Wow...all these years...I had heard the word "sackbut" and I didn't know what it was...embarrassed to admit I thought it was something similar to a krummhorn. Haha. Never too late to learn something. Thank you.
@16mmDJ Goes to show that size doesn't matter... Seriously though, the effect of the narrow bell is just that the sound becomes sharper, less "fatty", but it detracts nothing from how "forceful" the sound can be.
As to how different from a modern instrument the playing is, I would say: not too much. A bit more difficult because you have to learn to move the slide a bit even when going from one harmonic to the next (say, D to G) in order to stay in tune.
Hahahaha! You just blew down a sackbut!

If you're going to play with a lute, you need to cut your volume down to allow the lute to be heard. Ensemble 101.

That music sounds like some kind of medieval jazz.

Quite a sound coming out of that tiny bell.
How different is playing a sackbut from playing a run of the mill tenor trombone?

I want one! It sounds so beautiful. I have my own small-bore tenor trombone, but I'm in love with pretty much anything related to trombones.
