this is just stupid good looking - these are the cleanest lines I've ever seen - just awsome - trading in the wife but keeping the house cause I have to have a place to build it!
I work a mixed schedule of on/off days, with decent amounts of time that I hobby with. Looking to build the GTM 2 this summer/fall/winter- what do you find the hardest part of the build?
I followed your build for a while and finally put my order in a few weeks ago. My son has a Z06 that he wrecked last year which is going to give up it's parts for the build. We start next week removing the parts for the build. After we get it on the road the next step will be a visit to Hennessy to talk to them about a twin turbo setup. Then again the LS7 will probably put out enough power, thats my son's call. Either way I look forward to the project with my son.
@ryanathan2 Dead stand still. Last cancer check up showed it had returned. I am almost finished with my radiation treatments but I just don't have the energy to do anything. I was told I was lucky and they caught it early and it should be back under control. Looks like we'll be back on it in the middle of the summer. I've got to get an air conditioner in the shop. Anyway we did get all the parts off the vette we need and we're ready to start assembly.
@HeatcoUSA If you dont mind me asking, how much did it cost to tune the engine to 1,000 horsepower and to upgrade the transmission to handle that power?
California Motor Sports GT3 transaxle will handle it when ordered with specific upgrades. A good engine is $10-17k, good blower setup is $10k, the rest is up to the builder i guess.
No, I'm not jealous at all, are you? If you would get your head out of your ass, you would realize that I'm complimenting the GTM.
It makes a supercar type vehicle available to everyday people, such as myself, I absolutely love it. Go ahead, read my comment again. You MIGHT understand this time, kiddo.
I don't know, maybe "AWESOME CAR FOR THE PRICE" doesn't convey the idea enough? Christ oh mighty, if you're going to attempt to label someone as jealous, make sure they're NOT COMPLIMENTING.
easy there. This car can be built for $40,000 to $140,000+. The sky is really the limit. With a base LS1 even, the weight-to-horsepower ratio is amazing. We just wanted the extreme in performance.
i absolutely love the airscoop you have on the roof. But i know the original Factory Five GTM kit doesn't come with that. How did you incorporate the scoop into the roof? did you have to fabricate it yourself?
if you could see this car next to a regular FFR GTM, you'd be amazed at how many custom body mods were done. Thunder Valley Customs in White, GA did the paint and body work. We supplied the carbon fiber air scoop up top, but they molded it into the body. We found the FFR kit off square which causes some tire gap issues. Thunder Valley cut the front in several pieces and fabricated it back together. The underhood looks as good as the outside as well.
@HeatcoUSA Mt friend is finishing his GTM up and he reported his kit was way out as well, his fiberglass guy said it was the worst kit he's ever seen, ton's of work going into that car to make it right before it is painted. Not very well braced either from what he said. You's guys car looks amazing, I'm hoping his will have a similar spoiler as I think they look the best. Whats the engine/compressor combo you guys are using? He used LS2 408ci with singe turbo, I cant wait to ride in it!
oh yeah, Thunder Valley Customs in White, GA had to cut the whole front into about 5 pieces to build it square w/ the chassis. Thanks for the compliments. Good luck to you and your friend on the project. We used an SVO sleeved LS1 to make 427 cubic inches and an F1R Procharger. The stuff we have here on youtube is now totally obsolete as we found the ducting and intercoolers were not effective in our original form. The engine bay will look totally different real soon.
@HeatcoUSA yeah his plumbing for that Turbo and trying to find a muffler and incorporate that in that tiny space was really hard for him as well, he ended up running the exhaust under the car and not out the sides of the plate on the back, He also had his guy change the scoops on the side and got rid of the small windows behind the door windows and made them into scoops that cool and oil cooler and something else, I cant remember. Whats an address I can send some pics to? Love to compare notes.
we did the same thing on the exhaust and the ducting behind the doors. We found that the door ducting didn't grab enough air for dual intercoolers. We've gone to a pusher fan single intercooler design now. i'll send you my email via inbox. I can link you to our Flickr page at that point as well.
@probuiltlakecity That's exactly what people don't understand when they boldly say one can be had on the road for 30k. Fit and finish takes A LOT of work, especially with the GTM, which is admittedly an affordable kit. An affordable KIT, doesn't necessarily make an affordable CAR, however.
and if you're building one for big power...the transaxle will cost you what the GTM kit cost. You just have to decide up front if you're doing the junked corvette scavenge and transferring over to the kit OR are you doing a fully custom no junk parts build.
@HeatcoUSA Yep, but in my opinion there's a point where the GTM doesn't really need more power, and that's pretty-much 500 Hp. Also, the junked Corvette route is most in-keeping with the GTM as a 'within reach' proposition. At 50k - 65k it's an excellent substitute for a used Z06 Corvette, but beyond that it no longer retains the same affordability-to-fun ratio - just like the ZR1 Vette. For me, fun is firmly linked to affordability; if money's no option, may as well go out an buy a badge/brand.
I agree with everything you have said. This has been an ongoing corporate project. We've met guys that built the entire thing in their garages with a wrecked donor vette and the smile on their faces tell the story.
@HeatcoUSA EXACTLY.... the feeling is priceless, and not understood by the guy with deep pockets and a one o'clock appointment at the nearest Lambo dealership.
@HeatcoUSA As someone who used to have old hot rods and customs, I guess I like to retain the concept/ethos of hot-rodding, even if the GTM presents a far more technically accomplished/modern package.
I agree, the GTM is darn near perfect. Only thing I seriously dislike is the front end, it is way too long for a mid-engine car.
Personally, I would take a good 6 and a half inches off of the front of the body, and essentially transfer the whole body up a good three inches. The GTM has horrible weight distribution, 42/58, but, I guess you get what you pay for, and it's an awesome car for the price.
a tad over $40k. it wouldn't hook up on the Nitto Invos on a raw untweaked tune with misfire. Now that the tune is solid, cold start is good, we're addressing some intercooling reconfiguration, so no aggressive driving lately. It should hit the dyno in the next week or so for initial testing post tuning.
@HeatcoUSA Nah, its way too long, looks like the overhang of a Testarossa but longer and that cars front overhang was ridiculous.
Its not the 80's anymore.
I Photo shoped some pics of how it should be and it looks fucking awesome, lower line from where hood and windshield might and shorter front end with less overhang.
