How do you know there isn't thalide or something bad in the black tubs. I planted seedlings in them this year, but what about drainage? It can take years for cancer to come up, most of our neighbors have cancer, rural area.
@ILkaterlyn The tubs aren't above the Gardenrack where sun would get to them and bake them. You can also use perforated landscape fabric as a liner. Drainage is taken care of by drilling 9 holes in the bottom of each tub and then laying down an inch thick layer of pea gravel before filling with soil.
@ILkaterlyn The plastic in the tubs is low density polyethelene (LDPE) -- the same thing plastic food containers, plastic wrap, and juice and milk cartons are made from. According to Green Living, LDPE is safe and not known to leach any chemicals that are known to be carcinogens.
this is a great idea for older people who struggle, even those in wheelchairs could get involved. Thanks for posting this,i'm going to try this out at work.
Excellent idea. I moved into a new house in a newly built up area. Full of voles and moles. They ate all my veggies! I think raising the garden out of their reach seems like a good idea. I hope these little critters can't climb !
That's nice! That would be great for my mother in law. She's elderly, and can't really bend low and she misses gardening. ;) thanks for sharing!

do you worry about the toxic in the plastic ?
ortonmom 8 months ago
@ortonmom -- I don't. I've been gardening in them for 10 years and haven't had a problem. They can be lined with perforated landscape fabric as well.

EarthElla, the soil in the beds is about 10-12 inches and I've been able to plant tomatoes, carrots, radishes, and scallions with great success.
MasasWife, thanks so much for your kind words.
dkim68, it really is. It's about 15 feet by 15 feet and fits easily on balconies.

This is not a how to video. You could be a little more honest with your advertising.
