WRONG, it was called the Million Dollar Quartet. Dude....., Jerry, Carl, Elvis, and Cash, with help from ole Roy Orbison, Google it. Be correct when you state somethng. Be precise. Dont be stuck on stupid......
First time I saw Carl Perkins was 1975 as part of the Johnny Cash Show. I love all those old SUN records. My dad had them all. I remember finding his 45's when I was a kid. My collection was stolen some years ago. But I had a couple original Elvis SUN 45's, Mystery Train, I Forgot To Remember, and a couple others as well as Carl's, Movies Mag, Blue Suede Shoes, And Jerry Lee's, Whole Lotta Shakin', It'll Be Me, geeze I had so many SUN 45's. Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash. I had a nice collection.
That is because while on tour with Johnny Cash in 68, he promised God that if he allowed the bottle to land into the river, he would never pick up another bottle of liquor.
This was a sad time in Carl's life. He was staying so drunk during the late 70s and early 80s he was still wearing his dirty "Elvis" suit from the '76 season in this late 1979 video. Jerry Lee offered to buy him a new suit but Carl wouldn't have it.
@kjetin99 Carl was a brilliant guitarist and song writer. Although he didn't show off his playing, I've seen him sit down and play and you wouldn't believe it was the same guy. Before Carl's version of Blue Suede Shoes was released he was in a car wreck. While he was in the hospital Elvis asked if he could record the song. Being friends Carl said absolutely. Elvis' version hit first and was a smash hit.....
.....Even tho Carl's was recorded first, Elvis' was released first on RCA. I think Carl's career may have taken a different road had Elvis not recorded that song. Which by the way was written on a plane by Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash and Carl while traveling together wrote the song together, Johnny's original idea. Not many people are aware of that fact it's rarely if ever mentioned. Those guys from SUN records changed the face of music. It seems like a made up story. Rock n Roll born in Memphis.
@Brutus2 Johnny was actually on a few of the numbers but he left. You can hear him leaving during the session. I'll tell ya', either way when you think of the talent that recorded at that little studio it seems like a fictional tale. The ironic thing is just out of the four, Cash, Lewis, Perkins, and Presley. Jerry Lee was the most self destructive out of the four and ended up being the one who lived the longest and still sounds great to this day!
@Brutus2 Yes Quartet is Four...... Jerry, Carl, Elvis, and Cash.... yet then only time they ever ever sung together was for fun at Sun studio's and a pic was taken. Forever the nickname stuck. That is all.

What a different world we might enjoy if only the Perkins brothers had not crashed their car enroute to the Ed Sullivan show.

Carl Perkins did not look drunk when I saw him at the Royal Court, Liverpool in the eighties. A night and performance to remember.
