hilt.

  • hell, if it gives more fear than a katana

  • lovely bokken with strong material

  • Very impressive demonstration. I just have one question about it. As you have seen on the tests they were mostly testing it on Blunt trauma striking it against flat objects. If you remember in the intro they said that this product was cut resistant. Unless the video that we're watching left out the ending I would have to say that the forgot some vital information in regards to what they are trying to back up. However, that aside this is indeed a worthy tool. ^_^ Still I would love to cut it.

  • @probableIMPOSSIBLITY am pretty sure this can take a hit from an actual katana without being cut.

gotta hand it to these guys, they make some awesome weapons

  • how come its alwasy a white guy ...i want to see an original a japanese or somethin else ..

  • This looks cool, I want one. I noticed there were a few scenes where it seems they added the sound of a metal sword, I wonder why that was done?

  • wow, he's good ....

  • With bokken like that, who needs a sword?

  • Holy cow, I've broken 2 of my bokken sparring, I need this bad.

  • @TheTrueHappy

This may be of interest to you.

    watch?v=CUhDpQxN-1U

  • @D313370r Thanks for that, that was pretty helpful.

So they are better for training, but if I go against a real katana, should use my old wooden one lol.

  • I need one of these!

  • were the noises really necessary

  • You shoold produce a saya for it....

  • is a solid piece of polypropylene?; es una pieza solida de polipropileno?

  • Cool song ripoff.

  • i wonder if Luke is a Bushido or Kendo instructor. it doesn't matter he is good.

  • Love how after the kata demonstration the cold steel dudes just come in and destroy shit with their baseball bat swings.

  • @elldazzy

Just shows how good it is even with ineffective usage.

  • Well, I've got two Bo-ken and I'm always being careful not to damage the Bo-ken, so this might be a pretty useful Bo-ken to get...

But I don't have any real Bo-ken training, unfortunately, so I don't really know if this might be worth it...

Anyone knows how to harden the wood of a Bo-ken?

  • What is the difference between the CS Bokken and the CS O Bokken, besides the length? There is a significant difference in weight (17.7 oz versus 28.6 oz)? Is the item shown in the video the standard katana Bokken? Thanks!
