  • I paused @ 1:29 and said "HELL YEAH"!!!!

  • Anyone knows what the average price was for the regular motomag version back then?

  • Comment removed

  • @Flatzout7 just go to a bike shop they might help.

  • Dang ! This brings back memories,,

As a young cat in the early 80's, I busted my ass after school and on weekends as a paper boy and all my earnings went towards building a 77 motomag frame that I had found. Bought the redline v bars, gold double clamp mongoose stem, gold araya wheels, decals ,oakley grips, messinger seat , 3 piece crank and a bunch of other parts,, When my bike was stolen it broke my heart.

  • how much was it a the time and can you ride it?

  • The hardest step.... 0:24!!

  • I have a 1996 Mongoose super goose. Racing aluminum. its been powder coated and the frame hasn't been damaged, anybody interested C:?

  • 1975 Odyssey Director Forks?? or is it?

  • cool bikes but do you have decals for sale ?

  • ive never saw a copper one before dang!!!

  • What song is this by Nazareth?

  • @LOLUMADNUB The tune is called: "This Flight Tonight" Originally written by Joni Mitchell

  • yeah baby, oldschool bikes for ever! =D awesome work ;)

  • what a fantastic hobby restoring old bmx's .. i take my hat off to you! weldone

  • Great job!

  • anyone else notice there was no 3:39????

  • that copper one is an amasin colour

  • wow. no offense but lookin at those bikes i'm really glad i was born in the 1990's ! , even if good old times sounds ''cool''... how were those things even rideable..?

mongoose seems to be the first good bmx brand... ''good old times i guess'' but today it's just walmart crap that only redneck parents buy to their lil kids"

  • @bmxrdudee Mongoose was the first and best IMO bikes made back in the day.

  • @nikstiks i'm sure if mongoose would cut some pounds off their bikes and get the **** out of walmart they would have a really good bmx brand nowadays too! :o the bikes has changed since the good old times...

  • @bmxrdudee Yes Totally true!! Mongoose 2010, get your finger out!!

  • @bmxrdudee

Listen 90's dude....... This is 70's-80's BMX. Mongoose was a huge part of it then...Your comment makes me realize that you're nothing but a 90's idiot.

  • @ NWforager, Yes Citric Acid works better in my opinion and is much safer to work with. The fumes from OA are poisonous, Citric Acid fumes are not.

@Elcarlillos100 Chrome is different than Nickel, most of this stuff is Nickel but, it can look similar. Nickel and Chrome plating is an industrial process that must be done by a professional.

  • @drumsforpete and citric acid is used in some foods so you know its safe!!!!! and i love these bikes where do you get them? an do you have any ideas how to strip paint of of frames?

  • how to make the cromed color in a bike?

  • bringing back memories. Major bike porn right here.

I just got oxalic acid powder . Do you think citric works better ??

  • B.A.D!

  • Love it,

pre my era, but I remember seeing those bikes afterschool at local Bike Shop (Mike's Bikes) when I was like 7 or 8 in my crappy Raleigh.

  • i like the copper one that looks sick

  • How much would you sell one for?

  • @liverpooltia Yes, the design is the same. That motorcycle builder copied the design of the BMX mag wheels (Motomags) for some custom motorcycles he made. The Motomags first came out in 1974 and were designed by Skip Hess. They are the very first mag wheels ever made for bicycle motocross use.

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry I meant to say, "You cannot "true" a Motomag like a regular spoked wheel."

  • if the mags are running a little untrue can they be sorted to run straight??

  • i am jelous of your collection of bmxcycles

  • Very cool. Like the copper goose the best.

  • MONGOOSE!!!!! BULLET PROOF!

  • how did you get copper finish on the bike

  • @a1u1s1t1e1n That frame was copper plated by Chromemasters in Nashville, TN. They do a lot of stuff for OCC etc.

  • luckyy dude i got a 80s scrambler wit magss an its not ib that bad of condition i want a mongoose from the 80s really bad

  • rad. do u live in the uk? have a powerlite in need of tlc

  • cook bros bmx

  • I know a pioneer in this sport called Crazy Lacy and he still has his 1979 Mongoose with those type of mags.

  • Yep, I use citric acid too, man. Works charms. Oh, and siezed crank or handlebars? Just shoot some WD-40 or some White Lightning in it and let it sit for a couple of hours.

  • take a look at my page i had a Mongoos i raced and won every danm thing i rode in...

  • 20incholdschool

  • Damn dude those came out so nice. I'm restoring a 1983 Predator it's a nice bike too. I got it from my buddies dad he raced it when he was younger.

  • Im 39 years old now and christmas day 1978 was the best day ever. I got a nickel motomag mongoose. I rode that thing everyday for years. Back then 200.00 brought years of happieness. Today a 200,000 ferrari wouldnt even bring me the same joy. God i miss that bike.......and my youth.

  • @Bondbroker89 I'm 40 and I also got my red Mongoose in '78. I rode that everyday for years and years. During summer vacation I would leave the house at 10 a.m. and wouldn't come back until 9 p.m. All day riding around with my buddies. i did own a Ferrari 328...no big deal. If I had my choice, I'd take one week with my Mongoose and my buddies. Ride on!

  • @4JayeP Isnt it funny how we were all the same back then. I had woods at the end of my street that we all rode in. same thing here , up at 8am and id ride till 8pm. I cant tell you how much i miss those days. I loved that bike more than anything, in 1978 it was a very big deal to have a mongoose, they were 210.00 bucks back then. I almost had a heart attack xmas morning. i was jumping up and down like a nut. Those were some good days

  • @MountainAire1103 Dude, 'some good days'...that's putting it MILDLY. those days were a BLAST !!!! That was before insurance payments, mortgage, divorces, putting on weight (lol), growing bald (lol). It was COMPLETE freedom! We didn't have any money, but we didn't need any! Just give me my 'goose and get outta the way!!!

  • @4JayeP Nice buddy, that's saying something.

  • hi im sanding my bike. and every time i sand a part of it and leave it the next day it get little rusty. what should i do?

  • Any bare metal will oxidize rapidly. You need to protect it from the elements/oxygen by sealing it with primer, paint, plating or in the interim, some type of oil, wax or lubricant. Citric Acid Powder can usually be purchased in bulk at the lowest price from Ebay.

  • where can i buy citric acid?

  • Comment removed

  • cytric acid is it to remove old chrome or just to remove the rust??

  • it's used to remove rust only

  • thanks a lot mate!

  • wow!!! that video was the best!!!! brought back some serious memories!!! im going to buy a mongoose frame on ebay and build my son a bike!!! cant wait!!

  • i can sell you a restored one with generic parts with mag rims

  • Kindly sell me some of those clear grips?

  • that copper goose is outstanding. had the nickel plated one myself around 76-77

  • Nice one respect sir. Best wishes from the UK.

  • wat do you mix with acid powder and nice bikes

  • citric acid powder is mixed with regular water

  • Nothing says "old school" like ashtabula & messinger!

  • Very nice video. You must really love those mongoose. I totally appreciate your obsession. I have some obsessions of my own........what is the story on the Mongoose Redline? Is there a relationship between the two companies. I was supprised that someone has Hutch company alive again. I still have my hutch. What about the Redline Mongoose?

  • Wow well done !!

  • Dude.. where are the tires from?

  • wow :D

  • That was a great video. I have a 1981 "PK RIPPER" looptail mint. It has never been ridden at all. It is on my youtube channel! You adda go check it out. The nos decals that i bought on ebay were autographed by Scott Benthrup himself. If you don't now who he was. He was the inventor of bmx, and made SE racing bikes.

  • how can i get some citric acid powder

  • What memories!!!! god, I miss those days and those USA made bikes. thank you for posting.

  • i had the same redline i remember those spider rims were heavey as hell. had to change them to the blacl mags. loved that bike. man!!

  • that copper goose looks ace!

  • Fantastic! Nazereth AND old school BMX. I was a Redline & later Diamond Back rider but the Mongoose was a big fixture in my town in the late 70's-early 80's. Maybe next time you can post a few shots of the Mongoose, "mascot" logo - the one with the actual mongoose? I think the used those on the early 80's.

  • mmm, nice way to spend a break mahn :D

  • Cool stuff! Grew up in SoCal back in the day when BMX exploded! So long Sting-Ray, hello Redline, Webco, Mongoose, Cook Bros., etc.

Why did I get rid of my '76 Squareback? If I knew then what I know now!!! Oh well... Good times, though! Thanks for the memories.

  • Now thats old school!!! A bit before my time but very cool. Thanks for sharing.

  • Excellent job Pete. How about your drum work on the next video?

  • I Need to see more of your big twin! F'n bonkers!!

  • Mongoose heaven. Clouds of copper and fields of nickel with amber waves of candy apple red.

  • Good video and music
