My money is on that the tunnel originally either came out right underneath your house (which actually happened to me once... I can't remember if I laughed or screamed), or right next to where you actually entered the cave.

Oh man! That ending had me cracking up. You were lucky, though. An island in the middle of the ocean is better than JUST being in the middle of the ocean.

And I was wondering when you were going to come to your senses. Going deeper into a cave, feeling around in the dark is a great way of getting loot, but will never lead you out to the surface. Just as I was thinking, "Yeah, lava layer is good for diamonds, bad for escape," you said it yourself.

@NakaTeleeli Blocking doesn't actually "block", but rather defends. It halves the damage you take, so is only really useful if you're fighting skeletons and have impeccable timing, or maybe against creepers if you're not good at fighting them (half the damage instead of taking them head on).

If you load a new chunk while in a mineshaft, the result will always be more mineshaft. So if you explore you're actually making the mineshaft bigger.

I thought a good part of what you wanted to get from the abandoned mine shaft was the mine cart tracks, you seemed to have left nearly all of it behind and not even picked up a stack. Also good luck finding/getting home. This would be a superb time to show off making and using a compass.

I was expecting that you'd come out under the lava fall near where you started, leading to a slow-motion chase scene as you ran down the stairs with the lava following you. But, really, in your home (or similar nearby landmark) is not that unlikely, considering the fact that exploring underground doesn't take to take you very far in any particular direction.

Nice thing about tiny islands in the middle of the ocean: you don't need a ton of torches to illuminate practically everywhere that a monster could spawn and reach you. So Naka's presently pretty safe. (And he's got good renewable food and good short-term food.) Personally, I want to hear him say, in all seriousness, "I made my new tools out of diamond to conserve sticks."

Oh, wow. That's a really clever way of dealing with Cave spider spawners. I usually take out the top middle block of the wooden archway when approaching the spawner, because that's what they usually get stuck behind, and then they all drop right down on your head when you walk under it, but I'm not sure how well that'd work in combination of your blocking-off method, since my strategy is more-or-less to take out the cobwebs and just rush it.
