We sort of do know what would happen if Ernie and Bert switched personalities--just watch early interactions between Kermit and Fozzie on "The Muppet Show".
Yeah, I don't remember this one at all... IMO it's a little too serious for the Ernie & Bert dynamic. I felt really sad when Ernie keeps saying, "Do I really act like that?" It's a little too meta... I think this particular sketch wasn't rerun very often on purpose.
I don't recall seeing this one as a kid, but boy is it cleaver. The Ernie and Bert sketches of today are mediocre by any standards, but they pale especially in comparison to the classics you and I grew up with.
Lol, those guys who say they´re gay are just jeaulous beause they aren´t smart enough to do a show like this. Do you tihnk the little children will be tihnking if they´re gay or not? and what if they are? What´s the problem?
I've NEVER seen this sketch in my entire life! Is this from season one or two? I'd say one because of the angle at which Bert's nose hangs from his face. Peace.
That music in the end sounds familiar. It must have been taken from the Grover and Kermit Weather Machine skit. Anyways, I'm never tired of watching these classic skits.
When my younger sister and I shared a room growing up, I used to think she was an annoying roommate. Then I would watch these two and think, "Well, it could be worse." 8-)
At least Ernie got the right idea! And I agree with the people discussing the annoying Bert & Ernie are Gay rumors. It's simply the way roommates act with each other, and some of their mannerisms are more childlike because the skits were designed for a kid's show. To tell the truth, they always reminded me of myself and my little brother or myself and my best friend.
Galaxyhigh73, I agree that it really sounds like "friggin' green one," which is what I heard the first few times as well. But I think he actually says "frizzy green one." Still, it's funny.
WHat kind of bugs me is not the thought they could be gay, it is the thought that two hetro guys can't live together WITHOUT being gay. Thatsjust as sexist as anyone berating them FOR being gay, and just as wrong.
Everyone forgets what came out the year before Sesame Street debuted- the film version of Neil Simon's The Odd Couple. Ernie and Bert are the kiddie version of Oscar and Felix.
CTW has denied constantly that Ernie and Bert are gay and these rumours are made up my losers and sick people who have their own sick fantasies about fucking puppets.
I am sick and tired of such stupid rumours. Jim Henson was a brilliant man.
HtotheB: It matters not that they're puppets. To fans and to their performers, they're just as real as you or I. However, it must be noted that Sesame Workshop--formerly The Children's Television Workshop--has consistantly noted that Bert & Ernie are not gay. They just live together as best friends and roomates & this is because the entire Street itself was originally based upon the stereotypical gritty New York landscape.
I thought they are cousins though and didn't even thought that much into why they even live together until I almost finish highschool and I heard this rumor. I just think hey it's normal they live together!
I see Bert as the data processor in a business working in a little cubicle all day while Ernie hangs out at the local pub playing pinball all day...then B comes home after a hard day at work, and has to deal with E's incessant chatter...and he's supporting his behind! lol
It was wonderful to see Ernie come to himself, but as much as I like Ernie, he did not learn a lesson he only learned for this episode which I wish was not the case. Overall, it was a wonderful episode to watch! I hope I was not harsh since I like both of them.
i loveeeeeee this beds and the moon there, this reminds me so much stuff with my sister :)i like their house and any time i see them eating i get hungry still..this is a hilarious one! aww
you know that is EXACTLY what they had in mind - to illustrate sibling relationships - the reason they are friends and not siblings though is to remove the parents from the dynamic so siblings could work things out with each other. E&B are GREAT!
Anyone noticed after ernie's through imagining being Bert you hear was sounds like somebody probably with the production crew saying cut or something?
Yep when I grew up in Tasmania in the 70's, Bert and Ernie were the classic Sesame Street Comedy Duo Skits, they were so funny though! We only used to had the 2 TV channels in Tassie to entertain us in those days and I could'nt hardly wait for Sesame Street to start at 8 O'clock in the morning on Channel 3 to watch those Bert and Ernie skits and I watch it again at 4.30PM in the afternoon! They were the BEST!! (Tassie) Queensland Down Under.
I love how Bert jumps out of bed and says "What? I'm up! I'm up!" He did the same thing in the skit where Ernie is "counting fire engines" and the fire engine noise woke Bert up.
These guys are classic best friends. They both annoy each other, but obviously like hanging out with one another. God, I still have friends that annoy the hell out of me, but what can you do? Ha ha.
Wow- this was a pretty interesting Bert and Ernie skit. Cool- and I very clearly remember the cartoon that was starting at the end of this- that one's a classic too! :-)
I don't know how Bert could tolerate this behavior. If I were Bert, I would want to take Ernie and shake him.
