I just remember there being nothing scary or good in the horror movie genre in the early 90's, until Scream came along. It had a downright shocking and scary opening scene and the rest of the film didn't let up. It was also simultaneously satirizing the whole genre, while delivering some much needed thrills. The fact that it was a mystery just made it that much more entertaining.
I love Scream. I liked that the creators decided to make Scream 4 last year, after the past 10 years, they made the 4th sequel at the right time for Ghostfaces comeback. I liked the 4th one, it was decent and funny as the whole series. Sure, Ghostface isn't an immortal slasher like Michael, Freddy, or Jason. But someone always dresses like him for revenge or just get attention, the 4th one was a twist of who the killer was lol
i think a guy whit a mask you can buy in a store and has no powers can be more scary than jason voorehees because he can actually exists.He can be your neighbour,postman,best friend or boyfriend(Scream 1).
@MrSupersonic28 the remake was a mixture of the 3 :P first 30 mins of the remake was 1 and 2 than eventually he puts on the hockey mask. It doesn't completely ignore the first two movies :P

i like most of these cinemassacre reviews but he got a lot wrong here, Scream was in no way trying to put an end to slasher films, it was intended to breath new life in to it, and that it did, the self awarness hasn't been done any better and never will be, Scream is a great film that provides scares, humor, suspense, twist, turns and of course one of the scariest openings in film history, the sequels & many of the teen horrors that followed including IKWYDLS were all pretty fun too....

Scream showed that horror films can be clever, relevant, and suspenseful.
Scream was the first slasher series I watched and it truly did get me into the horror genre so I owe this movie a lot. But I didn't watch it until much later, since I was only 4 when the movie came out.

This movies great. My dad said he saw the first 2 in the cinema and in the next generations time scream 4 came out and thankfully I was old enough to see the movie.

i like his reviews but he did get some things wrong here, scream never tried to stop the genre, even til this day scream has one of the scariest openings ever which should have been talked about a little more but maybe he didn't want to give anything away as far as the movie itself goes was perfectly acted, smart, funny, scary and very suspensful, its my favorite next to Jaws and the original Halloween, & as far as I know what you did last summer goes, thats also a good fresh take on slashers.

I love that EVERYONE in Scream is so over the top, makes it hard to figure out who the killer is; where normally its the last person you'd suspect, this movie makes you suspect everyone.

Scream had a clever concept, I liked the opening, and the way it paid tribute to the classic slasher flicks was pretty cool, but I do agree that the movie is quite overrated. It was just a bit too silly to be taken seriously, most of the characters were annoying, and the satire wasn't as well executed as it could have been. Not a horrible movie, but from where I stand, New Nightmare did what Scream was trying to do much better.

i like his reviews but he did get some things wrong here, scream never tried to stop the genre, even til this day scream has one of the scariest openings ever which should have been talked about a little more but maybe he didn't want to give anything away as far as the movie itself goes was perfectly acted, smart, funny, scary and very suspensful, its my favorite next to Jaws and the original Halloween, & as far as I know what you did last summer goes, thats also a good fresh take on slashers.

@yummycupcake443 thats the whole point, first they are just watching the horror movies, but now they are pretty much living one. Scream is a satire, it kind of pokes fun at all the dumb horror movie cliches that we had to go through from the 70s and 80s horror movies. kinda like all the things that they shouldnt do they do. like have sex, drink and do drugs, look into closets, running up the stairs, say ill be right back. things like that. kinda defying the rules a bit actually lol

I love Scream.. It is one of my all time favorite horror/suspense/slasher movies.. The only problem that I have with it, is that it isnt as scary as it could be, ya know? :P

I love that EVERYONE in Scream is so over the top, makes it hard to figure out who the killer is; where normally its the last person you'd suspect, this movie makes you suspect everyone.

Scream had a clever concept, I liked the opening, and the way it paid tribute to the classic slasher flicks was pretty cool, but I do agree that the movie is quite overrated. It was just a bit too silly to be taken seriously, most of the characters were annoying, and the satire wasn't as well executed as it could have been. Not a horrible movie, but from where I stand, New Nightmare did what Scream was trying to do much better.

Another difference between the 80s killers and scream is that the killer in scream isn't a towering idiot. He knew how to scare his victims without even being on the screen.
