In my opinion I play both I find them both excellent games with different strengths. Swtor has a way more interesting and fun pvp mode but the pve in wow dominates. Wow is going downhill though blizzard needs to get their act together. Also casting/healing in swtor could be slightly better.
@BiggestTwoNoobs Let me break it down. At level 10 you get the choice to choose your AC(Advanced Class) There are 2 advanced classes for each class. The Sith Warrior can choose to be a Sith Juggernaut (Which is mostly a tank) or a Sith Marauder (Which is the best Dps for Sith warrior and yes Jugs can go DPS too but its pretty stupid to.)
After playing the beta I can definelty say that WoW does have some competition. Since the UI is similar to WoW it was pretty easy to jump right into, besides the few minor deifferences.

This game yeah got lots of ideas from wow but basically they got some of the goods from wow but they didn't take the shitty things wow had. And yes dude WoW is ripping off pokemon in the new xpac. You collect companions(pokemon) you can find them just like in pokemon, trade them just like in pokemon, battle them just like in pokemon, you even fight pet masters(gym leaders) just like pokemon. @EpicGuitarTv It's still not final, it is an idea, they can always scrap it just like the path of the titan in the previous expansion. Besides the expansion has loads more to offer then just collection companions to fight, which you could do since start of WoW and most mmorpg's. So don't be all sarcastic about it. The patch has still to be launched in december 2012. And when you say Star Wars in general, then you mean Warcraft in general which is as original as SW if not more.

@HTeast Well, I would do Assassin because you get a double bladed saber, and with Marauder I think the two sabers looks kinda loopy. But, both WArriors and Inquisitors can tank, and do DPS, but the Inquisitor can go down the healing route (sorcerer) and do that OR damage (with lightning, Assassin does his/hers with their saber). I'm gonna go with Sith Juggernaut because I love tanking and they get really awesome looking armor in my opinion.

@Shutpoem WASD movement makes you significantly less responsive in combat than mouse moving. In games where positioning and environment are important aspects to pvp combat, moving with WASD is like following lines in a pavement, as opposed to freely moving where you please over this pavement. Also, given that mmo-rpg play seems to focus on ability type gameplay (that is certain abilities when pressed do certain things), you need all your fingers free for keybindings, not movement.

All i can say is try it out you may like it not all mmo's are a grind fest, swtor is also story heavy so it may distract you from the grind and you may be intrested in a certain quest or all of them. As for people barking orders at you over vent perhaps you could create your own guild of friendly casual players not all people who play mmo's are assholes.

I hate getting top comment. No one ever reads anything else. Basically, what I've been attempting to say, is that the developers took a lazy approach to a futuristic shooting MMO. They could have added cover mechanics, a FPS feel, console fighter mechanics (block, parry, dodge, etc.) and other things to combat that would have simply made this game unique and better. Instead they copied what WoW, DAoC, and other games have done for past 20 years, unlike other MMOs (GW2). Its just disappointing.

So yes, companion missions is new, 1 NEW thing in a load of OLD stuff, I guess that makes it worth it. If its really well polished it'll do OK...

@DotSWE bindings take getting used to, jumping into a game you've had no experience with and playing for 5 minutes while being overwhelmed with about 15 abilities that you don't have time to read and experiment with will lead to clicking because developing the ability to memorize keystrokes is non-existent with so little hands-on time, the brain gets too overwhelmed and intimidated by what needs to be used when, you need at least a day, not 5 minutes at E3
I was really looking forward to this, but now that I see its just a WOW clone... Fuck it. I'll stick to Xbox, short badass games that dont make me look like a fag. I dont know why they cant come out with an MMO that doesnt look and play exactly the same as every other MMO.
Everyone posts: "How is it fair to kill someone in one lightsabre hit" The answer is the use of abilities and cover to make it into close combat range, none of which is present in this game, hence the stand and slash for 10 seconds. I had hi hopes for this game, but it looks like WoW/Rift/etc. mechanics with a Star Wars setting. As an avid gamer who loves the star wars background, this just won't cut it for me, I feel as if it will sting me as badly as episode 1...
@imatooltoo Right, but it doesn't serve any purpose, there's no cover (at least from what they show) and it appears most opponents only have ranged attacks. The point is, you don't HAVE to move, which makes the game boring as hell. At least in GW2 you have to dodge some of the bigger attacks, theres actual movement mechanics involved. As a futuristic shooter they could have taken it one step further, and included cover, but nope, boring as balls...
@imatooltoo Right, well against basic mobs there is no need to dodge regular attacks, but based on other gameplay footage, and what GW2 has stated, there will be opportunities to fight mobs with much higher levels then you but with dodgeable attacks, requiring location awareness rather than just skill rotation. This is in a fantasy game. Now your in the future, with guns everywhere, and theres no cover, you just take 30 lasgun shots to the chest, but its ok, because 18 lightsaber strikes=win

Rofl, I love when I get emails for responses to a comment I left a week ago. Lets just put it this way, the combat does not seem dynamic at all. Like all previous MMOs it just seems like you hit the right combination of buttons while standing still and clicking your next target to win. Guild Wars 2 is all I have to say, much more innovative then this, though I am still waiting for a futuristic FPS MMO, with combat mechanics, strong ranged firepower, and lethal close quarters combat.

@Shutpoem WASD movement makes you significantly less responsive in combat than mouse moving. In games where positioning and environment are important aspects to pvp combat, moving with WASD is like following lines in a pavement, as opposed to freely moving where you please over this pavement. Also, given that mmo-rpg play seems to focus on ability type gameplay (that is certain abilities when pressed do certain things), you need all your fingers free for keybindings, not movement.

@TabathaFerShiz If you don't like mmo's thats too bad there's nothing much i can say that'll change your mind. All i can say is try it out you may like it not all mmo's are a grind fest, swtor is also story heavy so it may distract you from the grind and you may be intrested in a certain quest or all of them. As for people barking orders at you over vent perhaps you could create your own guild of friendly casual players not all people who play mmo's are assholes.

I hate getting top comment. No one ever reads anything else. Basically, what I've been attempting to say, is that the developers took a lazy approach to a futuristic shooting MMO. They could have added cover mechanics, a FPS feel, console fighter mechanics (block, parry, dodge, etc.) and other things to combat that would have simply made this game unique and better. Instead they copied what WoW, DAoC, and other games have done for past 20 years, unlike other MMOs (GW2). Its just disappointing.

So yes, companion missions is new, 1 NEW thing in a load of OLD stuff, I guess that makes it worth it. If its really well polished it'll do OK...

And I think STO is a perfect example of a futuristic MMO, with a devout fanbase, that had the potential to be innovative, but fell short, much like I feel this one will. There is more in common between these 2 than WoW and this if you actually think about it. But it is the interwebs, thinking is optional...

@DotSWE bindings take getting used to, jumping into a game you've had no experience with and playing for 5 minutes while being overwhelmed with about 15 abilities that you don't have time to read and experiment with will lead to clicking because developing the ability to memorize keystrokes is non-existent with so little hands-on time, the brain gets too overwhelmed and intimidated by what needs to be used when, you need at least a day, not 5 minutes at E3

Everyone posts: "How is it fair to kill someone in one lightsabre hit" The answer is the use of abilities and cover to make it into close combat range, none of which is present in this game, hence the stand and slash for 10 seconds. I had hi hopes for this game, but it looks like WoW/Rift/etc. mechanics with a Star Wars setting. As an avid gamer who loves the star wars background, this just won't cut it for me, I feel as if it will sting me as badly as episode 1...

@imatooltoo Right, but it doesn't serve any purpose, there's no cover (at least from what they show) and it appears most opponents only have ranged attacks. The point is, you don't HAVE to move, which makes the game boring as hell. At least in GW2 you have to dodge some of the bigger attacks, theres actual movement mechanics involved. As a futuristic shooter they could have taken it one step further, and included cover, but nope, boring as balls...

@imatooltoo Right, well against basic mobs there is no need to dodge regular attacks, but based on other gameplay footage, and what GW2 has stated, there will be opportunities to fight mobs with much higher levels then you but with dodgeable attacks, requiring location awareness rather than just skill rotation. This is in a fantasy game. Now your in the future, with guns everywhere, and theres no cover, you just take 30 lasgun shots to the chest, but its ok, because 18 lightsaber strikes=win

Rofl, I love when I get emails for responses to a comment I left a week ago. Lets just put it this way, the combat does not seem dynamic at all. Like all previous MMOs it just seems like you hit the right combination of buttons while standing still and clicking your next target to win. Guild Wars 2 is all I have to say, much more innovative then this, though I am still waiting for a futuristic FPS MMO, with combat mechanics, strong ranged firepower, and lethal close quarters combat.
