Because I take pictures just about every day and happened to be down at Frankford Jct to catch the Miss America Special from Philadelphia to Atlantic City, I believe it turned out to be the last time they ran the special to the pageant.
The Fast mail # 12-13 at least when I worked there, went from Bos -Was and stopped at all major statins to load and unload. This added about an extra 2 hours to the run. The train left Was at about 2 Am and didn't get to Bos untill 12:30. Depending on the day of the week, the consit would be different. It would usually have 1 Amfleet coach and 1 Amfleet Cafe, and would carry passengers. It was the Night freak train.
Amtrak's previous president, David Gunn, ordered that the last of the E60s be retired. Though attractive looking giants, they were restricted to 90mph and had collectively racked up millions of miles. Two supposedly survive, one in Amtrak colors and the other in New Jersey Transit. I'm glad I got to ride behind them before the speed restrictions were set. Wonderful experience crusing at 100mph+!
9-10-01, the day before 9-11, and my 8th birthday.

everyone asks, why 9/11? The question here is why are all these shots coincedently taken on the day before 9/11?

I think its ironic they call this the fast mail. I usually think corridor trains roll faster than that!

That curve has a 60MPH limit that's why.
