Schnauzers are the best. Slater is gorgeous. I bet he is so happy he found such a good home They all have their funny traits. I have a boy and girl. My Girl, Lexey (also a rescue) instead of eating her treats will run around woofing with it her mouth and goes nuts with just the mention of a walk. LOVE THEM.

Mine doesn't spin, but she bounces and hops up a couple of times. She still gets excited when I ask her if she wants to go outside. I like keeping the ears uncropped as well. I think cropping is only if you plan on AKC showing.
im glad my dogs ears arent clipped as well, i have an all white schnauzer, very rare and uncommon...i dont want his ears clipped aswell..i dont want to cause owen any unnecessary pain. floppy ears are adorable!! they have character!!
the reason why it is rare and uncommon is because the white is a gene that is trying to be bred out of the dog. only backyard breeders breed white schnauzers.

Slater looks lovely - and very lively. Good for you for not cutting his ears. Here in UK ear cropping is banned (as is tail docking now) because it is done purely for the look of the dog, not for health reasons (surely they are more likely to get ear infections if they don't have an ear flap?).

Yes, I like his uncropped ears, too. So does my cat, and he had a couple bloody ears after their last encounter. Then slater got in a fight with a bulldog the other day and had some chomp marks on his back I'm having to keep an eye on. He's a tough little bugger and I love him to death, he just doesn't realize he is little.
Wow. Someone posted a video of their sweet dog to show the world and people just have to be negative. The dog does not look overweight, and cropping or not cropping their ears is a personal decision. Watch the damn video and enjoy a healthy and very loved animal playing and having fun and let it be.
Still, I don't believe in cropping more than is necessary and that applies to Schnauzer ears. Infections are often down to sheer bad luck - a less than hygienic park, dirty yard, etc.
Ear infections - mine are unclipped and my three year old mini schnauz just had one. The scratching and pawing at the ear region caused the infection to spread to the neck (where he'd scratched the skin raw to get at the deep ear itch). He couldn't sleep or lie down because his neck was rubbed raw.
The symptoms are not always obvious, so you have to catch it early to make sure your dog doesn't suffer!
Slater's not overfed. He's a perfect 16lbs of fire-breathing schnauzer and does not know what table food is. He's always had an incredibly tiny neck that makes his body look bigger. When we got him, his ribs were showing, and we had to beef him up a bit.
dont listen to chevalier. i have a mini schnauzer and hes a lot bigger than slater. kudos to you for taking him in. maybe chevalier should go to the pound and see for himself that an overfed dog is way better than an underfed dog...sheesh some people!

Slater got out a couple nights ago and took off chasing a chocolate lab from the neighborhood. It was really bad weather out and he was gone in the snow for 2 hours. When he came back his legs were all frozen up with snow-pack, don't know how he made it back since he could barely walk. We thought we had lost him, but a cool bath fixed him up and he slept like a baby after his adventure...
I just got my miniature Schnauzer 2 weeks ago, he´s not a pure breed thoug he sure looks like it 0.o his mother was a Daschund/Terrier Mix and his father a Pure bread minature Schnauzer. but about the ears you have to go to a vet or something like that to make them stand up in the air all pointy like (cropped?) ?
You don't HAVE to, though alot of people like them cropped. It is, however, very very painful for the dog, and my Miniature Schnauzer's ears aren't cropped. They also look better floppy anyway.
my dogs are cropped. she NEVER once cried, never slowed down, never flenched. She looks MUCH better now (witch is why I spent $300 on a dog to begin with) and regardless of what pther people say he ears dont smell anymore.
Oh! Let me tell you guys something my schanuzer has been doing! It's soo adorable. His doctor gave him a xmas present..but I needed to see what it was and couldn't wait untill xmas so I opened it..and the doctor gave him little steak snacks so I opened it and gave my baby a few..and puted it back on the box. And now he sits in front of the tree and stares at the box the whole day..and when I am there he sits straight and gives me his paw(like hi5..is't cute!) so that I would give him some of it.

All of them do, unless they have been cropped. It is so sad how people crop schnauzer's ears. It is painful for them, and I prefer them un-cropped! That is how my mini schnauzer's ears are. They are huge and floppy!

I have two Mini Schnauzers:
Salt/Pepper coat, female-Dafny, cut tail un cropped ears.
Black, male-Domino, cut tail un croped ears.
We also have a multy colored, male German Shepherd/Aquita-Nick
