I would love if scientists discovered something that GW could use to make models, nothing made out of oil, something made out of a replenishable resource...
CHEAPER is the word im looking for, I love 40k but prices drove me through the roof before the price increases.
@superstrok99 you are right, almost all good hobbies are expensive. You need at least $250 to start in a hobby. Collectable card games, RC stuff, miniature games, airsoft, video games, even scale model painting if you want to use airbrush.
@superstrok99 Yup. I agree. I had the choice between a PS3 or an imperial guard army with a chimera and battleforce plus the codex. Warhammer is far better value, and I'm not staring at a screen for hours on end. Instead I'm doing something productive.
@jboweruk It usually takes a couple more hours. One time with my friend, we had a huge planetstrike army with our own amount of points that we both agreed on, and the battle went on for two days. I lost :( But it was brilliant fun!! :D
i love planet strike especaily when im on deffence with my space marines i use all 6 of my vindacators or ill use all six of my whirl winds ive never losed since
@deathspartan209 Gotta go with that, I'm going into London on Sat to pick up a new RoB board with luck, and when we get back we're planning a DE vs Tyranid planet strike using no less than 5 bastions, a FoR, and a Skyshield platform. Nice, 7 objectives.... Oops, make that 9, FoR is 3 on it's own.
I played my first planetstrike game today...and I must say it is awesome. I was attacker (Black Legion, main part of army were terminators and raptors) vs my friend (Biel-tan Craftworld)....it was immense...bloody and I really like change objectives for craters if it gets hit from something big :)
Well I admit I loose today, but I dont care...game was awesome indepently on result.

Why won't they make this game digital? You buy the basic game and get samples of basic units. Then you buy new units and download them to your computer. See battlefield heroes, great system. Then you can mod, paint (not like in the DoW games but more intricate) and upgrade in-game. Easy to find opponents online and awsome scenarios can be user-made. This could be an very kool alternative for people, and hopefully cheaper.
Yes but that takes away a huge part of the game, painting and modelling. I would hate it if the whole thing went digital, id wouldnt be able to be proud of a model if i only had to clikc a few buttons to get it to perfect quality. And you lose the quality of gaming, i mean having GW shops would be pointless. Also, people find ways to hack most computer games, all it would take is one or two cheats to get out and the whole thing would suck.
nah. That would be a waste of resources. They should just make the rule book available for a digital purchase at a lower cost. I would buy this book if it was $15 not for $25
Basically what Mackley said. Also, the fact that it is a miniature game is one of the things that seperates us social nerds from the anti-social computer nerds.
i think it would be cool if there was a scenario for this expansion where the necrons need to protect a tomb from imperials, or the tyranids attack an imperial world with only raveners, oh the horror
lol the only thing i can think is a spine colony from starcraft...we all know the Zerg were made out of the Nids so it would look like a nid structure just fine :P
why did someone give this a thumbs down? It's true. Blizzard wanted to make a strategy game back in the 80's about Warhammer but couldn't due to legal issues. So they came up with Warcraft and have been borrowing ideas from GW ever since. There's a video about it on GameTrailers (which I can't link to ).
I really hope that GW staff read these message boards. Seriously, I hope that GW either realises how insane their pricing is or they simply learn the hard way, ie. when they're facing bankruptcy. I mean back in the day when 10 space marines were $35 the hobby was expensive enough, but now its just getting stupid. And sure enough each new expansion requires you to buy more figures, more terrain, more of everything :-( How about focusing on developing the great game that WoTR is instead?
You do realize that you don't need to buy new stuff for PlanetStrike (besides the rulebook), right? You can just use your existing army. The terrain isn't even necessary. Hell, if you really need the terrain, just make your own.
Having all 3 Apocalypse books, I only need to get the city fight book, and this new book, and who knows where my Gaming experience will go from here! As an Ork and a Chaos player, this looks like the book for me (well what can I say, I'm drawn in by what in my opinion is a neat little teaser!) :D
I play IG too and dont worry we have a load of coo new things like the guard can use the mass assualt stratagem where all units get deep strike but must take a dangerous terrain test and much more. Have faith brother. Imperius Dominatus!
That's interesting, because when RT first came out and GW put out models, you could score an apothecary blister for a couple of bucks, and some assault marines for $10. Back then you could have an amazing game with 2 squads of marines an HQ, and maybe a Rhino. You know, a 500 -1000 pt game meant you were serious about it, and you could keep it around $110.
Now GW is breeding us to buy 2k+, up to 5k for Apocalypse games. About $700-$1000 on an army (just models) to play this game. It's asinine
never heard anything of inflation? it's not just GW that has gone up with its prices. and the standart tournament size of the grand tournament is 1,5k points.
I know that it is an expensive hobby, but totally worth it because of ultra-insane awesomeness. ( who says you can't have amazing games with 1000 points? actually I prefer small multiplayer gmaes with 3-5 players 1000 points each, they truly are a lot of fun! )
Well of course there is inflation, but GW is pricing themselves out of the market.
I mean, look at Reaper Minis. The general consensus is that they produce better quality miniatures, and they only cost $3-$5, $15 for the bigger ones.
Then you have GW selling mid quality plastic kits for $50, lol. Yes, I know supply/demand, A friend of mine started casting his own necrons. He's spent about $100 on resin stuff and he's made up to 3000 points in Necrons. and Ctan. :P
If inflation would truly be as high as GW price increases we would be screwed. GW increases their prices *way* more than inflation and way more and more often than other companies.
They do create nice minis but ask way too much for themselves and create lousy games to boot to play in. Too bad they have killed their best games(since those games generate less money) :-(
And of course latest bright idea: 10 PLASTIC models for 25£. WTF? Plastic that is more expensive than their METAL models? And they have guts to claim armies will be cheaper as they turn into plastics...
They increase prices because they can. As long as people buy their overpriced stuff why not? More £££ for them.
The problem is that GW is the only retailer of these products (Besides ForgeWorld, but that's even more expensive.) They can charge whatever the hell they want for this stuff.....
Well. Plenty of other manufacturers if you aren't overstrict about the models. Especially warhammer fantasy battle alternatives are plenty abound for cheaper and just as good if not even better quality at times out there.
They are making one... Not even in the alpha stages though. It's being done by Vigil Studios. I'm sure they'll put more effort into it once they finish DarkSiders.
I jizzed in my pants when I saw the three vindicators lined up as a gate. Looks good, might see more use than friggin apocalypse (competitive players don't touch apoc with a 40 foot pole)
Warhammer (40K here) is a tabletop wargame. Which means you pick an army and field it at a variable size against your opponents, who has an army of the same size.
The to-hit, to-wound works fairly simillar to D&D, but this is on a more massive scale. Warbands are a possibility, but it comes down to more then that. Men, Armour and now Air support all work together to either just eradicate your oppponent, or claim objectives on the table.
No air support seen in these games so far, that was just the original rumou of what planet strike was; An introduction to fliers in our standered games.
Unless you come across the Tau, and Tau players in defense knows to take Broadsides and at least one Hammerhead. They pretty much nurtalize and and all vehicles that come into play with their further range and somewhat 'overkill' like firepower so that your Guardsmen get mopped up by Battlesuits, Kroot/Kroothounds and Fire Warriors
Is this siege warfare basically? I'd love that, one person engages from the outside, the other defends to the last. Exactly what i'd expect 40k to deal with.
Nice, i always wanted to play combined Gothic/Epic/40k campaigns. I got the same feelings about Apocalypse - it's completly unnesesary - it's just trying to fit epic into 40k scale.
No ones forcing you to field 18 tanks. NTHink abotu the points cost, the tectical benifit of other units over taking just 18 tanks. I myself have just over 20 russ's, but it doesnt mean im going to field them all in this expansion.
Mind my shoddy keyboard skills, i should probably proof read ever so often. Yes, i have 2 of them sitting in one nice big box along with 3 baneblades 2 stormlords and 2 stormblades, bunch of kasrkin and 3 bassy;s, and im still plaining on more. Hopefully with this release ill be able to field my armoured company in a small match (minus the banes)
I'm on my last legs with games workshop. Cities of Death, Apocalypse, Apocalypse Reloaded and no.. Planetstrike. Even though the rumour has been round for over a year that planetstrike was happening... Seriously, if things don't change your going to see a lot more people dropping games-workshop alltogether.
I see your point. Out here though, most people have cut back or entirely dropped out of GW stuff. It's mostly the players who like to see support for the army lists and models. There's been a lot of frustration with supplements instead of updates.
Also, with the dropping of the North American GTs and Canadian Hall of Heroes... Not to say Hall of Heroes was even properly managed last year...
What about warhammer fantasy? It seems to be doing fine without a bucketload of supplements.
Id never say most, infact id say most have been playign gamesworkshop games still. Some in your comunity may have stopped, but look out on all the forums out there, theres no "most" at all dropping out. Games workshop is going for a book that covers more gamers then just 1 codex would. ITs a smart move by gamesworkshop, which will increase their sales in this ecenomic downturn, to keep then floating. They have to do something to keep themselves going so htey can give us what we love.
The fantasy system is more robust, apocalypse scale battles work fine wiht it so there's no need for supplements. 40k has skirmish battles in mind so it struggles to handle bigger fights.
Imo it makes for better games than standard and I´m normally not the type to like much terrain, considering I play Guard.
The rules are pretty simple, the terrain makes for good tactical possibillities and the special doctrines are awesome. There´s nothing like blowing up that huge building in the enemies deployment zone you just know he will place a couple important units in turn 1 with the demo charge stratagem.
Think of 40k in relation to something like wow. In wow you walk around and do quests, you do pvp, you do dungeons. Now take away those three things, and youve got a just a world where you walk around and kill things. Much like 40k; you have your standered games. Now the quests are like an addon to make the game more enjoyable. Same as CoD. No one forces you to do them, but it spices the game play.
40k, as just 40k would become the same boring repetatve game after awhile. CoD, Apoc and now Planet strike, help to shake up your gameplay, help you take a new approach, and really help you enjoyy the game in so many different ways to help you fully realise what you can do with what we have.
I'm not sure about the new terrain pieces. Do they have as many options for assembly as the CoD kits? Can you link em' together with the tiles from the Cod kits to make a huge Imperial fortress?
...and The Lost and the Damned needs it's own Codex!!!
are they actually making a plastic thunderhawk, or is that just wishfull thinking?? may i also ask for plastic titans to then, seen as there turning all forgeworld models into plastic versions lol. this does look awsome though. attack and deffend is always the best. Zulu in the 41st millenium ;)
So the forgeworld stuff isn't plastic then? I had a feeling, just got some Sisters of Battle Rhino doors in from them today and they seemed different.
Would be nice if they trimmed their pieces tho lol.
aye, there made of resin. gives you more detail than the plastic, but you do literally get it fresh from the mould, as you discovered lol. the models are just solid, which is why there so expensive, things like the guard tanks are just solid blocks of resin.
I tells us we get new plastic bunkers and barricades as well as the options to play special missions with new objectives and force organisation charts.
Meh. It evens out. No more doctrines and morale bubbles made me weep. Not to mention what they did to the Stormtroopers. Yeah, AP3 is great, but 16 points? That guy´s more expensive than a bloody Eldar! Hell, he´s more expensive than a Tac-Marine.
Decrease prices, you fat shits.

Well I understand your concern, I too
like to modify my units, but nothing says
that it would be too easy to mod or paint in the game.
My main argument is that it would be an
alternative way of participating and getting
involved in the 40k universe.
Imagine official tournaments of various
kinds with people from all over the world.
All without the hassle of actually taking a long trip with your models. Prizes in the form of uniqe units or parts.

Warhammer 40k. It´s a tabletop strategy game, quite unlike a pen&paper RPG like D&D.
Planetstrike is a sublemental with rules for games depicting planetary assualt landings.
There is a Pen&Paper RPG playing in the 40k-Universe, though, Dark Heresy.

Any other Guard player already itching at having 6 heavy support choices as defender?
Wow, people better pack some extra anti-tank weaponry when attacking Guard in a Planetstrike game.
And yeah, Offense for me is going to be human wave or Air Assault. Wohoo, Plastic Valkyrie!

You fooled me with Apocalypse GW. not again.

Don't sell us Guardsmen players short on the offence. Russ', Valks etc will be great for hitting a defender hard. Andcan't wait for Planetstrike!
masterstephis 2 years ago
Unless you come across the Tau, and Tau players in defense knows to take Broadsides and at least one Hammerhead. They pretty much nurtalize and and all vehicles that come into play with their further range and somewhat 'overkill' like firepower so that your Guardsmen get mopped up by Battlesuits, Kroot/Kroothounds and Fire Warriors
ThePitofSidLord 2 years ago
as a guard player I think I'll defend most of the time^^

crazyvagrantproduct 2 years ago
Is this siege warfare basically? I'd love that, one person engages from the outside, the other defends to the last. Exactly what i'd expect 40k to deal with.

Well, GW have got one hell of a challenge on their hands.
Frankly, GW have botched every expansion since Cityfight (not "Cities of Death", Cityfight).
Cities of Death was just clunky and horribly abusive - Horde-assault armies had a field day.
Apocalypse is a complete joke.
I've been playing Planetary Assault scenarios since 3rd Ed. by using Gothic+Epic and Gothic+40K. I know how they should work, as do many others.
Let's hope GW know as well.
MallocandBethor 2 years ago
Nice, i always wanted to play combined Gothic/Epic/40k campaigns. I got the same feelings about Apocalypse - it's completly unnesesary - it's just trying to fit epic into 40k scale.

did anyone see the pic of the crisis suit army flying in
that is awesome

It's from Apocalypse, awesome piece of art. Has Hammerheads blasting at big tyranid titans to the left and firewarriors that are about to get mauled.

6 Guard heavies... that's what, eighteen tanks?
Ooooh, Can't wait for this one!

"6 Guard heavies... that's what, eighteen tanks? "
Sigh, and I though one Emperor´s Fist Box was enough... Well, I guess I can get myself some additional Griffons or Bassis now.
Magni56 2 years ago
No ones forcing you to field 18 tanks. NTHink abotu the points cost, the tectical benifit of other units over taking just 18 tanks. I myself have just over 20 russ's, but it doesnt mean im going to field them all in this expansion.
Zaemyster 2 years ago
I was making fun with the 18 tanks. ;)
Though I DO have a full Emperor´s Fist tank company standing around...
Magni56 2 years ago

I dont see anyone dropping gamesworkshop because they are giving us more?
Zaemyster 2 years ago
I see your point. Out here though, most people have cut back or entirely dropped out of GW stuff. It's mostly the players who like to see support for the army lists and models. There's been a lot of frustration with supplements instead of updates.
Also, with the dropping of the North American GTs and Canadian Hall of Heroes... Not to say Hall of Heroes was even properly managed last year...
What about warhammer fantasy? It seems to be doing fine without a bucketload of supplements.
ntfh 2 years ago
Id never say most, infact id say most have been playign gamesworkshop games still. Some in your comunity may have stopped, but look out on all the forums out there, theres no "most" at all dropping out. Games workshop is going for a book that covers more gamers then just 1 codex would. ITs a smart move by gamesworkshop, which will increase their sales in this ecenomic downturn, to keep then floating. They have to do something to keep themselves going so htey can give us what we love.
Zaemyster 2 years ago 2
The fantasy system is more robust, apocalypse scale battles work fine wiht it so there's no need for supplements. 40k has skirmish battles in mind so it struggles to handle bigger fights.
Zigster92 2 years ago
What do you have against Cities of Death?
Imo it makes for better games than standard and I´m normally not the type to like much terrain, considering I play Guard.
The rules are pretty simple, the terrain makes for good tactical possibillities and the special doctrines are awesome. There´s nothing like blowing up that huge building in the enemies deployment zone you just know he will place a couple important units in turn 1 with the demo charge stratagem.
Magni56 2 years ago
@ Magni, agreed.
Zaemyster 2 years ago
(continued from previest post)
40k, as just 40k would become the same boring repetatve game after awhile. CoD, Apoc and now Planet strike, help to shake up your gameplay, help you take a new approach, and really help you enjoyy the game in so many different ways to help you fully realise what you can do with what we have.
Zaemyster 2 years ago
I'm not sure about the new terrain pieces. Do they have as many options for assembly as the CoD kits? Can you link em' together with the tiles from the Cod kits to make a huge Imperial fortress?
...and The Lost and the Damned needs it's own Codex!!!
ogami72 2 years ago
You know you guys could get off your asses and make some new codexes instead of shit like this.

are they actually making a plastic thunderhawk, or is that just wishfull thinking?? may i also ask for plastic titans to then, seen as there turning all forgeworld models into plastic versions lol. this does look awsome though. attack and deffend is always the best. Zulu in the 41st millenium ;)
doogal184 2 years ago
So the forgeworld stuff isn't plastic then? I had a feeling, just got some Sisters of Battle Rhino doors in from them today and they seemed different.
Would be nice if they trimmed their pieces tho lol.
rba718 2 years ago
aye, there made of resin. gives you more detail than the plastic, but you do literally get it fresh from the mould, as you discovered lol. the models are just solid, which is why there so expensive, things like the guard tanks are just solid blocks of resin.

Dude, 6 heavies is like, devistating! Thats awesome if you are playing as guard!
Or even as Marines. 6 Vindicators would just tear the battlefield apart!
BlackTemplarFilms 2 years ago 3
Yep. I'm Eldar so I'll most likely take 2 Warwalker squadrons, 2 Wraithlords and 2 Fire Prisms in high points games. Complete Ownage.
For attacker, the only Compulsory choice is 1 HQ, and they can have up to 3 Elites. Defenders have normal FOC plus an extra 3 HS

Meh. It evens out. No more doctrines and morale bubbles made me weep. Not to mention what they did to the Stormtroopers. Yeah, AP3 is great, but 16 points? That guy´s more expensive than a bloody Eldar! Hell, he´s more expensive than a Tac-Marine.
