The first time I heard Joan Morrissey was on Thursday, March 28, 1974. I was stuck in the Blizzard of '74 and spent over 24 hours at the house of Garfield Fowlow in South Brook Halls Bay, NL. He played her album "Home Brew" on which this song appears. I have been a fan of hers ever since.
Tank you so much for posting this. Joan was a Newfoundland icon, especially to women in her day. An extremely gifted and multi-talented lady. Her tragic death is such a loss to Newfoundland culture.
A damperdog is a term that was used in the old days, also referred to as a touton. The tops of old kitchen woodstoves (ranges) would be shing and very clean. When your mother made homemade bread, the leftover dough would be flattened and tossed on top of the stove to toast and then flipped to toast on the other side. One would then pour molasses or corn syrup over it. A very tasty treat for the young ones. lol.
The quality is superb. Hope to see more by this artist. Maybe "CN Bus" and "Are You Diggin Them Dillon". Many thanks for your hard work.
