Had an Irish Setter bitch when I was growing up. Got her in the 4th grade, still had her when I got married. Best dog I ever had. Funny, smart, loyal, but so gun-shy all you had to do was show her a shotgun and she'd completely melt down. She didn't like thunder or firecrackers either. Miss that old girl.
@MerryVee great dogs but fundamentally mad and very highly strung they will either be great gun dogs or a great pet we are on our third and wouldn't have any other breed i known how you miss yours
@MerryVee most sane dogs are gun-shy.. I never had a dog or met a dog that wasn't gun shy they seem to innately know without even hearing it go off that it is dangerous.
@LionGoddess1 Very not true, a lot of dogs who were bred for hunting (which is a large percentage of all dog breeds) are quite sane and get exited even at the sight of a gun. This is especialy if they had any hunting experience at all. Talk to anyone who has trained hunting dogs and they will say with most dogs getting them used to a gun is the least of their difficulties.
my dauchshound looks just like a irish setter.
